BILL BEHRENS NWA NOTES for 6-23-08

6/21 NWA Anarchy Report by Larry Goodman

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NWA Anarchy returned to the NWA Arena in Cornelia , Georgia for another successful television taping.

It was a long, hot night, but a good one, as they taped three hours of television instead of the usual two. The crowd of 200 had necessary staying power to hang for the full three hours. There have certainly been shows where they were hotter during the body of the matches, but the decibel level spiked at all the key moments.

It was a night for building feuds, and doing so with a relatively minimal level of physical altercations between the feudees. Blood feuds – the kind where men hate each other, and the reasons for that hate are made clear and compelling. It ain’t the The Church of Southern Wrestling for nothing.

NWA Anarchy Owner Jerry Palmer opened the show, ax handle in hand. He was mad to the nth degree with Seth Delay and Chad Parham. (Delay used brass knucks on him and the two biggest thingyheads in Anarchy proceeded to cut his hair at the last taping). Before delving into his personal issues, Palmer said Slim J was bouncing back but did not have a medical release yet. Out came Shadow Jackson. The building exploded, just like it always does. Jackson wanted Chad Parham in the worstest way. “They got to get,” Jackson said. Palmer promised Jackson that Parham’s schedule would open right up to him.

(1) T.K. Cross beat Jay Clinton in a short match. Cross got a big pop from the kids and teenage girls. Clinton ’s outfit was indescribably interesting. Neither one of these guys is in what you would call tip top cosmetic shape. Cross got the pin with an elevated full nelson drop.

Iceberg entered with the Reverend. The Rev said Iceberg proved he was the best big man in the business at Philips Arena by once again defeating Shatter. Rev said the Rejects weren’t intimidated by Jeff G. Bailey’s slant-eyed mystery man from the Orient or the Universal Soldier. He pointed out that Bailey only had two guys, while there were three Rejects, and no two men could take them. It was time to “bring forth the sacrifice.”

(2) Iceberg (with the Reverend) destroyed Malachi in 4:43. Malachi managed to dropkick Iceberg through the ropes. Iceberg made him pay for his insolence. Iceberg dismantled Malachi with power moves, while making no serious attempt to pin him. Malachi was done after a freight train corner splash, but he was in for more suffering. Iceberg hit a classic gordbuster, then the rolling cannonball into the corner - the No Pain Train’s answer to Umaga’s Somoan Wrecking Ball. Iceberg finished Malachi with the Ground Zero splash.

On the WrestleVision, Greg Hunter, Anarchy’s ring announcer/play-by-play announcer par excellence, was with the NWA Anarchy Television Champion, Truitt Fields, Hunter said the question of the number one contender kept coming back to Jeff Lewis and Hayden Young. He said Fields’ next defense would be against a former TV champion. Lewis interrupted. They were singing his music, as he was the only two time former TV champion. Young stuck his two cents in and said he was also a former champion. Fields’ opponent was revealed as the returning Brandon Phoenix. Fields told Lewis and Young to solve the contendership dilemma amongst themselves.

(3) Brodie Chase (with Melissa Coates) beat Bo Newsome in 3:32. Coates has gone all out with the naughty dominatrix gimmick complete with the riding crop. A mom in the first row was shielding her son’s eyes. Chase hit a pumphandle suplex and toyed with the teenage rookie. Fans started a “We want Don” chant. When Newsome made his comeback, Coates distracted with the riding crop and Chase got the pin with a spiral powerbomb.

Postmatch, Coates slapped Newsome across the face. She licked the riding crop in anticipation of a whipping. Before it could get even kinkier, Matthews chased Chase and Coates to the back. Adrian Hawkins entered the ring and promptly laid Newsome out with a DDT.

(4) Jay Fury (with Nemesis) beat Chip Day in 2:56. Concrete Gorillas got a security escort to the ring. Nemesis kept his hood on. Fresh off positive reviews for his performance at CHIKARA’s Young Lions Cup, Day got off to a hot start. Fury quickly snuffed out the rally. He dumped Day out to Nemesis, who administered a vertical suplex on the hardwood floor. Back inside, Fury hit a german suplex right into a dragon suplex for a near fall. Finish featured an awesome adjustment by Fury. Fury dodged Day’s tornado kick and went for his Enzifury, but the ring positioning was off, so he had to do a double spin and hit the move right on the money.

Nemesis cut a promo on Jackson and got the “Nemesissy” chant in return. Nemesis said this was no time to play games. “I can have you, Shadow, any time, dog.”

(5) Ace Rockwell & Wild Bunch (Billy Buck & Chris King) beat Todd Sexton & The Technicians (Bob E & Tyler Smith) in 9:42 when Buck pinned Smith. Huge pop and chant for Ace as the babyface trio rushed the ring. The highlight of the shine was a Rockwell clothesline over the top on Smith. Sexton wanted no part of it until the Technicians took control of Buck. Rockwell made the tag. Sexton ran away. As Rockwell confronted Smith, Sexton blindsided Rockwell with a chop block. Todd and the Technicians did a number on Rockwell’s knee. Rockwell’s selling was killer. Sexton used a spinning toe hold into a figure four. King splashed Sexton to break the hold. Off the hot tag, Buck hit a Samoan drop on Smith but E was there to break up the pin. Buck went for a sunset flip on Smith, but E hooked Smith’s arms to block it. King dropkicked E, and Smith went down for the three count. The first competitive match of the night. Good heat. Nice finish.

Sexton put Rockwell back in the figure four. Meanwhile, Technicians gave King a Hart Attack on the floor. Sexton said he wanted to hear Rockwell squeal like his brother. Rockwell refused to give up. Buck hit the ring with a chair to drive Sexton and his minions away. Rockwell needed help. At no time did he put any weight on the injured knee.

(6) Mikal Judas beat Mr. Adonis (with Jeremy Vain) in 11:23. Judas’ pursuit of Vain had turned to be a great story. Vain had a look of extreme concern as the crowd roared for Judas’ entrance. Judas looked jacked. He controlled Adonis with a crushing side headlock in the early going, while continually glaring at Vain. Adonis finally hit a back suplex, but Judas was up first and immediately gave Adonis a chokeslam. Judas pointed at Vain before making the cover. Vain put Adonis’ foot over the bottom rope. Judas brought Vain in the hardway for a major pop. Vain escaped through the ropes just in the knick of time. The ref crew ordered Vain to the back. Adonis capitalized on the commotion with a rabbit lariat that sent Judas to the floor. Vain left with a big smile on his face. Adonis softened Judas up on the outside. Then, he went to power moves on the inside. At one point, Judas goozled Adonis, but was too weakened to follow through. Judas hit a middle rope lariat to spark his comeback. Adonis blocked El Crucifijo. Adonis hooked the ropes to block a chokeslam. Judas blocked Adonis’ finishing move and busted out a Chokebreaker for the pin. Vain was too chickennuts to get in the ring, so Judas rolled Adonis out before exiting through the front door.

The first half will be edited into two television episodes with the Iceberg vs. Shatter vs. Judas match from Phillips Arena airing on one of those shows.

(7) Sex, Talent & Money (J. T. Talent & Andrew Pendleton III with Caleb Konley) beat Hollywood Brunettes (Andrew Alexander & Kyle Matthews in 6:11 when Pendleton pinned Alexander. Matthews had his ribs taped. Brunettes hit a double slingshot suplex on Pendleton early on. But when Matthews went for his signature corner dropkick, Konley pulled Pendleton out of harms way. T & M worked over Matthews bad ribs. He hot-tagged Alexander, who hit a Russian legsweep on Pendleton. Talent was there for the save. Brunettes had Pendleton set up for the Sheeney Curse, when Konley dumped Matthews off the top rope. Pendleton pinned Alexander with his feet all over the ropes.

T & M’s victory celebration was cut short, as Jeff G. Bailey came out with Shatter and Kimo, Anarchy’s two most impressive physical specimens Bailey said there were three of them, which reminded him of the Rejects. Like it or not, Bailey said they were doing a match against Shatter and Kimo. Bailey told Dan to pay close attention to what his two could do to the Rev’s three.

(8) Shatter & Kimo (with Jeff G. Bailey) beat Talent & Pendleton & Konley in 4:40 when Kimo submitted Konley. Konley stripped to his undie style trunks. The teenage girls behind me were drooling over Konley. STM nominated Talent to start. The Elite destroyed him. Kimo’s karate attack is throwback to the 70s. Nobody in today’s wrestling uses this style of offense. He put Talent down with a jumping karate blow to the base of the neck that was instant paralysis. Kimo withstood a double flatliner attempt with a show of strength and reversed it into a double STO. Kimo had Konley up for a press slam that Pendleton broke up with a kick to the gut. It broke down to 3 against 2. Shatter spinebustered the hell out of Talent. Kimo nailed Konley with a spinning karate blow and locked in the Information Extractor. Shatter gave Pendleton a PTSD for good measure. A devastating display by the Elite.

Via the Wrestlevision, we saw Hunter backstage with New Wave. Hunter said Rejects saved their titles the last time with a belt shot. Steven Walters said New Wave was going to win again, and this time it would be no fluke. Driver agreed. This was weak. Neither of these guys are what you would call extroverts, but you’ve got start somewhere.

(9) Truitt Fields beat Brandon Phoenix to retain the NWA Anarchy Television Title in 11:13</B> Phoenix held the TV title in 2006 and had been absent from Anarchy since the end of 2007. He moved about the same, but this was heaviest I can recall seeing him. Fields can’t get any leaner. Fields used a Finlay Roll during the opening minutes. Once Fields had assumed control of the match, Lewis came to ringside. The distraction allowed Phoenix to club Fields from behind. Lewis appeared to have evil intentions in mind, but Young came out to second Fields. Phoenix unleashed his suplex attack. Collision of clotheslines and both men down. Phoenix blocked Truitt’s first attempt at the Killing Fields and hit his atomic facebuster. Sorta. Fields kicked out and won it with the Killing Fields. Not particularly good or particularly heated. I doubt this will air in its entirety.

Afterwards, Lewis used a belt shot on Fields. Young clocked Lewis and got the belt. When the cobwebs cleared, Fields saw Young holding the belt and assumed he had done the deed. Lewis was standing on the ramp, basking in the dissension.

(10) Devil’s Rejects (Shaun Tempers & Azrael with the Reverend) beat New Wave (Derrick Driver & Steven Walters) to retain the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles via DQ in 8:40. New Wave are getting a push, just as Wild Bunch did before them. It’s worked well to elevate both teams without shoving them down the fans’ throats. New Wave came out flying and had the crowd behind them. Tempers derailed Driver’s springboard move, such that Azrael caught him with a dropkick to take over. Rejects used a sweet double team that was like an inverted Natural Disaster. The Rev smacked Driver a good one. The heat picked up as Driver brought Azrael off the top with a huracanrana. Hot tag. Walters hit a sunset flip out off the ropes for a very close near fall on Tempers- and suddenly you believed New Wave just might pull it off. New Wave hit the Unskinny Bop moonsault. 1..2..The Rev pulled ref Harold James out and punched him. But Brent Wiley slid into the ring to make the three count. Jubilation. New champions. Not. Hunter announced that James had DQed Rejects because of the Reverend’s actions. I can’t remember the last time the Dusty finish was used in Cornelia. It worked flawlessly.

(11) Shadow Jackson beat Chad Parham in 5:10. The crowd went nuts again for Jackson . Parham took a lariat over the top with a big bump into the rail and stalled. Turned out he was playing possum. He tried to bust up Jackson ’s eye. Good stuff. But Jackson moved and a charging Parham crotched himself on the middle rope. Comeback time. Delay tried to interfere and took a press slam off the top for his troubles. Palmer chased Delay out of the building with his ax handle. Jackson started no selling Parham’s shots. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Parham went to bash Jackson with his framed Certificate of Awesomeness. Salvatore Rinauro showed up to foil that plan, and Jackson pinned Parham with the 1031.

Concrete Gorillas hit the ring and hung Jackson over the tope rope. Molten heat. Fields and Rinauro made the save. Palmer joined them in the ring, and the babyface foursome had a heated exchange with with the Gorillas, as they were escorted from the building. The show closed with the crowd going bananas for Jackson again.

NOTES: Palmer announced there would be no show on July 5. The next television taping will be on July 12 with Shatter vs Azrael, Rinauro vs. Delay and Lewis & ? vs. Young & Fields…Hostile Environment ’08 is set for July 19…Melissa Coates is booked for the Women’s Extreme Wrestling PPV taping on June 27 in Philadelphia . She’s going to be unveiling a new stewardess gimmick…Rockwell, Rinauro, Fields and Young are scheduled to appear for the June 28 Prime Time Pro Wrestling show in Manchester, Ga…Konley has moved back to Georgia and plans to be back as a regular…Don Matthews and Bo Newsome hosted the Top Rope Kids Club.

NWA Anarchy TV Report by Ca$hFlowX

Episode 122

June 16, 2008

I’m still recovering from attending Chikara’s Young Lions Cup VI, Night 2 in Hellertown , PA. Commentary regarding Kyle Matthews and Chip Day is in a separate post on the NWA Anarchy messageboard.

WRESTLING: (n.) ’res-ling A sport of contest in which two individuals face off in unarmed combat.

ANARCHY: (n.) an-ar-key (1) A state of lawlessness due to absence of authority. (2) A complete lack of order.

What happens when you mix the two together? NWA-Anarchy!

- Welcome to NWA Anarchy Wrestling, this is PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING~! Last week on NWA Anarchy TV, the Wild Bunch gained another cheap victory over the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Champions the Devil’s Rejects (Shaun Tempers & Azreal). First, the Wild Bunch win by countout and then by disqualification. John Johnson believes they are prolonging the inevitable: losing to the almighty Staff of Righteousness. Speaking of tag teams, Seth Delay decked Sal Rinauro with a pair of brass knuckles and provided a free haircut. Also, Nemesis trashing of Shadow Jackson distracted Slim J long enough provided Jay Fury with a pinfall victory. This week, Mikal Judas gets his hands on Mr. Rob Adonis, and Jeff Lewis and Hayden Young and Consequences Creed battle for to face-off with NWA Anarchy TV Champion Truitt Fields. In this week’s featured contest, Phil Shatter cashes in his rematch clause from Hardcore Hell to face NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Iceberg.

1. Hollywood Brunettes (“the Wizard of Aaaaaaaahs” Andrew Alexander & “2 Hot 4 TV” Kyle Matthews) defeated Chip Day & Adrian Hawkins via pinfall.

Chip had a good showing at Chikara’s Young Lions Cup VI and Matthews didn’t do so bad himself considering he was in the opening bout. Day dominates by outquicking Andrews at every twist and turn. After commercial, Alexander applies the dreaded Indian death lock to Day! Day fights out, but Alexander is able to make the tag to Matthews. The Brunettes smartly work over Day’s knee to eliminate his high flying offense. Day buys himself time with a head scissors takedown and struggles to his corner for the hot tag. Hawkins cleans house. Hawkins tries to award Alexander with a free Extreme Makeover, but Matthews rams him into Day. Alexander rolls up Hawkins for the victory.

COMMENTS: The Brunettes earned a well-deserved victory. The crowd was disinterested in Day’s high flying offense (as was when Wes Grissom wrestled Todd Sexton several weeks ago).

- Greg Hunter is backstage with “the 7 Figured Deal” Ace Rockwell. Last summer, Rockwell claimed the greatest prize on a one-armed bandit when it popped up 7-7-7 by unseating then champion Chad Parham. (Of course, slot machines have evolved nicely over the past 10 years.) Afterwards, he suffered a major injury and lost the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title to Phil Shatter. Since then, Rockwell has made occasional appearances, but hasn’t spoken. Rockwell tells Hunter that he fulfilled his dreams in 2007. Unfortunately, a heinous attack launched by the Rejects left Rockwell with a torn meniscus. But in true babyface fashion, he has no excuses for losing. Despite Rockwell’s personal life being in shambles, he came back. He felt like has was 100% in his rematch with Shatter, but the much larger adversary was the better man. Recently, Ace called Adrian Hawkins and found out he was to face Todd Sexton. Rockwell admits he let down many a soul by jobbing to Sexton. Of course, the question inquiring fans want to know is, will Rockwell back for good? Yes. And he plans to recapture the heavyweight title.

- Back to the NWA Arena, Todd Sexton challenges Ace Rockwell to a singles match.

2. The New Jerk Order (Todd Sexton & Bobby Hill & Tyler Smith) defeated Jay Clinton & Jonathan Davis & Yoshi Hiroshima .

Team Technician & Sexton legally assault tonight’s enhancement talent. Sexton finishes off Clinton with a hammerlock clothesline.

COMMENTS: Team Technician certainly accomplished what it set out to do.

3. Mikal Judas defeated Mr. Rob Adonis via DQ.

It’s evident that Jeremy Vain refuses to leave his bodyguard’s side, but the referees escort him back to the locker room. (Or so the referees think they chased Vain back to the locker room.) The crowd rallies loudly behind Mikal. Judas responds by smashing Adonis’ claw hand on the middle turnbuckle. Judas smartly works over Adonis’ claw hand by punching and posting it. Adonis momentarily gains the advantage, but further injures his hand by punching Judas. What a dolt. To the floor, Judas guardrail smashes Adonis’ hand. After commercial, Judas continues to dominate Adonis at ringside. Moments later, Jeremy Vain, dressed as a security guard, sprays and tosses hot coffee in Judas’ face. Adonis manhandles Judas by tossing him around like Paper Mache. Vain makes the cover and Adonis counts the pinfall. My, has Vain fallen from grace.

COMMENTS: Judas employed sound strategy by working over Adonis’ claw hand. I’m now how sure this feud will get, but Adonis has the opportunity to move the ladder.

4. Hayden Young defeated Jeff Lewis and Consequences Creed to become #1 contender to NWA Anarchy TV Champion Truitt Fields.

NWA Anarchy TV Champion Truitt Fields joins the announcing crew to scout his opponents. Johnson immediately accuses Fields of using the GI Bill to book a handicap match for the Awesome Attraction. Johnson might be half right because they immediately eliminate Lewis to keep the title shot amongst them. Lewis breaks up the reunion by clipping Creed. Young & Creed focus on their strategy and send Lewis flying. Johnson accuses Fields of ducking Lewis. I concur. Lewis reenters and employs a shortcut. Lewis ducks and Creed accidentally wipes out Young with a rolling clothesline. Konnan would be extremely pissed to find out that Creed didn’t hit the intended target. With Creed disposed, Lewis focuses his attack on Young’s back. Creed eventually heads back in. Young aids and abets with Creed. Young uses a Sunset flip to help Creed deliver a German suplex on Lewis for a two count. Creed suffers the consequences with a clothesline. Johnson inquires how much Fields paid for the hit on Lewis. Fields counters that he already sent Lewis straight to DVD. Young mounts a comeback. Young heads to the High Rent District, but Creed meets him. Young elbows Creed aside, but Lewis connects makes Young by superplexing him on Creed. Good spot. Lewis covers Creed for a near fall. Johnson continues to make excuses for Lewis failed sequels. Creed connects with a roll through suplex and a gutbuster across the shoulder on Young. Creed turns attention to Creed and they pull a move out of Marcus Alexander Bagwell’s book: a double cross bodyblock. Young attempt to capitalize, but misses the Flying Squirrel on both opponents. Creed prepares to knockout his former tag partner with the Monte Fisto, but he ducks and Lewis eats a knuckle sandwich. Young seizes the opening with an enziguri on Creed and maneuvers over to pin Lewis.

COMMENTS: This was a tough assignment for all three participants especially when it includes the dynamic of two faces against a single heel. There were good spots, but this was better live than on TV.

5. Phil Shatter w/Jeff G Bailey defeated “The Altar of Human Mutilation” Iceberg w/”the Reverend” Dan Wilson & the Staff of Righteousness via DQ. Thus, Iceberg retains the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title.

Shatter is incensed that he lost the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title to Iceberg at Hardcore Hell? Who wouldn’t be? Iceberg splattered Shatter’s blood to the point where the Universal Soldier was forced tap. Shatter has deadly intentions and pummels Iceberg before the ring introductions are handled. When they enter the ring, Shatter continues to brutalize the No Pain Train. Iceberg eludes a middle turnbuckle move. Iceberg’s advantage is short-lived with Shatter returning his attack above Iceberg’s right eye. Iceberg eventually fights back by attempting to further mutilate Shatter’s wound that he suffered at HH. Shatter rolls to the arena floor to recoup his senses after taking a stiff clothesline. Back in the ring, Iceberg maintains the advantage with a gourdbuster. Shatter wants to fire back, but Iceberg ends all hope with a belly to belly suplex for a near fall. After taking a series of shoulderblocks, Shatter powerslams Iceberg for a two count. Shatter heads to the top rope and lands the ELBOW DROP OF DOOM~! Shatter makes the cover, but Iceberg kicks out! Shatter awaits Iceberg, but the No Pain Train counters the spear with a knee. Iceberg avalanches Shatter. Iceberg heads to the middle turnbuckle, awaits Shatter and finds himself on the wrong end of a PTSD powerbomb. Sensing danger, the Reverend sends in the reinforcements. Bailey quickly turns the tide by unleashing another monster. Kimo (a North Carolina indy wrestler) wipes out the Rejects, including Iceberg, who eats a Samoan drop. With Kimo sending the Rejects scampering, Bailey lavishes the moment.

COMMENTS: Just when you thought the NWA Elite is finished off, Bailey always has an unpleasant surprise for his opponents. You better enjoy Shatter while you can because he’s too good to not be picked up by Vince.

OVERALL: The storylines picked up compared to the last two weeks. There was only one bad move and that was having Day tagging with Hawkins, which didn’t go over well with the crowd. Good show.

6/7 NWA Main Event TV Review

Posted by Larry Goodman

The show opened with the owner of NWA Main Event, Mike Porter, in the office with Jason James, who could feel something major was going to happen tonight. Jack Johnson poked his head in the door to ask where the bathroom was.

The place I just came from, little, bitty bathroom... you could squeeze your way into it, but you had pretty much had to SAW your way out of it.

James was joined by Tyler Clemens on commentary.

(1) Ali Stevens beat Se7en (with K-9 Kohl). Two very large black men squaring off in this one. Early on, Steven hit a beautiful slingshot crossbody onto both Se7en and Kohl. Helluva move for a guy that size. Coming out of the commercial break, Se7en was in control. Stevens used a jawbreaker to start his comeback. They traded punches. “Atomic Dogg” had the harder head. Kohl grabbed Stevens by the leg, but Se7en blindside attack never came close, as he tumbled over the top. Back inside, Stevens finished Se7en with his senton splash to remain undefeated in NWA Main Event.

(2) Steven Green beat Damien Payne (with K-9 Kohl & nameless large-breasted stripper type).Clemens questioned Green’s readiness to come off the disabled list. Payne and Kohl took advantage of what Jason James called Green’s “rookieness.” Green rolled out from under Payne’s leisurely senton bomb attempt. Green on fire. Desperation face rake by Payne but to no avail. Green pinned Payne with the worst looking O’Connor roll in wrestling history. The Green fans went wild.

Payne chop blocked Green’s bad knee and put him in the figure four. All the refs (Ferrari, Jerry Ryman and Mark Owens) were still trying to pry Payne off Green as they went to commercial.

(3) Greg King Jr. presumably beat Marc Anthony (with Charmin’ Charles) via DQ. As Anthony decimated King, the commentators said Charles was all about the title, even if Anthony was too insane to care. It took three King dropkicks to finally take Anthony off his feet. Anthony turned right around and kicked King’s head in. “You just can’t keep a good maniac down,” said Clemens. Anthony had King beat after the first Maniac Melee (top rope elbow). Charles ordered a second one. Anthony not only delivered, he knocked ref Mark Owens the #### out AND hit a third Melee.

Stevens hit the ring and went nose-to-nose with Anthony. They exchanged right hands. The entire dressing room emptied out to pull them apart. They each broke loose and it ended up as a massive scrum as they went to commercial.

June 10 at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds: From ROH: Davey Richards vs. Dingo, Anthony vs. Stevens, and LT Falk & Andy Douglas (hmm) vs. Damien Payne & Shane Smalls.

June Slam Jam 2008 on June 21 at the Nashville Fairgrounds: a Nick Gulas Memorial Battle Royal, an undetermined match from Wrestle Birmingham, and a television champion will be crowned. Two weeks away and that’s it.

During the break, matchmaker Jeff Daniels added a Stevens/Anthony streetfight to today’s program, TV time permitting.

(4) Steve-O vs. Christian Jacobs ended in a double pin and was ruled a no contest at 6:32. Clemens said the fans were excited about the return of O after a week off. The announce team did the hard sell for the live shows. Jacobs hit three big moves- a fallaway slam, a hanging vertical suplex and a hotshot. O kicked out of all three. O hit the dreaded enzuigiri for the double down. James said we wouldn’t want see a double count out ending. O made a comeback where it looked like they were moving in slow-motion. O escaped from a catapult into the corner and hit a twisting crossbody off the ropes. Did that sequence ever look lame. Jacobs did a half-assed Northern lights suplex. O hit a German suplex and referee Jamie Ferrari counted both men’s shoulders down. Ferrari was put over for making a heads up call.

Anthony and Charles were in the exhibition area outside the Fairgrounds Arena. This was surreal. Anthony was wearing an army helmet and holding a plunger in his hand. Anthony said his (deceased) Uncle Roddy P. had to come to him with a warning that somebody was coming to take Uncle Charles’s belt. Channeling General Patton, Anthony said Roddy told him to don the helmet and send Lt. Killsworth, aka his pet dachshund, Killer, off to all corners of the globe to gather the allies. “If that’s the way, you (Stevens) want to play. Come on down to the Price Is Right. And find out just how bad my bite really is.” Anthony began barking into the plunger. “He’s crazier than an outhouse rat,” said Charles.

Steve-O cut a backstage promo for his rematch against Jacobs on Tuesday, June 10. I can hardly wait.

(5) L.T. Falk pinned Shane Smalls to win the NWA Mid-American X Division Title in 11:46. Similar to their first match, Falk dominated the fast-paced flippy exchanges, with story being it was too early to put Smalls away. The momentum did a complete 180 when Smalls hit a single arm DDT across his knee. Smalls was all over Falk’s arm for a very long time. The match turned again when Smalls missed a BME and Falk nailed him with a 360 kick. Falk was very slow to cover. Smalls kicked out at two. Smalls connected with an enzuigiri. He covered using the ropes for extra leverage, but Ferrari caught him. Falk hit a spinning neckbreaker for a near fall, and looked up to find Payne at ringside. Falk fell for the distraction, but not for long, as he soon had Smalls set up for the Falkin’ Over. Smalls blocked and sent Falk into the ropes where Payne gave him a hotshot. Small caught Falk on the rebound with the Last Rites. Falk kicked out. Payne gave Falk a snap suplex on the concrete and tossed him back inside. Falk kicked out again. Payne distracted Ferrari and tossed brass knucks to Smalls. Falk ducked, and Smalls had to put on the brakes to avoid clocking Payne. Falk dropkicked Smalls into Payne and it was time to be Falkin’ Over.

Smalls and Payne beat Falk down. Andy Douglas strolled out ringside with a smile on his face and a chair in his hand. He instructed the heels to hold Falk steady. Swerve. Douglas laid Smalls and Payne to waste with chairshots. Douglas said the Naturals had parted ways because he was tired of following Stevens.

Smalls and Payne were backstage with Jason James. Payne had a splitting headache from the chairshot and Small was holding his aching back. They issued a challenge to Falk and Douglas.

Falk was on the phone backstage. It was Douglas confirming that he would be Falk’s partner at the Fairgrounds on Tuesday night.

They aired a replay of the pull apart between Anthony and Stevens and segued into clips from the Street Fight. They fought all over the building, up into the balcony and out into the parking lot. One clip showed Anthony close to falling off the balcony. Another showed the building emptying out to follow the action into the parking lot. It ended with Charles and Anthony locking the door of the dressing room to keep Stevens at bay.

THE GOOD: The best thing about this show was Anthony/Stevens program played out – from the pull apart to Antony ’s vignette to the streetfight clips. The initial confrontation had the necessary intensity. As pull aparts go, this one was pretty decent. The vignettes with Anthony and Charles was both creative and freaking hilarious. Anthony is a unique talent and that’s gold in wrestling. Showing only brief clips of their streetfight was a very smart idea. It looked terrific in that form and got me interested in seeing the rematch. Some great camerawork in the balcony, too. One of the better things in general about NWA Main Event is the announcing. James and Clemens put everything over - the product, the talent, the stories – but not to a ridiculous degree where it detracts from the enjoyment of the show. Smalls and Falk had another good match. Smalls REALLY made a point of working on that arm this time around. You could see Douglas ’ turn coming but that’s not a bad thing at all. Jamie Ferrari was a model of competent refereeing. It was funny the way Ferrari was put over as the greatest thing since sliced bread after Owens brainless reffing the week before. Those were some priceless expressions on the faces of James and Porter at the end of the segment with Johnson.

THE BAD: As far as upgrades go, I hope the audio is priority number one. Having the announcers interpret some of the stuff said on house mic is semi-acceptable, but not being able to hear Douglas ’s big promo explaining his turn was really annoying. The lack of crowd noise deadens the show all the way around. They gave away Douglas ’ turn by showing the ad for the next show beforehand. I can understand needing to push the card throughout the show, so cut two different versions of the ad. I can’t see Slam Jam doing any business based on a battle royal and a random Wrestle Birmingham match. Too much damage has been done to the standard Battle Royal format to get people to care about it. Using rumble rules works when properly put together, as Bill Behrens at NWA Wildside/NWA Anarchy demonstrates on a regular basis. Jacobs and O started OK, but the last couple of minutes were brutally bad. They were doing a lot of stuff and looked too blown up to execute. It left me never wanting to see that match again. The two newcomers, Se7en and King, didn’t get a chance to show what they could do, but that wasn’t so much bad, as a necessary sacrifice to do the right thing for the top guys. The finish of Green/Payne was horrible, not that it mattered to Green's fan club.
