SPOTLIGHT: PWINSIDER.COM

By Joel C Croyle on 9/18/2008 1:19 PM

To all my loyal readers, and passers by, dig into your seat straps and hear what I have to say. Before continuing I want to cement the fact that no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, asked me to write this on any one’s behalf including those employed through PWInsider, PWInsiderxtra or PWIpop..com. These are my opinions and mine only:

Yesterday I read on this site as well as many of you did I am sure about Raw’s dropped ratings. What really bothered me about that article however was another sentence. The sentence where one of the lead writers of PWInsider.com explained how he found out people were taking his information, his articles, without permission “not following the writers/editors code” as it were and putting it elsewhere.

You see, I have a big old’ problem with this one. Let me explain…Dave Sheerer may or may not realize this but we go back quite a ways. Dave, (and I think Mike and Buck as well but cannot confirm that) used to write for my favorite wrestling website 1wrestling.com. That was at least 3 or 4 years ago, maybe more. My favorite column on that wonderful site was Dave’s lariat. As soon as he announced he was heading elsewhere I began reading the new PWInsider site, and followed again and again with PWInsiderxtra.com and PWIpop.com. But the main thing is that as soon as he did his original move from reporter to head cheese I asked him if I could write some articles. Since then I have had multiple columns and singular articles on all three sites. Lately, I have been doing more with www.PWIpop.com than anything else. This leads me back to my issue at hand.

I write for Dave for two reasons. I love wrestling and I love writing articles. I have kept writing for Dave because of two other reasons: Dave treats me well and is open minded to all of my suggestions and theories. That holds true with Mike and Buck as well. You must understand, my loyal Spotlighters, I do this for free. All of us do except Mike, Buck and Dave (this is my knowledge, I may be wrong). And let’s be honest, I have no idea what types of family situations that they have or what kind of money they make, they may even have other jobs, but the bottom line is that they may not make that much and what they do make is important to them and their families, of that I am sure.

And this is where I find trouble. For someone to go and read an article of Mike’s or Dave’s and then take it and post it elsewhere is just a plain bunch of crap. It is stealing, point blank. Would you go to a painter’s house and steal his most famous painting? Would you sneak into Mick Jagger’s library and steal his microphone? How about getting into Vince McMahons’s jet and stealing the creative sheets from his daily meetings (Okay, about that last one, I actually might do that just so I could take them home, re write them, actually make a good wrestling show and then put them back where he found them as if they were never taken, changing the way of RAW for the rest of eternity – but seriously that is just smart thinking and would be termed borrowing, not stealing)? Really folks, who gives you the right?

Moreover, I know for fact people have actually taken my Spotlight and Tag Team Weekly articles, renamed them, made them anonymous and posted them. I GET NO MONEY FROM THESE ARTICLES!!! WHY SHOULD YOU???!!! This really hit home with me as you can tell.

This is Dave, Mike and Buck's passion, their business and less their families, their everything. So I really hope you steal-thief’s are reading this, I hope you steal it, I hope you post it – WITHOUT MY OR DAVE’S PERMISSION – and I hope he catches you and nails you to the wall, cause you deserve only that. The truth is, I think if Mike, Buck and Dave were well off and making enough money, they would pay all of us weekly columnists. God knows I have the background: B.A. in communications with a film history and journalism degree, actual paid articles in other magazine forms, 10+ years experience, 20 years watching wrestling – my resume might not be as great as most, but it would do just fine if I wanted a job in this field (which I do want eventually but I am currently in other employment).

People need to play by the rules – ALL OF THEM and stop messin’ around behind people’s backs – enjoy your writing – make it better. Find your stories. How many calls do you think the PWInsier triad of power make a day to find out about house shows, insider details, RAW, ECW, TNA, SMACKDOWN, ROH, Independent circuits, ratings, injuries, and whatever else comes up in our wrestling universe. Imagine the immense undertaking that must be for three loyal wrestling fans turned article writers, turned website runners. It has to be on a scale most of us couldn’t dream of. They do this for the love of the game and so should you

Be good people, and good things will happen to you….
