Here’s your Showtime Allstar Wrestling television taping results for July 25 from the Bakery aka the Saw Mill in Millersville, Tn. Â
After a 6 month absence, Hot Rod Biggs was back doing the ringside interview segments. Biggs was pressed into service at the last minute when Reno Riggins got sick. Michael St. John had a family reunion, so their commentary will be added later.Â
All the usual suspects were there with the notable exceptions of Rob Roy McCoy, who I really wanted to see live, and Shawn Shultz. Â
The crowd was 115. At least that’s what they started with. More on that later. Â
(1) TJ Harley pinned Larry Cooter with a flying forearm at 2:19. Right before the finish, Cooter got a near fall with this lazy cover. It made no sense for a guy that has never won a match on TV. He must have caught Big Rig’s disease.   Â
Harley did a promo talking about the footage showing Shultz’s shopping spree with Rachel Worthington. Â
(2) High Society (Sean Casey & Chris Michaels with Fallon) beat Adam Armor & Chase Stevens in 11:17. Big pop for Stevens and Armor. As over as they are as a team, Stevens would have huge support if ever gets a run at the singles title. The crowd really picked up when Armor was taking the heat. They did a round of big moves near the finish, which saw Stevens get upset by Casey’s mistreatment of Fallon and get nailed by Michaels’ superkick. They forced Fallon to do Casey’s “throw it up, throw it down†tag line after the match and got the “you suck†heat. Â
Jerry Lynn did a promo for his title match against Kid Kash. Lynn gets the respect pop, where everyone responds, not just the kids and teenage girls. Â
(3) Arrick Andrews beat Sigmon in 4:35. Andrews is the clear number two singles babyface just behind Lynn, and numero uno with the females. Sigmon missed a diving head butt off the top, and Andrews pinned him after the Dragon’s Curse. Solid match, but you never got the sense that the crowd felt Andrews was in any danger of losing. Â
Andrews did a promo for his match against David Young later in the show. Â
(4) Rick Santel (with Paul Adams) pinned Jeff Jamison in 2:55 with the Santel Slam. Â
A-Team did a promo with David Young now added as a fourth member to Adams’ stable along with Santel and TVA. The gist was Santel wanted a title shot and didn’t care if it was against Kash or Lynn. Young was stepping in as Adams’ “problem solver†to take care of Andrews, and TVA was salivating about their title rematch against the Indians in the main event. Â
(5) Chrisjen Hayme beat Tatsu in 3:13. Not much heat for this. They went fast-paced back and forth, and it was not smooth at all, until Hayme hit a hanging spinning DDT. That was sweet. Hayme won it with a 450 splash. Â
(6) Kid Kash retained the SAW International Title when Jerry Lynn took him to a 15:00 draw (actual time of 17:19). A match made in heaven. Undeniably, the peak of the show. Kash gets nuclear heat in this building. When it comes to baiting a crowd, the dude is relentless. Kash did a ton of stalling, but it was the kind that made the crowd really want to see him get his ass kicked. And when it was time to go, you had two veterans that can really go, and know each other so well. Lynn did a tornado DDT and a rolling senton off the apron. Kash took over working Lynn’s low back. Lynn hit a reverse DDT and it was both men down with a minute to go. Lynn hit a backbreaker and the crowd thought he had the title. Lynn hit the TKO at the bell. Â
The crowd chanted for five more minutes. Kash teased like he was going to do it, but of course, he chickened out. The hardcore fans in the first row were waving stuffed animal chickens at Kash. Lynn said he was only beaten by the clock and challenged Kash to a no time limit match. The mic work went on past the point of maximum impact.   Â
(7) Chris Cane (with Larry Cooter) beat Steven Green in non-TV match that went 3:32. Green’s fan base was out in force. Cane pinned him with a variation on Elix Skipper’s Play of the Day. The Green fans wanted a rematch, and they get their wish next Friday night. Â
Sly announced Kash vs. Lynn with no time limit for the August 8 TV taping. Â
(8) Arrick Andrews beat David Young (with Paul Adams) via DQ in 11:06. Young was a stellar choice for a program with Andrews. Adams grabbed Andrews’ leg to make him a sitting duck for Young’s DDT. Andrews did the spinaround bulldog and actually hit it solidly for a change. Crowd was strong for Andrews here. He connected with the Dragon’s Curse and Santel hit the ring for the DQ. Santel and Young gave Andrews the beatdown until Tribal Nation made the save. Â
(9) Chrisjen Hayme beat Josh Hendrix in 2:27. Nobody gave a rat’s ass about Hendrix as a face, and the people don’t seem to hate Hayme enough to warrant a stronger push. Hayme did some wicked stuff to Hendrix’s back. The finish saw Hayme get Hendrix in position for an Air Raid Crash and then plant him with a spiral slam. Â
High Society and Stevens & Armor burst out of the back in a heated brawl. They shot a segment after the show to explain this. That lead to… Â
(10) High Society (Chris Michaels & Sean Casey with the Freak Squad) beat Chase Stevens & Adam Armor in 19:45. One hell of a back and forth brawl. It was Texas Tornado style most of the way, and they kept the intensity up for the entire length of the match. Fallon, Tiana and Lexi came out a few minutes into the match. Television does not do Tiana justice. Coming out of a round robin of big moves, Armor caught Michaels with a rolling reverse cradle. Casey put Michaels on top when the ref wasn’t looking and Michaels clasped his hands for the pin. Stevens was either legit knocked silly or that was one awesome job of selling. Â
(11) TJ Harley pinned Chris Cane with a flying foream at 2:24. Fine but it will look bad on TV. Zero heat. A third of the crowd was gone, and the ones that were there weren’t paying a whole lot of attention. I’ve noticed that same disinterested look to the crowd on TV at times. In general, crowd response is the weak link in SAW’s television presentation. What’s up with that? Admittedly, it was a long show, but hardly anybody leaves when NWA Anarchy tapes TV. I don’t care how long the show goes. Â
Harley did a promo promising his first match with Shultz for the next episode of TV. Â
They asked the fans to kindly fill up the hard camera side prior to the main event. Â
(12) Tribal Nation (Lennox Lightfoot & Indian Outlaw) beat Tennessee Violence Authority (Hammerjack & Matt Dillinger with Paul Adams) via DQ in 9:34. These guys worked very hard, Dillinger and Outlaw especially, and the 70 or so people that were left got into the match pretty good. Adams pulled the ropes down to dump Outlaw and start the heat. Outlaw ended up doing a Morton Roll to make the hot tag. Tribal Nation did the Totem Pole on Dillinger, and Santel again interfered for the DQ. Andrews evened the odds, but Young made it 4 against 3. Dillinger nailed Tribal Nation and Andrews with his pool cue to leave all of the babyfaces laying at the end. Â
NOTES: A new ring had been installed, but not without some trials and tribulations. As TVD noted on Jerkin’ the Curtain this week, Mike Sircy is officially gone from SAW and removed his ring Monday night. The one Ted Allen brought up to Nashville was too tall for the low ceiling at the Bakery, so hasty arrangements were made to obtain a new ring from Mike Samples. It looks great and was the subject of considerable praise from the wrestlers…Last night’s TV was a two camera shoot, as they are in the process of replacing the third camera that belonged to Sircy.  Â
