PREVIEWING THE ELITE XC ON CBS II SHOWTIME CARD

By David Tees on 7/25/2008 10:05 AM

Elite XC Heavyweight Division Fight
Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (6-1-0) vs. Travis “The Gladiator” Galbraith (15-5-0)

This could become the breakout fight in Elite XC for Rafael Cavalcante, who is undefeated in the promotion with victories over Wayne Cole and John Doyle. Prior to coming to Elite XC, Rafael Cavalcante fought in the International Fight League, where he fought UFC veteran Marcio Cruz. This fight could be about the conditioning of Rafael Cavalcante, who just fought last month at Elite XC: Return Of The King. Rafael Cavalcante will want to use his striking skills to gain victory because he has achieved five victories by knockout, with his only loss coming by disqualification. Travis Galbraith is a fighter who has fought in top organizations like PRIDE and King Of The Cage in his twenty fight career. Also, Travis Galbraith has fought top notch MMA fighters like Georges St. Pierre, Joe Doerkson and Jonathan Goulet. Unlike his opponent Rafael Cavalcante, Travis Galbraith will want to put this fight on the ground, with ten victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Travis Galbraith

Elite XC Featherweight Division Fight
Wilson Reis (4-0-0) vs. Brian Caraway (7-2-0)

Wilson Reis is quickly becoming one of the best featherweight fighters in MMA right now, recently defeating Justin Robbins during the Elite XC On CBS I preliminary card. Prior to coming to Elite XC, Wilson Reis has competed in Sho XC, Extreme Challenge and Combat In The Cage. Wilson Reis is going to want to ground Brian Caraway to gain victory, with three victories coming by submission. Brian Caraway is a talented submission fighter who has achieved six victories by way of submission, with the other victory by knockout. Brian Caraway has been a regular fighter for the Sport Fight promotion and his last victory came in the Strike Force promotion. Brian Caraway is currently riding a five fight winning streak that has last nearly a year and a half, since early 2007.

My Prediction: Wilson Reis

Elite XC Heavyweight Title Decision Fight
Antonio “Junior” Silva (10-1-0) vs. Justin Eilers (20-7-1)

Outside of Kimbo Slice, the most popular heavyweight fighter in Elite XC right now is the unbeaten in Elite XC fighter Antonio Silva. In his three fights for Elite XC, Antonio Silva has defeated Wesley Correira, Jonathan Weizorek and Ricco Rodriquez. The only loss thus far in Antonio Silva’s career came to A&E reality star Eric Pele at a Bodog Fight event. Antonio Silva is known as a fighter with incredible striking skills, with seven victories coming by knockout. In his eleven career fights, only one fight went past the first round, where Antonio Silva defeated Ricco Rodriquez by decision. Justin Eilers is a very underrated fighter who has fought in top promotions like the Ultimate Fighting Championships, World Extreme Cagefighting, HDNet Fights and Art Of War. Along with the promotions, Justin Eilers has fought top MMA stars like Andrei Arlovski, Brandon Vera, Dan Severn, Wesley Correira, Paul Buentello and Pedro Rizzo. It is interesting to note that even though Justin Eilers is competing for the Elite XC Heavyweight Title, this fight will mark his Elite XC debut. Justin Eilers will be looking to keep the fight standing against Antonio Silva, with twelve victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Antonio Silva
