(Note: Due to Strikeforce not announcing which fights are preliminary fights and which fights are on the televised card as of this writing on June 26th, I decided to simply preview half the card on part one of this column and part two will preview the second half of the card.) Strikeforce Middleweight Division Fight Josh Neal (3-5-0) vs. Travis Johnson (0-0-0) Even though Josh Neal does have a losing record thus far in his MMA career, he has already competed in top notch groups like Strikeforce, ShoXC and International Fighting Championships. Josh Neal once fought three fights in the span of three weeks in 2007, winning once and losing twice in that span. Josh Neal has achieved all three victories by knockout and has yet to have any of his eight career fights go past twenty seconds of the second round. Despite making his MMA debut, Travis Johnson is an accomplished professional kick boxer, previously being ranked in the International Strike Kick Association and the International Kick Boxing Association. With his previous experience as a professional kick boxer, one would think that Travis Johnson would use the striking game to his advantage. My Prediction: Travis Johnson Strikeforce Welterweight Division Fight Eric Jacob (1-3-0) vs. Alexander Trivino (1-0-0) Eric Jacob is a fighter, who with a career losing record after competing in four professional fights, has yet to have a fight go past the first round. Eric Jacob has spent half of his career competing in the No Limit Fighting organization, while also appearing in Reality Fighting and Pure Combat. Eric Jacob has secured his only victory by knockout, but has also lost the majority of his fights by knockout as well. Alexander Trivino is a fighter who despite only having one career fight and victory, has the potential to eventually become a contender in Strikeforce. Alexander Trivino will want to try and match strikes with Eric Jacob to defeat him, as I mentioned earlier, Eric Jacob is susceptible to a knockout. My Prediction: Alexander Trivino Strikeforce Middleweight Division Fight Cyrillo Padilla (1-2-0) vs. Jesse Jones (2-0-0) Cyrillo Padhillo is a fighter who could be fighting in an important fight in his career, because this fight could make him a even record fighter or a fighter with a losing record. Cyrillo Padhillo will want to put this fight on the ground to counter the superior striking skills of his opponent. Jesse Jones has fought his entire career thus far is the Strikeforce promotion, so in a sense, Jesse Jones does enter the fight with a home court-esque advantage. Jesse Jones is a very dominant striker who has achieved victory in both of his professional fights by knockout. In his two previous fights, Jesse Jones has won by knockout and has a total fight time of just over two minutes. My Prediction: Jesse Jones Strikeforce Lightweight Division Fight Alvin Cacdac (1-0-0) vs. Brian Caraway (8-2-0) Alvin Cacdac enters Strikeforce after competing in just one previous fight, which he won after a very violent knockout. The lack of experience can truly hurt Alvin Cacdac in this fight, but he must use his striking skills to neutralize the submission skills of his opponent. Brian Caraway is quickly becoming an MMA fighter who is becoming the king of submissions in the mixed martial arts world. All eight of his professional MMA victories have come by submission and none of his ten career fights have gone to a decision.. Brian Caraway has spent a lot of his career in the Sport Fight promotion and is currently riding a six fight winning streak. One of Brian Caraways two losses have come by knockout, so he has to watch out for the striking ability of Alvin Cacdac, but his submission skills could be the key. My Prediction: Brian Caraway Strikeforce Lightweight Division Fight Bobby Stack (4-1-0) vs. Jose Palacios (3-0-0) Bobby Stack is a striker who has achieved three of four career victories by knockout, while the other has come by submission. Bobby Stack has already competed in the Strikeforce organization, where he suffered his only career loss, and has also competed in Gladiator Challenge. The previously mentioned loss has come by submission, where Bobby Stack has shown that he needs improvement in. Despite being an undefeated fighter, Jose Palacios hasnʼt fought in over a year, last fighting in February of 2007. Jose Palacios has experienced victories in all ways possible, with one by knockout, one by submission and one by decision. Long stretches between fights are not uncommon for Jose Palacious, because it was six months in between his first and second career fight and six months between his second and third fight. My Prediction: Bobby Stack Strikeforce Middleweight Division Fight Jesse Gillespie (1-1-0) vs. Dave Martin (0-1-0) This is a battle of two career Strikeforce fighters as both Jesse Gillespie and Dave Martin has fought all three total career fights in the Strikeforce promotion. Jesse Gillespie and Dave Martin fought once before at Strikeforce: Young Guns Two, where Jesse Gillespie defeated Dave Martin by decision. Jesse Gillespieʼs one loss came by knockout, so he will want to use his wrestling skills to keep his opponent grounded. Dave Martin, as I have already mentioned, fought and lost to Jesse Gillespie in his only career fight, so he does have experience against his opponent. Dave Martin has experience as a boxer, so he will want to use his striking ability to counter the wrestling skills of Jesse Gillespie. My Prediction: Jesse Gillespie Strikeforce Bantamweight Division Fight Chris Cariaso (6-1-0) vs. Anthony Figueroa (4-2-0) Chris Cariaso has already been featured in some of the top MMA groups going today like Strikeforce, ShoXC and Elite XC. Chris Cariaso is a fighter known for his conditioning, as five of six career victories have come by decision. The other career victory for Chris Cariaso has come by knockout and before suffering his first career loss, was riding a six fight win streak. Despite his only career loss coming by knockout, Chris Cariaso will want to use his striking skills to get his next victory. In his six fight professional career, five of six career fights for Anthony Figueroa has come in the Strikeforce promotion, the other came in the Cage Combat Fighting Championships promotion. Like his opponent Chris Cariaso, Anthony Figueroa is a fighter known for going the distance, with three of four career victories coming by way of decision. Anthony Figueroa is a solid striker who will want to keep the fight on the feet to attain victory by knockout. My Prediction: Chris Cariaso You can contact David Tees at bigtees360@yahoo.com |
