PREVIEWING THE ELITE XC: HEAT PRELIMINARY CARD

By David Tees on 10/3/2008 3:03 PM

Elite XC Welterweight Division Fight
Jorge Bouchat (3-2-0) vs. Nicolae Cury (0-0-0)

Despite fighting for nearly a decade, since 2001, Jorge Bouchat has only competed in five professional MMA fights. Also in another interesting note, Jorge Bouchat hasn’t fought in over a year, last losing to Mike Foster at a Reality Fighting Championship event. This instance will be the third time in his MMA career that Jorge Bouchat has taken a year or more off between MMA fights. Despite making his MMA debut in this fight, Nicolae Cury is an American Top Team instructor, which is one of the top fight teams in MMA today.

My Prediction: Nicolae Cury

Elite XC Welterweight Division Fight
David Gomez (0-2-0) vs. Brett Jackowski (1-0-0)

Despite the fact that David Gomez is winless thus far in his MMA career, the two fights thus far in his career took place within a week of each other. In his professional MMA debut, David Gomez lost to Andre Garcia by knockout, then lost to Tony Dalton by submission a week later. With a little more rest between this upcoming fight and his last fight, it will be interesting to see how it could effect the fight. Brett Jackowski is an undefeated fighter who got his only victory by defeating William Vivar by submission in December of last year. This could be a big opportunity fight for Brett Jackowski, who could use the victory to quickly move up the Elite XC Welterweight Division, which has been dominated since day one by Jake Shields.

My Prediction: Brett Jackowski

Elite XC Welterweight Division Fight
Lorenzo Borgomeo (4-0-0) vs. Mikey Gomez (8-4-0)

Lorenzo Borgomeo has fought previously in Elite XC, defeating Mike Bernhard by submission at Elite XC: Street Certified. Along with that victory, Lorenzo Borgomeo has defeated Messabili Fethi, Ed Castagluilo and Clifton Weston to remain undefeated. Lorenzo Borgomeo is a fighter known for finishing his fights, with none of his four professional fights ending before the third round. Lorenzo Borgomeo will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with three of four professional victories coming by way of submission. Mikey Gomez is a very underrated fighter who has fought top MMA athletes like Carlo Prater, Matt Brown and Jeremy May. Mikey Gomez has also fought previously in Elite XC, losing to Eric Bradley by decision at Elite XC: Street Certified. Mikey Gomez will be able to match the ground skills of Lorenzo Borgomeo with six of his eight career victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Lorenzo Borgomeo

Elite XC Heavyweight Division Fight
“The Silverback” Seth Petruzelli (9-4-0) vs. Aaron Rosa (11-2-0)

With the current Elite XC Heavyweight Title situation in jeopardy, the winner of this fight between Seth Petruzelli and Aaron Rosa could play a factor in the divisions future. Seth Petruzelli may be remembered by most MMA fans for his run as a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 2. Seth Petruzelli has fought an impressive list of MMA fighters like Dan Severn, Gan McGee, Mario Neto, Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia. Seth Petruzelli will be looking to keep the fight on the fight, with eight of nine career victories coming by knockout. Aaron Rosa is a fighter who kicked off his MMA career in impressive fashion with ten straight MMA victories, before suffering his first career loss to Jared Hamman in October 2007. After suffering two straight losses, Aaron Rosa rebounded by defeating Ron Fields at the debut event for Adrenaline MMA. Aaron Rosa will be looking to match the striking skills of Seth Petruzelli, with five of eleven MMA victories coming by way of knockout.

My Prediction: Seth Petruzelli

Elite XC Lightweight Division Fight
James Edson “Little Tiger” Berto (14-5-1) vs. Conor Heun (7-2-0)

With the recent controversy surrounding Elite XC, KJ Noons and the Elite XC Lightweight Title, this fight could go a long way in determining a new champion or top contender. James Edson Berto is an Elite XC/Sho XC veteran who has defeated John Shackleford and Victor Valenzuela, while losing to KJ Noons and Yves Edwards in Elite XC/Sho XC competition. James Edson Berto is also a mainstay of the Reality Fighting Championships promotion, where he has gone undefeated in the promotion with ten victories. James Edson Berto is looking to be putting this fight on the ground, with eight of fourteen victories coming by way of submission. Conor Heun is a fighter who has yet to breakthrough into the MMA elite, despite having fought in promotions like Sho XC and the International Fight League. Conor Heun is currently on a two fight winning streak with victories over Noah Shinable and Marlon Matias. Like James Edson Berto, Conor Heun will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with five of seven victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: James Edson Berto

Elite XC Women’s 140lb. Division Fight
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (5-1-0) vs. Yoko Takahashi (13-9-0)

This fight could become one of two fights that could potentially set up one of the biggest women’s MMA fights ever and it initially depends on how Cristiane Santos performs. Despite in competing in only six professional MMA fights, Cristiane Santos has been considered to be one of the top female competitors in MMA today. Prior to coming to Elite XC, Cristiane Santos was a dominant fighter in the Storm Samurai promotion by defeating Vanessa Porto, Chris Schroeder, Elaine Santiago and Marise Vitoria. Cristiane Santos then made her Elite XC debut at Elite XC: Unfinished Business, where she convincingly defeated Shayna Baszler by knockout in the second round. Cristiane Santos is known for her striking abilities, which has given her four career victories by ay of knockout. Yoko Takahashi is one of the top international MMA fighters, having competed in promotions like Smackgirl, DEEP and G-Shooto. It has been more than a year since Yoko Takahashi last competed, which was a loss to Hiroko Hiroko at Smackgirl in September 2007.. Unlike Cristiane Santos, Yoko Takahashi will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with nine career victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Cristiane Santos
