PREVIEWING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER 8 FINALE PRELIMINARY CARD

By David Tees on 12/11/2008 9:38 AM

UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Rolando “The Crazy Cuban” Delgado (5-3-1) vs. John “Buckets Of Blood” Podlodowski (2-1-0)

Rolando Delgado started off his MMA career in hazardous fashion, with a record of one win and three losses in his first four professional fights. Early in his career, Rolando Delgado fought and lost to UFC veteran Joe Jordan at a Tennessee Shooto event in 2003. After starting off his career in unimpressive fashion, Rolando Delgado has won four of his last five fights and hasn’t suffered a loss in the last five years. Rolando Delgado will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with three victories coming by way of submission. John Polakowski has had an interesting career thus far in MMA because he has fought the same opponent in the same promotion in all three of his professional fights. That opponent was Olaf Alfonso and those three encounters took place in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion. John Polakowski will be looking to use his striking skills to gain a victory, with one prior victory coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Rolando Delgado

UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Shane Nelson (10-3-0) vs. George Roop (8-3-0)

Shane Nelson is a longtime veteran of the Rumble On The Rock promotion, where he has fought seven of thirteen career fights. Shane Nelson has also fought against top MMA prospect Kaleo Kwan, defeating him twice in the Punishment In Paradise and X-1 promotions. Shane Nelson is currently riding a six fight winning streak, suffering his last loss in March of 2006 to Jamal Perkins. Shane Nelson will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with three previous victories coming by submission. George Roop is a veteran of the Rage In The Cage promotion, where all but two fights in his professional career took place in. In the Rage In The Cage promotion, George Roop amassed a record of six victories with three total losses. George Roop is currently on a three fight winning streak, with his last loss occurring in June 2007 to Austin Pascucci.

My Prediction: Shane Nelson

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Kyle “Kingsbu” Kingsbury (7-1-0-1NC) vs. Tom “The Filthy Mauler” Lawlor (4-1-0-1NC)

Kyle Kingsbury has only fought in two MMA promotions thus far in his career, the Rage In The Cage and King Of The Cage promotions. Kyle Kingsbury started off his MMA career with a seven fight undefeated streak before losing his only career fight to Tony Lopez at King Of The Cage: River Rage. When Kyle Kingsbury steps in to the octagon on Saturday Night, it will be his first fight in over a year, so conditioning may play a factor in the fight.. Kyle Kingsbury is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with five career victories coming by knockout or submission. Tom Lawlor has an interesting claim to fame thus far in his MMA career, with all six of his professional fights ending within the first round. Tom Lawlor has fought a few fights in the Full Force Productions promotion, where he holds victories over Cesar Barros and Travis Bartlett. Tom Lawlor is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with all four victories coming by knockout or submission.

My Prediction: Kyle Kingsbury

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Eliot Marshall (5-1-0) vs. Jules Bruchez (0-0-0)

Eliot Marshall has fought all six professional MMA fights in the Ring Of Fire promotion and suffered his only career loss to UFC veteran Rob MacDonald. Of his six professional fights, none have ended by submission, which speaks to Eliot Marshall’s finishing ability. It has also been nearly a year since Eliot Marshall last competed, so conditioning could play a factor in this fight. Eliot Marshall will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with four prior victories coming by submission. This will be the professional MMA debut for Jules Bruchez, so his lack of experience will play a factor in this fight.

My Prediction: Eliot Marshall

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
“The Polish Experiment” Krzysztof Soszynski (15-8-1) vs. Shane Primm (1-0-0)

Krzysztof Soszynski was the early pick to win the whole light heavyweight competition on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, but fell short on that goal. Krzysztof Soszynski has fought a top notch group of MMA fighters like Matt Horwich, Mike Kyle, Ben Rothwell, Tom Howard, Mike Whitehead, Reese Andy, Dan Christison and Marcus Hicks. Krzysztof Soszynski has also fought in top promotions like HDNet Fights, Strikeforce and the International Fight League. Krzysztof Soszynski is currently riding a three fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to Ben Rothwell in August 2007. Krzysztof Soszynski is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with twelve victories coming by knockout or submission. When compared to Krzysztof Soszynski, Shane Primm is a vastly inexperienced fighter who has only competed in one professional fight. That one professional fight was a victory over Tom Lawlor at a World Fighting Championships event earlier this year. The aforementioned lack of experience could be the immediate downfall of the newcomer, Shane Primm.

My Prediction: Krzysztof Soszynski
