SPOTLIGHT: CYBER SUNDAY

By Joel C Croyle on 10/25/2008 9:43 AM

I’ll be honest Spotlighters. I won’t be watching come this Sunday at Cyber Sunday. I tend to get the big four PPV’s when all is said and done and with Survivor Series around the corner, CS just doesn’t interest me enough to buy. But there are a few interesting match ups. Let’s take a look at the best and worst things that could happen at the event. I don’t think a single title will change hands at this PPV, or any angle will play out…I hope WWE proves me wrong.

ECW Title Match

The Best that could happen: Evan Bourne gets a title shot moving him up into the title picture and main events or lands him a gig on RAW or Smackdown. He deserves it. He is a really hot prospect right now. But Evan doesn’t need to win for this to happen; he just needs a great push. Matt can retain, all is well in the world.

The Worst that could happen: Henry gets another title shot. It isn’t that Henry and Matt haven’t had a great feud or that this is the best Mark Henry has been in his entire career. Both these things are true. But for this feud to catch fire again mark needs the title around his waist. This one needs to be a slow burn, and I like the idea of Henry having a group against Hardy’s group at Survivor Series…that’s when they need to turn the corner on this one

Middle of the Road: Finlay vs. Matt Hardy would be good. Possibly even a show stealer. But there needs to be more built for a feud/big match between the wile veteran and Matt Hardy version 2..5

Pick The Tag Team Match:

Note: I don’t like this idea at all. It basically reminds me of high school politics – whoever is more popular wins…plus the tag division needs steam and to build steam we need title matches. This doesn’t work on any levels for me.

The Best: Regal and lady vs. Noble and Lady. I think this is the best possible match up as it carries the best workers involved in this tag team thing. Regal’s partner will have her hands full with James but I would put the Englishman over here for sure – it’s best for business

The Worst: Cryme Tyme vs. Miz and Morrison. Would they put on a great match? Absolutely. Will it tell a story? Definitely. Have I seen it for free a zillion times? Uh-huh.

Middle: Priceless vs. Punk and Kofi would be an entertaining bout but it means nothing. Especially if they aren’t pulling the trigger on the “2nd generation” deal.

United States Championship Match (Free on WWE.com)

Note: Why dear WWE would you do this. The best workers on your Smackdown brand and possibly the company are in this feud over the US Title and you give it away free? Why do it at all. It has had a tremendous build.

The Best: Shelton vs. Festus would be my choice. The comedy in this match would be great and it would shine a light on the big man who needs a singular shone upon him. The other great thing here is that if Festus gets the nod the WWE can have Shelton retain via MVP and no one looses face. Porter can come down, distract Festus, R-Truth can try and save it, and MVP outsmarts them all, keeps the belt on Shelton for his own destiny and then wallops Shelton in the process. Or Festus can win the title and make it mean something again.

The Worst: MVP vs. Shelton would not be good here. They are both talented and deserve a lead in to this match and for it to be bought not given away for free.

Middle of the Road: Unless they were to put it on Truth it would be pointless and they won’t.

Halloween Diva Contest:

The Best: Okay, I get to be sexist for just a second – the only outcome I want to see is all of the Divas omnipotent-ly decides that the best costume would be their birthday suit – I guarantee I would by this already forgettable PPV then.

Intercontinental Title

The Best: Would honestly be probably if they just skipped this thing. It isn’t going to be pretty out there no matter what – but it may be comical. I’d really like to see Dustin Rhodes back again with WWE. It should be full time and they should develop a story line around him and his brother/father. I also think Goldie would match up best with Santino

Middle to Worst: Either Piper or Honky aren’t going to do much here – though the WWE just might put the title on the guitar swinging icon if he won…it be funny for a half second.

Kane vs. Rey

The Best: Falls Count anywhere, 2 of 3, No Hold Barred….is there a difference? The best thing that could happen is for Rey to win this thing and be done with this inane feud.

The Worst: Kane wins and it continues.

Middle of the Road: Double Pinfall – we have no winner and it continues.

Undertaker vs. Big Show

The Best: Would be a last man standing match. It would give these two vets more time and more fun. I think they can really work well together and have for years. I’d like to see an anything goes style and this lead to whoever wins working vs. HHH at Survivor Series. It would be best of Show won.

The Worst: Knockout Match just doesn’t ring well in an “entertainment”…I mean wrestling ring. I don’t like the idea of a punch ending a match – and didn’t Show go back to wrestling after considering boxing?

Middle of the Road: I quit would be interesting if the stip actually meant one would retire. But it doesn’t in this case so it would be a throw away match.

World Heavyweight Title

The Best: Randy Orton as ref. Chris Jericho beats Batista cheating and we get 8 more months of Jericho doing what he does best…making the title matter, helping others rise, playing the ultimate heel.

The Worst: Michaels wins the vote and screws Jericho out of the title and gives it to Batista who he equally hates supposedly on our screen.

Middle: Stone Cold wins and stuns both of them into a no decision.

WWE Championship

The Best: Jeff Hardy vs. HHH solo and Hardy finally wins the big one. I realize there isn’t much chance for that last bit where Hardy wins due to internal issues with WWE but seriously, let’s pull the trigger. You can take the title off him the next Friday night on Smackdown…just give the man the tag line “Jeff Hardy, former WWE champion”…he deserves that much – hell, Kane is, right?

The Worst: Vladimir vs. Hardy vs. HHH just screams train wreck to me. There will be no sizzle here and too much going on or Vlad doing nothing for 20 minutes while hardy and HHH light it up due to ego.

The middle: Vladimir vs. HHH one on one. I wouldn’t mind seeing this. HHH can make anyone look good one on one.
