PREVIEWING THE SILVA VS. IRVIN PRELIMINARY CARD FOR TOMORROW'S UFC FREE BROADCAST

By David Tees on 7/18/2008 10:19 AM
UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Tim Credeur (9-2-0) vs. Cale Yarbrough (0-0-0)

During the UFC Ultimate Fighter 7, coach Forrest Griffin predicted that Tim Credeur would make it to the finals, but a loss to CB Dalloway in a second semi-final fight put an end to that. Tim Credeur is a heavily experienced fighter who has competed in the King Of The Cage, Bodog Fight and Rage In The Cage. Tim Credeur is primarily a submission fighter with seven career victories coming by submission, and he has fought Elite XC fighter Joey Villasenor and WEC fighter Chael Sonnen. Despite competing in the UFC Ultimate Fighter 7 reality show, Cale Yarbrough has yet to compete in a professional fight. This could either be his biggest advantage or disadvantage, because while Cale Yarbrough is completely inexperienced, Tim Credeur can’t scout a fighter who he has never seen fight.

My Prediction: Tim Credeur

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Shannon Gugerty (10-2-0) vs. Dale Hartt (5-0-0)

Shannon Gugerty is going to be one of ten plus fighters making their UFC debuts at this event, but he comes in with a lot of MMA experience. Shannon Gugerty has fought ten of his twelve professional fights in the Total Combat promotion, where he won eight of ten fights there. Shannon Gugerty is currently on a seven fight win streak, his last loss came to WEC Featherweight contender Cub Swanson. Shannon Gugerty is a very underrated submission fighter, in which seven of Shannon Gugerty’s ten career victories have come by way of submission. Dale Hartt is an undefeated fighter who has yet to have any of his career fights go the distance or to a decision. More than half of Dale Hartt’s professional fights have come out of the Full Force Productions promotion, where he won three professional fights. Dale Hartt is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight on the feet and on the ground, with two victories by knockout and three by submission.

My Prediction: Shannon Gugerty

UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Nate Loughran (8-0-0) vs. Johnny Rees (10-0-0)

Nate Loughran is possibly one of the best middleweight fighters the casual MMA fan has never heard of, with all eight of his professional fights not going the distance. Nate Loughran has fought nearly all of his fights in the Gladiator Challenge and Palace Fighting Championships. The first six fights of Nate Loughrans career never went past the first round, while his longest fight only went forty seconds into the second round. Nate Loughran is primarily a submission fighter, with all but one career victory being achieved by submission, the other was by knockout. Like his opponent Nate Loughran, Johnny Rees is undefeated and has yet to have any of his ten fights go the distance. All of Johnny Rees’s ten career fights came out of two promotions, the United Fighting League and Legends Of Fighting. It has been nearly eight months since Johnny Rees last fought (November 2007), so conditioning may be a factor. Also like opponent Nate Loughran, Johnny Rees is a submission fighter, who has won eight fights by submission.

My Prediction: Nate Loughran

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Brad “Bad” Blackburn (14-9-1) vs. James Giboo (11-2-0)

Brad Blackburn is a very experienced fighter who has already took on top MMA fighters like Roger Huerta, Jay Hieron and Rory Markham. Brad Blackburn has spent the last two years in the International Fight League, but has also spent time in Ring Of Fire and International Fighting Championships. Brad Blackburn has become a devastating striker with eight victories coming by knockout, but has suffered most of his losses by decision, which means his conditioning may play a factor in this fight. James Giboo is also becoming a rising star in MMA, having already fought top MMA prospect Ryan Jensen. James Giboo has fought in top organizations like Extreme Challenge, International Fight Organization and Glory Fighting Championships. In all of James Giboo’s thirteen professional fights, none have gone to a decision and his two losses have come by submission. Despite suffering all his losses by submission, James Giboo’s biggest strength is also submissions, by which he has achieved nine victories.

My Prediction: James Giboo

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Brodie Farber (13-3-0) vs. Rory Markham (15-4-0)

Brodie Farber is entering one of the most important fights of his career, even though he faced former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk. Brodie Farber has fought in top organizations like World Extreme Cagefighting, MMA Xtreme and Rage In The Cage. Brodie Farber is going to want to take this fight to the ground to achieve victory, with seven career victories coming by submission. One of the biggest stars to come out of the International Fight League is Rory Markham, who recently achieved victory at the Adrenaline debut event. One of the biggest victories achieved by Rory Markham in his career was over Affliction star Mike Pyle in April 2006. Rory Markham is a fighter known for finishing his fights, as none of his nineteen professional fights have gone to decision. Rory Markham is a very dangerous striker, because he has achieved ten career victories by way of knockout.

My Prediction: Rory Markham
