WEC Featherweight Division Fight
Josh “The Fluke” Grispi (8-1-0) vs. Micah Miller (9-1-0)
This featherweight division fight between Josh Grispi and Micah Miller could determine the next challenge for WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber. Josh Grispi made an immediate impact in his WEC debut at WEC 32, where he defeated top Canadian fighter Mark Hominick by submission. Josh Grispi has competed in nine professional MMA fights and none of them have gone past the opening round. After suffering his only career loss in his third fight, Josh Grispi is currently riding a six fight winning streak. Josh Grispi is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight on the ground or on the feet, with all eight victories coming by knockout and submission. Micah Miller has had an interesting run thus far in the WEC, defeating Jesse Moreng and Chance Farrar, while losing to Cub Swanson. Prior to suffering his first ever loss to Cub Swanson at WEC 28, Micah Miller was on an eight fight undefeated streak. Micah Miller has yet to be knocked out or submitted in his MMA career, which goes to show how hard it will be to finish Micah Miller in the cage. Micah Miller will be looking to take the fight to the ground to gain victory, with five career victories coming by submission.
My Prediction: Micah Miller
WEC Bantamweight Division Fight
Brian Bowles (5-0-0) vs. “The Angel Of Death” Damacio Page (10-3-0)
Despite only fighting in five professional fights, Brian Bowles has already gained a victory over top ranked WEC fighter Charlie Valencia. Brian Bowles is a fighter known for finishing his fights, because none of his professional fights have gone to a decision. Besides competing in the WEC, Brian Bowles also competed in Wild Bills Fight Night and International Sport Combat Federation. Brian Bowles has proven to be a fighter comfortable on his feet or on the ground, with all five career victories coming by knockout or submission. Damacio Page has already competed against two top MMA fighters in Genki Sudo and Stephane Vigneault in 2006. Prior to competing in the WEC, Damacio Page has fought in King Of The Cage, Pancrase, K-1 Dynamite and Extreme Challenge. Before suffering his first loss in April 2006, Damacio Page was riding a six fight undefeated streak that lasted a little over a year. Damacio Page is a fighter who is comfortable keeping the fight on the feet or on the ground, with nine of ten victories coming by knockout and submission.
My Prediction: Damacio Page
WEC Lightweight Title Fight
“The Worm” Jamie Varner *Champion* (14-2-0) vs. Marcus “The Wrecking Ball” Hicks (8-0-0)
Jamie Varner came out of nowhere to defeat the seemingly unstoppable Rob McCullough at WEC 32 to become the WEC Lightweight Champion. Prior to his success in the WEC, Jamie Varner competed in the UFC, King Of The Cage and Rage In The Cage. Jamie Varner has also competed against top MMA names like Rob McCullough, Hermes Franca and Kyle Bradley. At one point in his career, Jamie Varner was on a twelve fight winning streak that last three years from 2003 to 2006. To keep the gold around his waist, Jamie Varner will want to put this fight on the ground, with nine of fourteen career victories coming by submission. Marcus Hicks is a fighter who is becoming known for his finishing abilities, with all eight of his fights ending by the second round. Marcus Hicks secured his WEC Lightweight Title opportunity after defeating Ed Ratcliff by submission in the first round of WEC 32. Since coming to the WEC in mid-2007, Marcus Hicks has defeated Ed Ratcliff, Sergio Gomez and Scott McAfee. Like his opponent Jamie Varner, Marcus Hicks has to take the fight to the ground to gain victory with five of eight career victories coming by submission.
My Prediction: Jamie Varner
WEC Light Heavyweight Title Fight
“All American” Brian Stann *Champion* (6-0-0) vs. Steve Cantwell (5-1-0)
The first ever live fight broadcast with WEC On Versus featured Brian Stann defeating Craig Zellner by knockout in round one. All but one fight in Brian Stann’s career took place in the WEC, where he defeated Doug Marshall at WEC 33 to become the WEC Light Heavyweight Champion. Brian Stann has yet to have a fight go past the first round in his professional career, in fact, his longest fight lasted just under five minutes. All of Brian Stann’s wins have come by knockout, so he will want to keep the fight standing to keep the title around his waist. Steve Cantwell has already fought Brian Stann in the WEC at WEC 26, where he lost to the current WEC Light Heavyweight Champion by knockout. After that loss, Steve Cantwell has gone on a two fight win streak in the WEC defeating Justin McElfresh and Tim McKenzie.. Besides competing in the WEC, Steve Cantwell has also fought professionally in the Rage In The Cage and Jungle Fight Europe promotions. Unlike Brian Stann, Steve Cantwell will want to put this fight on the ground, where he achieved three career victories by submission.
My Prediction: Brian Stann
WEC Welterweight Title Fight
“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit *Champion* (22-4-0) vs. Hiromitsu Miura (9-4-0)
Carlos Condit is not only the best welterweight fighter currently in the WEC, but one of the best in all of MMA having already fought Frank Trigg, Carlo Prater, Ross Ebanez, Renato Verissimo, Jake Shields, John Alessio and Brock Larson. Prior to entering the WEC, Carlos Condit has fought in the King Of The Cage, Ring Of Fire, Pancrase and Rumble On The Rock promotions.. Carlos Condit has gone undefeated thus far in the WEC, last defeating Carlo Prater at WEC 32 in February 2008. Carlos Condit will be looking to put this fight on the ground to keep his title, with twelve of twenty two career victories coming by submission. Hiromitsu Miura debuted in the WEC with a loss to Jason Miller at WEC 27, but rebounded to defeat Fernando Gonzales at WEC 29 and Blas Avena at WEC 33. Prior to entering the WEC, Hiromitsu Miura competed internationally in the K-1, DEEP and Pancrase promotions. The first ever fight in Hiromitsu Miura’s professional MMA career was part of the Pancrase 2004 Neo Blood Tournament, where he lost in the semi-finals. Unlike Carlos Condit, Hiromitsu Miura will look to keep the fight standing with five of nine career victories coming by knockout.
My Prediction: Carlos Condit
