I start this week with a sad note. It has been reported on the IWA-PR website
that second generation talent and former IWA Intercontinental
champion "Magnificent" Chris (Christian Martinez) was found dead and had been in
the Forensic Institute of Puerto Rico for the past two weeks as when he was
found there was no identification on him. It has been said that the cause of
death was a respiratory failure. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris'
family and friends. Chris was the son of Dominican wrestling legend Domingo "Maravilla"
Martinez, who passed away on November of last year.

IWA-PR held their weekly house show/TV taping in Levittown, PR. Here are the

8. #1 Contender's match - Chicano defeated Joe Bravo via DQ after IWA champion
came in and hit Chicano with a chairshot.
9. Panama's RXW World title match - Bison Smith defeated Savio Vega via DQ after
Vega's stable "Los Autenticos" interfered.
- This weekend they are back in Levittown, PR to tape their go home show before
their next event "Golpe de Estado" which will take place next weekend in Bayamon,
PR. So far it has been announced that there will be a #1 contender rematch
between Chicano and Joe Bravo. Click
here to see the rest of the talent that has been announced for the card.
- It seems Savio Vega will not be present at this weeks taping. He has been
announced as appearing at the "Signamania III" event in Fairless Hills, PA. You
can check out the line-up of stars and legends for this show by clicking
here.
- On their website, IWA has made two announcements. The first one is that the
negotiations with the former "World Champion" have been successfully completed.
Also, they are in conversations with another former champion. More information
about who it is they are talking about should be shared this weekend on their TV
show. I was going to put the names that I had been given of who they are, but
just about the time I was typing the column I received a call from a very
reliable source telling me that the names I had were not the ones. So in all
fairness, I will keep the names to myself for now and will disclose them later
after I get confirmation. The second announcement is that they have also
finalized negotiations with a "wrestling legend" to come to IWA. I have the
name of the legend but I have not confirm with anyone in IWA as of yet. This
legend has worked with WWC but recently has been out of the picture;
and although he was expected to make some sort of appearance this past weekend
at WWC's "Septiembre Negro" (Black September), which was his brainchild, he did
not show up at the event.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WWC held their event "Septiembre Negro" (Black September) in Bayamon, PR. Here
are the quick results from the event:
1. Rico Suave & "The Man-Beast" Angel defeated Mr. X & Johnny Styles
2. Bad Boy Bradley defeated "Hombre de la Mascara" with help from Profe
and Ricky "Mini Profe" Rubio
3. WWC Puerto Rico title Match
Tommy Diablo vs B.J. went to the five minute time limit, which was the
stipulation for the match
4. Huracan Castillo vs Charles "Hammer" Evans went to double DQ
5. "King of Old School" Steve Corino defeated Sabu
Ray Gonzalez and Jose Chaparro came out to do their live version of the segment
"Ray-Tings Cafe". Their very special guests
were..............................................................................................
WWC's President Victor Jovica and two representatives from the "PR Boxing &
Wrestling Commission". Their big news???? Wait for it... wait for it.... From
next week on any wrestler that throws someone over the top rope to the floor
will be DQ'd, as well as if anyone who low-blows their opponent. (Hmmmmm... I
am not kidding... Although I wish I was.)
6. WWC Tag Team title match
"Renegados del Infierno" (Hell's Renegades) w/ Chicky Starr defeated Thunder &
Lightning to become the new Tag champions.
7. WWC Universal title Match
Ray Gonzalez defeated "Glamour Boy" Shane to become the new Universal champion.
If you want to see pictures from the event, you may do so by clicking
here.
- This weekend they have announced cards in Ponce (Friday), Cayey (Saturday) and
in Aguadilla (Sunday). A few of the matches announced for this Saturday are:
"Hombre de la Mascara" vs Steve Corino; Huracan Castillo vs Charles "Hammer"
Evans in a grudge match; WWC Tag Team title rematch between "Renegados del
Infierno" w/ Chicky Starr and Thunder & Lightning. Also being advertised
are Rico Suave, B.J., Tommy Diablo, "The Man-Beast" Angel and amongst others.
- If you noticed, the new WWC Universal champion Ray Gonzalez is not being
advertised for this weekend. Sources close to the situation tell me that he is
taking an "impromptu" mini vacation (???) this week, but should be back
next week for the upcoming shows.
- Speaking of the new WWC Universal champion, Gonzalez was handed the old
Universal title belt after his victory last Saturday night. This is the same
belt that was presented to Carlos Colon Sr during his retirement ceremony at
Anniversary 2008 a couple months ago. For those of you have asked me, Noriega
still has possession of the new Universal title belt, which made its debut at
the same Anniversary show this year. It has been rumored and reported that WWC
still has a debt with Noriega and that is why he has not returned the belt to
the company. The amount that is allegedly owed to Noriega has been said to be
close to $3,000, and he has stated on several interviews that he will return the
belt as soon as they pay him the alleged money that is owed. [JMP
Note: As I have commented on past columns, I still can not understand how it is
that WWC can find money to pay for international talent to come work in the
island and not find the money to pay the local talent that are there week in and
week out busting their butts to give the fans a good show. Again, do not
misunderstand the message, as I am in no way, shape or form chastising talent
like Steve Corino, Sabu, Shane Sewell or Charles Evans. These workers come to
the island, perform and get paid as they very well should. But my problem with
that is that the local talent also works on the same shows and performs for the
same audience... shouldn't they get paid too?? Maybe I'm wrong here, but logic
usually is not.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wrestlevent Entertainment was forced to cancel their scheduled show in Yabucoa,
PR due to the bad weather that was over the island during Sunday and the
beginning of this week. Over 24 inches of rain came down on the island causing
major flooding in the East coast, as well as in the South-Southwest regions.
They are scheduled to be back in action the second week of October. We will
have more details on their event as they become available.

PRWA held their annual event "Purgatory" last Saturday in Barranquitas, PR. At
the event, Bolo "The Red Bulldog" defeated Erick Scorpion in a "barbwire

tournament. The qualifying matches were as follows: Jumping Jeff
Jeffrey defeated David Estilo; Silver Kid defeated Logan; "Sensational" Carlitos defeated
Brujo; Gansta' defeated Black Power; Dark Walker defeated "The Enigma" Hammet; and

winners the faced each other in battle royal with the ring surrounded by
barbwire. The winner of the match and first ever PRWA "Hexagon Champion" was
"Sensational" Carlitos.
