PREVIEWING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 15 PRELIM CARD

By David Tees on 9/16/2008 11:52 AM

UFC Middleweight Division Fight
Dan Miller (8-1-0) vs. Rob Kimmons (21-3-0)

This fight will be the UFC debut for Dan Miller, who is a highly touted middleweight prospect from the International Fight League. Besides competing in the International Fight League, Dan Miller has also fought in Reality Fighting, Cage Fury Fighting Championships and Ring Of Combat. After suffering his only career loss against Mike Massenzio in April 2006, Dan Miller has been riding a six fight winning streak that has lasted over two years. Dan Miller could become a force in the UFC Middleweight Division, having also achieved five of eight career victories by submission. Rob Kimmons was last seen by UFC fans as a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 7, which was won by Amir Saddolah. Rob Kimmons has fought an impressive list of MMA personalities like Joe Riggs, Ryan Jensen, Marvin Eastman and Rob Yundt. In an interesting career note for Rob Kimmons, twenty of Rob Kimmons twenty four career fights have ended within the first round. Like Dan Miller, Rob Kimmons is also an experienced submission fighter who has gained thirteen of twenty one victories by submission.

My Prediction: Dan Miller

UFC Middleweight Division Fight
Drew “Massacre McFedries (7-3-0) vs. Mike Massenzio (10-2-0)

Drew McFedries has had an up and down run in the UFC that has been very inconsistent, so this fight could be very important in his career. In the UFC, Drew McFedries has gotten victories over Alessio Sakara, Jordan Radev and Marvin Eastman, but has suffered losses to Martin Kampmann and Patrick Cote. With a wide open UFC Middleweight Division that is currently dominated by Anderson Silva, a few victories strung together could put him in instant contention. Drew McFedries is a fighter known for his knockout ability, with more than half of his victories coming by way of knockout. Mike Massenzio is a fighter who is a veteran of the Ring Of Combat and Reality Fighting promotions before a short sting in the International Fight League. Prior to suffering his second career loss in May 2008 to Danillo Villefort, Mike Massenzio was riding a nine fight win streak. Mike Massenzio will be looking to ground the striker in Drew McFedries to gain victory, with half of his victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Drew McFedries

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Jason Brilz (15-1-1) vs. Brad Morris (9-3-0)

Jason Brilz is making his UFC debut in this fight, but is a well traveled veteran who has fought in over twelve different MMA promotions. Jason Brilz has fought top fighters like UFC veterans Justin Eilers, Jason MacDonald, Alex Schoenaur. Jason Brilz is currently riding a ten fight win streak that has lasted over six years and began on June 2002 against Nate Schroeder. Jason Brilz will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eight of fifteen career victories coming by submission. Brad Morris made his UFC debut at UFC 83 in auspicious fashion by losing to top heavyweight fighter Cain Velasquez. Prior to entering the UFC, Brad Morris was a mainstay in the King Of The Cage and Bodog Fight promotions. Expect Brad Morris to put this fight on the ground, with four of nine career victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Brad Morris

UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon (16-4-0) vs. Kyle Bradley (13-5-0)

Joe Lauzon has had an impressive run in the UFC that nearly lead to a UFC Lightweight Title shot until a loss to Kenny Florian at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 13. In his UFC run, Joe Lauzon has defeated Jens Pulver, Jason Reinhardt and Brandon Melendez before suffering the loss to Kenny Florian. Joe Lauzon was even a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5, which was eventually won by Nate Diaz, who is headlining this event. None of the twenty fights Joe Lauzon has fought in went to decision and he will want to ground his opponent, with thirteen career victories coming by submission. Kyle Bradley could become a threat in the UFC Lightweight Division, having previously fought against Melvin Guillard, Jamie Varner and Chris Lytle. Prior to suffering a loss to Chris Lytle at UFC 81, Kyle Bradley was riding a seven fight winning streak that last a little over a year. Unlike Joe Lauzon, Kyle Bradley will be looking to use his stand up to gain victory, with eight of thirteen victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Joe Lauzon

UFC Middleweight Division Fight
Wilson Gouveia (10-5-0) vs. Ryan Jensen (13-4-0)

Wilson Gouveia was nearing a potential shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Title shot after defeating Wes Combs, Seth Petruzelli, Carmelo Merrera and Jason Lambert, but a loss to Goran Reljic forced Wilson Gouveia to move down to the UFC Middleweight Division. Wilson Gouveia has also fought other top MMA fighters like Keith Jardine, Rory Singer and Jon Fitch. Originally, Wilson Gouveia was scheduled to fight Jeremy Horn at this event, but an injury to Jeremy Horn forced him off the card. Wilson Gouveia is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight on the feet or on the ground, with nine of ten career victories coming by knockout and submission. Ryan Jensen is becoming an experienced fighter who has previously competed in the UFC, Strikeforce, Extreme Challenge and the International Fighting Championships. Ryan Jensen has also fought top MMA fighters like Thales Leitas, Damien Maia, Joey Villasenor and Brock Larson. Ryan Jensen is a fighter known for finishing fights, with only one of his seventeen career fights going past the opening round. Ryan Jensen will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with eight of his thirteen victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Wilson Gouveia

UFC Middleweight Division Fight
Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara (12-7-0) vs. Joe Vedepo (7-1-0)

It seems like every fight Alessio Sakara is in could be considered a make or break fight because despite the talent of Alessio Sakara, he never seems to breakthrough into the UFC elite. During his time in the UFC, Alessio Sakara has defeated Elvin Sinosic, Victor Valimaki and James Lee and has lost to Dean Lister, Drew McFedries, Houston Alexander and Chris Leben. In fact, the last six fights in the UFC Alessio Sakara has competed in have ended within the opening round, with Alessio Sakara only gaining two of the victories in the six fights. Alessio Sakara is well known for his striking abilities, with seven of his twelve victories coming by knockout. This is easily the biggest fight in Joe Vedepo’s career, who was once riding a five fight winning streak before suffering the only loss thus far in his career.. Prior to entering the UFC, Joe Vedepo fought in promotions like Extreme Challenge and Xtreme Fighting Organization. Joe Vedepo is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight on the ground or on the feet, with six of seven career victories coming by knockout and submission.

My Prediction: Alessio Sakara
