Zach's How To Guide

Chapter 6 – How to Create the Ultimate Year End Clip Show

Hi everybody and welcome back to Zach's How To Guide. A happy holidays to all you wrestling fans.

So for this week's column, I wanted to make an end of the year clip show for wrestling incorporating WWE and TNA. Here are my rules.

Rule #1 – The matches must take place on either Raw, Smackdown, ECW, or Impact. I figure there are about 50 shows per year for each, and it takes a special match to stand out on one of those shows for the end of the year.

Rule #2 – Only one wrestler's match for the year can be chosen, excluding segments. There are about 200 wrestlers who can be chosen for this massive clip show. Let's share the wealth.

Rule #3 – The show is only three hours long, so I have only selected three matches from each of the four aforementioned shows.

Alright, so here we go. For the first time ever, Spike and USA agree to co-broadcast the show, kind of like when Vince bought Nitro and USA and TNT aired the same thing simultaneously. Show takes place next Wednesday. Lets kick this puppy off…

Match 1 – RAW 11/3: DX vs. Miz and Morrison

Selected because of DX's pre-match skit, which was one of their best in a long time, Morrison's transformation into HBK, and just because it's a solid overall match between two really good tag teams.

Match 2 – ECW 10/14: Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer

Selected because it was a great extreme rules match and gave a solid rub to Swagger who looks to be one of the big stars for the WWE in 2009.

Match 3 – TNA 6/12: Samoa Joe vs. Kaz

Selected because the two really complemented each other wrestling-wise and mapped out one hell of a match. Shame Kaz has to hide behind such a ridiculous get up now.

Match 4 – Smackdown: 5/2 Matt Hardy vs. MVP

Selected because it was the final match in what might have been one of the best feuds in the WWE in about five years.

Match 5 – RAW 11/3: Batista vs. Chris Jericho

Selected because it was one of the more innovative cage matches the WWE has put on in quite some time.

Match 6 – ECW 10/14: Chavo Guerrero vs. Evan Bourne

Selected because it was an amazing match. Plain and simple. If you have not seen this match, go out of your way and try to find it. I think it's Bourne's best match in a banner year for the young man.

Match 7 – TNA 6/12: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Speed Muscle

Selected because it was the best cruiserweight match this year, bar none. Just an amazing, fast paced match with all four superstars involved. Lets hope TNA pushes the Guns some more in 09.

Match 8 – Smackdown 1/4: Rey Mysterio vs. Edge

Selected because it was a neat match right before the Royal Rumble. I felt like this was when Edge was hitting his stride as the heel champ on Smackdown, and it was the beginning of the pretty cool La Familia group.

Match 9 – Raw 1/7: Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga

Selected because of the awesome Whisper in the Wind Hardy hit off the top of the cage, and also because of the performance of the underrated Samoan Bulldozer.

Match 10 – ECW 2/19: CM Punk & Ric Flair vs. Elijah Burke & Shelton Benjamin

Selected because you could see how much fun all four competitors are having, especially this little piece of the action where Burke performed Flair's old routine of gouging the eyes of getting thrown off the top rope.

Match 11 – TNA 8/21: Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong

Selected because it was Kim's swan song from TNA, and her and Kong put on one hell of a match. Kong gets my vote for women's wrestler of the year. Good thing she's not in WWE or I feel like they'd have her date Umaga.

Match 12 – Smackdown: 12/5 – Undertaker vs. Big Show (Cage)

Selected because the two had a solid feud this year and this was a nice cap to the big man's contest.

Phew, hope you got all that. So the show will air segments of all twelve matches so it fits in to the 3 hour show. I also will show the following clips which I felt were some of the best of the year…

Segment 1 – Smackdown 8/29 – Kendrick reads a passage from "The Art of War" with Ezekial Jackson sitting behind him reading Cat in the Hat

Segment 2 – TNA 10/23 – Kurt Angle announces the formation of the Main Event Mafia

Segment 3 – ECW 1/29 - CM Punk 'El Kabong's' Chavo with a guitar during his fiesta

Segment 4 – RAW 3/31 To close my show, Ric Flair's retirement ceremony gets aired in it's entirety

So I think I included everyone big this year. If you think I left someone out, had a better match to put in, or agreed with the choices, please shoot me an email at zachlevine86@gmail.com. Thanks for reading and have a happy new year. Tune in next time for Chapter 7: How to book the 2009 Royal Rumble Match.
