Tyler Black Betrayed
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Saturday night could very well stand as the biggest moment in Tyler Black’s ROH career thus far. He’s had title shots on two occasions (“Take No Prisoners†and “Death Before Dishonor VIâ€), main evented Pay Per Views, and fought in Japan for the first time ever. He’s been an ROH Tag Team champion on two occasions, and competed against the best talent the world has to offer, but December 27th may still go down as the biggest turning point in his young life.
Since ROH was first introduced to Black at “Man Up†in September of 2007, he has been a member of The Age of The Fall alongside Jimmy Jacobs. They have been accompanied by several other people in the last 15 months; including The Necro Butcher, Lacey, Joey Matthews, and Brodie Lee among others, but those two made up the core of the AOTF.
In that time they have waged bloody war against the Briscoes, against Austin Aries, against Kevin Steen & El Generico, and even against The Necro Butcher when he finally elected to stand on his own. They have stood together in Ultimate Endurance and Steel Cage Warfare matches, and attempted to lay waste to the foundation of Ring of Honor. And in one night, it all came to a screeching halt. Jacobs turned his back on Black, kicked him in the groin after verbally blasting him, beat Tyler down alongside Aries, and left him a bloody mess. It was shocking, but maybe not so much a surprise.
Maybe this wasn’t just one night, maybe it was the culmination of something building within Jacobs for quite some time. It’s no secret that, in spite of his attitude, Black has slowly been winning over the ROH faithful with his spectacular in-ring performances. He’s proven that, not only can he hang with the best in the world, but he IS one of the best in the world. It has become more commonplace to hear the fans chanting his name, cheering his matches, and lamenting his losses. Maybe this has vexed Jacobs.
Maybe it’s simply Jimmy not taking responsibility for his own failure at “Rising Above 2008†against Aries in the “I Quit†match. Maybe he’s still blaming Tyler for those two words escaping his lips. After all, Black wasn’t there to throw in the towel, forcing Jimmy to say the words. Maybe Black is simply the target of Jacobs’ frustration in general. He lost Lacey, he lost the tag titles, he failed to regain them on multiple occasions, he failed in his bid for the ROH World Title, and in the midst of it all, his “friend†has risen to the upper echelon of ROH in the eyes of the fans. He has become loved, embraced, and maybe…just maybe….that was too much for Jacobs.
Answers haven’t been forthcoming from Jacobs, but that’s of little
surprise. As we understand, Tyler had few words for Jacobs in an upcoming ROH
Videowire. But, as made official in the 12/30 Newswire, Jacobs will face the
music on January 17th in Edison, NJ. At the Inman Sports Center,
Tyler Black will go one-on-one with his supposed “friendâ€, and if no questions
are answered before that time, it’s a safe bet that Tyler will do his level best
to beat the answers out of Jacobs.

New Year’s Resolutions
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
So in the tradition of previous years, ROHWrestling.com took a few minutes to ask the athletes of the ROH locker room what they had on tap for 2009. If they had a New Year’s resolution they wanted to share with the rest of the world. Some were happy to share, some weren’t interested, and one man …well one man just decided to physically throw Kyle Durden out of his dressing room as you will see in an ROH Videowire in the coming weeks. As for the rest, here’s what they had to say:
Grizzly Redwood: “I resolve to find the biggest tree out there…whether a California Redwood, or a mighty Oak…and make it into my next log cabin! I got the brand new axe I asked Santa for, I got it sharpened up, and now I’m ready to get to work!â€
“Sugarfoot†Alex Payne: “My resolution is simple. To become the best wrestler I can be, to make myself a regular on ROH pay per views, and to maybe, just maybe get Claudio back after he tried to crush my head in Chicago.â€
“Addicted to Love†Rhett Titus: “My resolution brother? My resolution? I’m gonna kick Necro’s teeth in is what I’m gonna do brother. Brother, I’m gonna love the ladies in every city I go to, and see the insides of every hotel room there is. Virgin? Rhett Titus is as much as virgin as Jenna Jameson brother!â€
Daizee Haze: “I resolve to help Delirious find his way back, to get him away from Jimmy Jacobs, and I resolve to make Jacobs pay for warping his mind.â€
Bryan Danielson: “Resolutions, resolutions? What are my resolutions? To become ROH World champion once again. To continue showing everyone why I am the BEST wrestler in the world. Oh, and to train harder than ever in pursuit of that goal. 2009 will see me doing whatever I need to do in order to keep getting better inside that ring.â€
Larry Sweeney: “My resolution? My resolution, my resolution, my resolution…my resolution is THIS! To ERADICATE Brent Albright, Erick Stevens, and Roderick Strong from existence! To make as MUCH money as possible for my contracted talent, as well as myself! To control ALL THE TALENT in ROH, or put them out of action.â€
Jay Briscoe: “Resolutions? Man, my resolution is an easy one. To kick ass, drink beer, and win back those ROH tag titles as soon as my brother is back in action. I got my sights on you Wolves…all Sweeney’s boys…I’m comin.â€
Nigel McGuinness: “My resolution mate? I’ll give you a resolution ya
bleedin’ wanker†(Nigel proceeded to give our interviewer his two finger salute
and walk away laughing)
Kevin Steen: “Resolutions? To prove we are the best tag team in ROH history, to
break the record for longest reign, to beat every challenger coming our way. To
take the American Wolves OUT! And to maybe…MAYBE…teach Generico some English!
It’s been years and he still doesn’t get it.â€
Well, that’s a sample of the resolutions we received. Claudio’s you will be able to see in an upcoming Videowire…suffice to say, Kyle Durden wasn’t very lucky with getting Castagnoli’s response.
Let us take this time to say thank you to all of the ROH fans out there for your continued support of the company, your continued desire to help us grow, and your tremendous efforts in helping to spread the word about the company. It has been a tremendous 2008, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you! And that is why ROH resolves in 2009 to continue bringing its fans the greatest wrestling on the face of the Earth!!

A New #1 Contender
Monday, December 29, 2008
The rivalry between Austin Aries and the Age of the Fall has been well documented. Bloody matches, broken hearts, and battered bodies have been left in the wake of their feud, and it all came to a shocking head Saturday night in New York City.
After exchanging victories over one another, Aries challenged Tyler Black to a rematch and, once official, it was announced as a #1 Contender’s Match. Black and Aries both came to NYC with a sense of purpose and determination, and the ensuing battle was exactly the hard hitting, classic contest one would expect. Aries unloaded everything he had, but Black refused to relent, and it was obvious the crowd didn’t want him to lose either.
Black finally mounted a comeback, and just when it seemed he had the match in the palm of his hand, Jimmy Jacobs made his way to the ringside area, providing enough of a distraction for Aries to take control and secure not only the win, but his shot at the ROH World Title.
Shockingly, Jacobs verbally berated Black in the center of the ring, doing his best to humiliate him in front of ROH’s largest audience in history. Black would have none of it, shoving Jacobs to the mat, and yelling right back. Jacobs begged off, doing his best to make peace in the moment, right before kicking his partner square in the groin!
Jacobs locked on his guillotine choke until Black was unconscious, grabbed a chair from ringside, wrapped it around Black’s neck, and began to climb the ropes. Aries rushed back to the ring and took the chair from around Black’s neck, seemingly to ward off the imminent damage from Jacobs. But then, to the shock of everyone in attendance, Aries wheeled around and leveled Tyler with a vicious chairshot! Just as shocked as those in attendance, Jacobs looked on in shock from the floor, eventually joining Aries in beating down Black. After a few minutes, Aries rolled out of the ring, leaving Jacobs standing over the broken body of his former ally.
So the question is now where does Aries stand? Was this a plan between Aries and Jacobs? Is that even fathomable after their bloody history? Or did Aries stand alone in this endeavor? ROH officials and ROHWrestling.com will do their best to get answers in the coming weeks, as none were forthcoming Saturday night in NYC.

December 30th: The Necro Butcher is coming off a tremendous performance in the highly anticipated film, “The Wrestlerâ€, as well as at Final Battle 2008, and now he continues his quest for revenge on the Age of the Fall. On 1/16 in Manassas, Necro will face Delirious one-on-one. This match has another subplot, as Daizee Haze as pegged Necro as the one that can help her deliver Delirious from the mind control that she claims Jimmy Jacobs has been able to maintain over him. Will Necro be able to get through to Delirious? Will Jimmy Jacobs have anything to do with this match? Will Daizee Haze interject? We’ll find out on 1/16!
December 30th: Damien Wayne and Chris Escobar are highly respected by their peers in the Mid-Atlantic region and have made strides as a tag team in FIP. Now they will face their biggest test as January 16 in Manassas brings them the challenge of Brent Albright and Erick Stevens. Albright and Stevens are fresh off a street fight victory in NYC, and are preparing for war inside the steel cage against Sweet-n-Sour Incorporated. If Wayne and Escobar can pull the upset, they’ll solidify their status in ROH for sure. Or did they simply take a payday from Larry Sweeney to soften up the enemy?
December 30th: Speaking of Larry Sweeney, ROH officials have been in talks with him in reference to the actions of the American Wolves this past weekend. The blatant interference is one of the biggest factors that prompted ROH President Cary Silkin to award the Steel Cage match to Albright and Company. But even this may not be enough, as rumor has it that ROH officials feel that Richards and Edwards may need to face some specific music for their high-profile part in the Sweet-n-Sour’s most recent transgressions. More on this as it develops.
December 30th: The End of Year Sale has been extended until Wednesday at noon EST. Don't miss your opportunity to save 35-40% Off your next order placed at www.rohwrestling.com. Details on the sale can be found here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1682.
December 30th: It didn’t take long for the match to get signed, and the dawn of a new day is upon us. On January 17 in Edison, the answers to many questions should be uncovered as Tyler Black has signed to face his former mentor and AOTF leader, the maniacal Jimmy Jacobs. The history between these two men is well documented. The end of their relations came on what is considered to be ROH’s biggest stage. The blood has to be boiling in both men. Both Tyler and Jacobs were contacted for comments. Both men declined.
December 30th: The DVD "Escalation" from Dayton, OH on November 21st is now in stock and available for immediate shipping. This event features Nigel McGuinness vs. Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries in a Non Title Three Way Match; Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli; Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious for the World Tag Team Titles. As a special bonus you can witness the Samoa Joe vs. Tyler Black match from Chicago Ridge, IL on 11/22/08.
December 30th: ROH officials have reached out to Austin Aries to see
when he wants to exercise his title shot, which he earned by defeating Tyler
Black in New York. ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness has stated that he’ll
accept the challenge whenever mandated by the ROH Booking Committee, but did
so with a bit of trepidation, as he questions Aries “mental stateâ€. ROH
Officials have also expressed concern, as Aries’ recent actions, both in and
out of the ring; have prompted many to raise issue. From the heated blood feud
with Jacobs, to the happenings this past Saturday in New York, and now with
Aries refusing all forms of contact from the ROH office, no one is quite sure
where Aries stands.
December 29th: Everyone at ROH sends a huge “thank you†to each and every fan
that has supported us throughout the past year. We look forward to 2009 and
entertaining you with what we believe is the best wrestling product in the
country.
December 29th: Everyone in the Hammerstein Ballroom stood in shock as Austin Aries did the unthinkable. Shortly after defeating Tyler Black and earning a championship match, he watched Jimmy Jacobs lock the End Time on the fallen Black. He followed that up by wrapping a chair around Tyler’s head and scaling the ropes, ostensibly to cripple Black. Aries charged the ring, in an apparent effort to stop Jacobs, but shattered that perception with a thunderous chairshot on Tyler as he struggled to get to his feet. Even Jacobs seemed stunned at the actions of Aries, but that didn’t stop him from joining in an impromptu beatdown of the bloodied Black. No one is sure how to react to these events, and Aries has refused all attempts to discuss the matter. Jimmy Jacobs was more forthcoming, but also guarded, saying, “And everyone thought that Aries won our feud.†Jacobs walked off with a sly smirk and refused further comment.
December 29th: Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves certainly left their
mark over the past weekend. The biggest of their “achievements†is undoubtedly
the knee injury they inflicted upon Mark Briscoe. As of this time, we are
uncertain just how long Mark will be out of action, but we do know that surgery
is required to repair the injury. Things could be worse for the Briscoes, and
ironically they could have their arch-rivals, Kevin Steen and El Generico, to
thank that things aren’t worse. It was Steen and Generico that stopped the
Wolves from going even further than they did, as Jay Briscoe could do nothing as
he was handcuffed to the ropes and forced to watch his brother endure the
torture commanded by Sweeney. We understand that comments from all parties are
forthcoming in upcoming ROH Video Wires.
December 29th: A gigantic End of Year Sale is currently ongoing where you can
save 35-40% Off your next order. Don't delay as this type of sale doesn't come
around often. For complete details on how to save, click here:
http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1682.
December 29th: We are happy to announce that Brent Albright, Roderick Strong, and Erick Stevens will all be on hand in Manassas and Edison over the January 16-17 weekend. These three are elated to have finally been granted the steel cage grudge war that they have been seeking against Sweet-n-Sour Incorporated. Albright pleaded with ROH President Cary Silkin for the match, stating that Sweeney and his men are “ruining the company that (Silkin) built.†ROH officials are currently trying to decide when this huge battle will take place, and we will bring you that announcement and any other news as soon as we have it.
December 29th: ROH Officials are unhappy that security crews had to become involved in the events in Philadelphia and New York. In both cases, security personnel performed wonderfully, removing those that decided to interject themselves into the action. Ring of Honor respectfully asks those that attend our events to please respect the boundaries set forth by our ring barricades. We ask this of everyone, whether it be a paying customer or a wealthy prince. Thank you for your attention.
December 29th: We’ll have the first match announcements for the ROH return to Manassas and Edison tomorrow in the Newswire.
