- Not many news coming out of the WWC front this past week as they took a few
days to regroup after having a successful Anniversary show last weekend. As we
had reported on the site, "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels has been announced
for next Saturday to face the new WWC Universal champion, Noriega in Bayamon,
PR.
- During an interview for a local wrestling website in Puerto Rico (luchalibreonline.tv)
Jose Roberto Rodriguez, WWC's Marketing Director talks about all the work that
was put into ensuring that the Anniversary show was a success. He also spoke
about some of the plans the company has for this year and for the future. He
mentioned that they have been discussing the possibility of a relocation of
their offices into another building. They are looking for a building that can
serve as a TV studio as well as a small arena and he mentions FCW as a blueprint
of what they want to accomplish. He goes on to say that one of the things they
really want to work on is to get their talent to sign contracts, which will
prevent a lot of the surprise jumps from one company to another (WWC to IWA &
vice versa). They want to start working more with the young talent in order to
develop their own "home grown" product just like they used to do back in the
80's and early 90's. A very interesting piece of information coming out of this
interview is that Rodriguez mentioned that the company now has the help of a
couple of new financial investors that have a vested interest in making sure
that the company keeps the momentum coming out off their biggest show of the
year. He promised a lot of surprises for the rest of the year and that they are
starting next weekend with Daniels making his appearance.
- Regarding Steve Corino, the last information I received was that he is to move
to Puerto Rico in the coming weeks and that his contract will be a 6 month deal
to begin with. Corino has mentioned during a couple interviews that his deal is
only as a wrestler and not as a booker, but that if the book is offered to him
that he would consider it. The word making the rounds on the island is that he
will be the booker for the company.
- The IWA-PR website has posted that Savio Vega is scheduled to report to work
at TNA on Monday July 28th. Savio has accepted a position as an agent with the
company.
- IWA will hold their weekly house show/TV taping tonight in Levitown. There
has been a change in the main event for the show as Chicano will be in a
handicap match against not only Faces of Fear Damian and Spectro, but also a new
comer by the name of Giant Manson. I will be waiting patiently to see where
they take this match and the angle as a whole. They have done a good job so far
building Chicano back up from the dumps where they had him for a while. His
character has been getting stronger with the way they have worked his face turn
this time and it would be a shame if they ruin it by squashing him at the hands
of the company's big men.
