PREVIEWING THE SHO XC: REIS VS. CULLUM PRELIMINARY CARD
By David Tees on 9/25/2008 11:12 AM
Sho XC Lightweight Division Fight
Eric “Slash” Franco (0-0-0) vs. Michael Gahan (0-0-0)
Although little will be known about both fighters until their first MMA fights are said and done with, what a pressure packed situation it must be to make your pro debut on a Sho XC card. Eric Franco has won amateur grappling contest before entering MMA, so he will probably be looking to put this fight on the ground.
My Prediction: Eric Franco
Sho XC Welterweight Division Fight
Devin Howard (1-1-0) vs. Luke Riddering (1-0-0)
With only two professional fights under his belt, Devin Howard is a Sho XC veteran, having fought both of his career fights in Sho XC. In his first fight, Devin Howard defeated Mark Kempthorne by submission while losing to Lucas Gamaza by decision. In an interesting side note, those fights took place within a two week span from March 2008 to April 2008 for Devin Howard. Devin Howard will be looking to put this fight on the ground, where he gained his only career victory by submission. Luke Riddering is an undefeated fighter who has had his only career fight in Sho XC, defeating Yasser Pezzat by knockout. Luke Riddering will be looking to use his striking ability to gain his next victory, which is how he gained his first career victory.
My Prediction: Luke Riddering
Sho XC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Paul Arras (4-1-0) vs. Mono Otero (3-2-0)
Paul Arras started off his career in impressive fashion by defeating Andrew Burley, Jeff Clark, Greg Leinan and Brian Warren before suffering his only career loss to Reggie Orr. Besides one fight in his career, Paul Arras has competed primarily in the King Of The Cage promotion, amassing a record of three wins and one loss in the promotion. Paul Arras is a knockout specialist who has had all five of his professional fights end within the opening round. Mono Otero has fought primarily in the Desert Extreme promotion, with only one career fight occurring in the King Of The Cage promotion. Just like his opponent Paul Arras, Mono Otero has had all of his fights end within the opening round, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Mono Otero is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight standing or on the ground, with all of his career victories coming by knockout and submission.
My Prediction: Paul Arras
Sho XC Welterweight Division Fight
Steve Gable (2-0-0) vs. Josh McDonald (3-3-0)
Steve Gable is an undefeated Sho XC veteran who holds victories over Eric Jones and Vitor Pimenta, all in this fighters rookie year. Steve Gable has had both of his fights end within the opening round, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Steve Gable is a fighter who is comfortable with the fight on the ground or on the feet, with both of his victories coming by knockout and submission. Josh McDonald is known as an inconsistent fighter who has yet to either string two wins or two losses in a row after competing in six professional fights. Despite only fighting six times, Josh McDonald has competed in such promotions as World Extreme Cagefighting, Rumble On The Rock and Cage Combat Fighting Championships. Josh McDonald has achieved all three of his victories by decision, which shows that he does have the durability to take a fight the distance.
My Prediction: Steve Gable
Sho XC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Scott Lighty (3-0-0) vs. Jamiah Williamson (3-0-0)
Scott Lighty is an undefeated fighter who has fought in both the Pure Combat and Palace Fighting Championships promotions. Besides the decision victory over Kawika Morton in August 2008, Scott Lighty’s other two fights ended in the opening round. Scott Lighty has proven to be a versatile fighter having achieved his three victories by knockout, submission and decision. Also an undefeated fighter, Jamiah Williamson has fought in the Valor Fighting Championships and Kauai Cage Match promotions. It has been more than a year since Jamiah Williamson last fought, which was a decision victory over Tesai Seamster in March 2007. Jamiah Williamson will be looking to gain this victory with his striking skills, which have helped him earn two knockout victories in the past.
My Prediction: Scott Lighty
