FIP SOUTHERN STAMPEDE 2008 LIVE REPORT

By Richard Trionfo on 6/13/2008 11:57 PM
Full Impact Pro Wrestling finished their first double shot of 2008 in Arcadia, Florida as they returned to the Turner Agri-Civic Center for their Southern Stampede 2008 show. In addition to the usual action that you would expect from FIP, some wrestling legends joined the show as Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine and Norman Smiley joined Scotty Too Hotty who appeared in Crystal River the night before.

Here are some stories coming out of Southern Stampede 2008:

The WORM comes to Arcadia

Despite Davey Richards’s best efforts, he was not able to prevent the WORM from making an appearance during his match with Scotty Too Hotty. Richards took out his frustration throughout the night on some of the wrestlers. Davey did get in a few solid kicks on Scotty, but Erick Stevens decided to return the favor from earlier in the show to give Davey a Doctor Bomb before Scotty hit the WORM on Richards.

Another Legend Joins Heartbreak Enterprises

After Baby Doll joined Heartbreak Enterprises in recent months, another legend of wrestling joined the group that vows to take over the company. Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine is the latest to join the group. Thanks to help from Sean and Phil Davis, Valentine was able to get the victory over Norman Smiley. Things were not completely smooth for Heartbreak Enterprises since Sean Davis fell victim to the Big Wiggle during the match.

Age of the Fall get some revenge on YRR

Despite not winning the FIP Tag Team Titles on Friday night in Crystal River, Jimmy Jacobs teamed with Delirious to defeat Sal Rinauro and Jason Blade, while Tyler Black defeated Kenny King. This gives the Age of the Fall a definite advantage going into their two-out-of-three falls match against YRR for the FIP Tag Team Titles on July 19th at the National Guard Armory in Crystal River.

Here are the results from the show:

Before the first match starts, Phil Davis of Heartbreak Enterprises comes out and frisks Jonathan Gold. Sean Davis gets on the mic and he tells the fans of Arcadia to show respect for Baby Doll and then he introduces the Heartbreak Assassin Damien Wayne. Sean also demands that the people of Arcadia show some respect to Damien.

Match Number One: Erick Stevens defeats Dingo, Jon Davis of the Dark City Fight Club, and Damien Wayne of Heartbreak Enterprises in a Fatal Four Way Match

Stevens and Davis start things off but all four men get involved in the early part of the match. While it is every man for himself, it appears that Dingo and Stevens are working together while Davis and Wayne are showing some semblance of teamwork. After a gourdbuster driver to Dingo by Wayne, Stevens breaks up Wayne’s attempt to go up top to finish off Dingo. Stevens works over Wayne with the choo choo and a shoulder tackle from the second turnbuckle. Davis and Wayne hit a superplex on Dingo. Dingo goes up top and tries for a moonsault but he lands on someone’s knees. Stevens hits a clothesline followed by the Doctor Bomb on Dingo for the three count.

After the match, Davey Richards attacks Erick Stevens. Richards tells Erick that Roderick Strong says hello. Richards then gets on the mic and he says that he is going to kick the crap out of Scotty Too Hotty. He calls the fans sick sons of bs for thinking that Scotty will hit the worm on him.

Match Number Two: Chasyn Rance of the YRR defeats Chris Jones

Jones hits a few high impact maneuvers at the start of the match but Rance is able to take control of the match after an enzuigiri. After Portia Perez interferes in the match, Rance is able to get the three count with a Chasyn Driver.

After the match, Perez and Mimi get in the ring and they slap Jones while Rance watches. Rain and Leva from the Age of the Fall come out and Rain challenges them to a tag match. Before the match starts, Daizee Haze comes out and she says that she is the guest referee for this match.

Match Number Three: Rain and Leva of the Age of the Fall defeat Portia Perez and Mimi of the YRR with Guest Referee Daizee Haze

Rain and Leva have the early advantage a they work over Perez. Mimi is able to distract Leva by pulling her hair and that gives Perez the opportunity to get in some offense. Rain gets involved and the momentum returns to the women of the Age of the Fall. Kenny King comes out to interfere but Tyler Black pulls King off the apron and they fight to the back. All four women are in the ring and Rain gets the three count on Mimi.

Match Number Four: Johnny Deboll versus Kyle O’Reilly goes to a No Contest

Both men exchange wrist locks and kicks but O’Reilly hits a dragon screw leg whip and he tries for the Cloverleaf. Davey Richards comes out and he attacks both men and the referee calls for the bell. Richards puts Deboll in the cloverleaf before throwing him out of the ring.

Davey gets on the mic and he says that it is obvious that the fans cannot get enough of him. He was not done before and he gets what he wants. Davey says that he will break Scotty Too Hotty’s neck.

Kenny King comes out and he says that Tyler Black promised that the Age of the Fall would win the FIP Tag Titles, but the YRR still has the titles. He tells Black that he will face him in a one-on-one match tonight.

Match Number Five: Tyler Black of the Age of the Fall defeats Kenny King of the YRR

Tyler works over King’s arm and when Kenny gets to the ropes, he is pulled back into the ring. Black continues to work on King’s arm and wear down the member of the YRR. The action goes to the floor where Black continues to have things under control. When they return to the ring, King gains the advantage and he starts to work on Black’s back. After missing a springboard move, Black hits a series of high impact moves and gets a near fall. King hits a Blue Thunder Driver, but he can only get a two count. Black gets the victory with a Phoenix Splash.

Heartbreak Enterprises comes out and Sean Davis gets on the mic. He says that they are not going to let the earlier match involving Damien Wayne get them down. They have signed one of the biggest stars in wrestling to an exclusive contract. That man is the master of the figure four leg lock, Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine.

Match Number Six: Greg Valentine with Heartbreak Enterprises defeats Norman Smiley

Valentine works on the leg and then Heartbreak Enterprises attack Smiley on the apron. Valentine puts Smiley in the figure four leg lock but Smiley is able to get out of the hold. Baby Doll distracts the referee, but Norman is able to put Sean Davis in position for the Big Wiggle. Phil gives Smiley a drop toe hold followed by a splash from Sean and Valentine is able to get the three count.

It was time for intermission.

Match Number Seven: Jimmy Jacobs versus Jason Blade goes to a No Contest

Jacobs has the early advantage but Blade fights back and hits a spear but Jacobs turns it into End Time. Sal Rinauro comes out and the referee calls for the bell.

Rinauro and Blade attack Jacobs but Delirious comes out and hits clotheslines on Rinauro and Blade. We have a tag match.

Match Number Seven . . . Part Two: Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious defeat Sal Rinauro and Jason Blade of the YRR

The YRR, being the established team work better than Delirious and Jacobs as a team and they work over Delirious. Blade and Rinauro use the referee’s focus on Jacobs to double team Delirious. Rinauro continues to work over Delirious but Delirious is able to fight off the YRR. Unfortunately, when he gets to his corner, Jacobs is not there. Rinauro is unable to hit a Bonzai Drop after successfully hitting a few. Jacobs tags in and works over Rinauro but cannot get him to tap to End Time. Blade and Rinauro appear to have thing under control, but Delirious fights back and he sends Rinauro into Blade’s groinal area with a drop toe hold. Delirious takes care of Rinauro as Jacobs makes Blade tap to End Time.

Match Number Eight: Austin Aries defeats Jerry Lynn

Lynn has the advantage while both men engage in some mat wrestling. Aries hits a drop kick after rolling through on a sunset flip attempt by Lynn and the momentum of the match shifts to Aries. The action moves outside the ring and Lynn hits a somersault dive onto Aries from the apron. The action returns to the ring and Lynn tries for the cradle piledriver but Aries blocks it. Aries hits a brainbuster followed by the Last Chancery and Lynn taps out.

After the match, Lynn and Aries shake hands.

Match Number Nine: Scotty Too Hotty defeats Davey Richards

Richards tries to intimidate Scotty, but it does not work and Scotty gets under Richards’s skin by getting the crowd into the match. Scotty sets for a super kick but Richards holds on to the ropes and he goes to the floor to regroup. Richards is able to get in a few kicks on Scotty but he misses a diving head butt. Richards connects with a low blow and puts Scotty in the Cloverleaf but Erick Stevens comes out and he hits a German suplex and Doctor Bomb on Richards. Scotty asks the crowd if they want to see the WORM and he gives it to them and he gets the three count.

Spring Stampede Thoughts

The crowd appeared to be a little larger than the company’s last show in Arcadia. I don’t know if the inclusion of Scotty Too Hotty, Greg Valentine, and Norman Smiley had anything to do with the increase.

I was a little surprised that Erick Stevens, Jon Davis, and Damien Wayne were in the opening match together because all three men are being pushed. This was a good way to start off the show.

I like how they have merged the Ring of Honor storylines into FIP especially with the company running in Florida. With Roderick Strong not on the show, Davey Richards coming out throughout the night kept Strong’s name involved with the show.

The women’s match was okay. With new women being brought in to complement the SHIMMER talent that works some FIP shows, it allows for new female talent to get into the ring.

The match between Kenny King and Tyler Black was good. These are two wrestlers who have taken their game to a new level in 2008 and the rest of the year will only bring good things to both of them.

The Valentine/Smiley match was not a typical FIP match, but you don’t expect these guy to hit fifteen planchas.

I really liked the tag match between the YRR and the team of Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious. All four men worked well together. There was also the underlying issue between Jacobs and Delirious since they are not regular tag team partners. They had Jacobs out of position during a tag attempt by Delirious. This also built on the matches from the Crystal River show and past shows since Delirious has been involved in a feud with Sal Rinauro.

I liked the Austin Aries/Jerry Lynn match. I hope this was not an isolated appearance for Jerry Lynn since he is one of the top wrestlers around. He is able to work with guys like Aries and Strong and not be out of place.

The main event was okay and Scotty Too Hotty did a great job of getting the crowd into the match. That is one thing that a lot of other wrestlers cannot do and to see Scotty be able to have the crowd in his hand to do the simplest things.
