Well, it was another missed opportunity in my book by WWE, a perfectly great story that had all the surprises and build up to really score a homerun and they didn't go for it. I fell for it actually.....I honestly thought WWE had come up with a great swerve and I got excited and became a "mark" for about a minute and totally forgot all the bad storyline moves they had been making lately and I got excited about the product again (again, for about a minute)....and then it didn't happen......AGAIN!
What I'm referring to is the last segment of RAW. Randy Orton and the Legacy vs the McMahon family. Orton starts the show with his "apology" and threatens to sue if fired for punting McMahon.....great way to work this story. I give them kudos for coming up with this reasoning for him not being fired. Then at the end of the show, Stephanie comes out and says firing him would be too easy and Shane comes out.
I popped! I was pumped! I smelled heel turn the whole walk down and was waiting for Shane to turn on Steph and shake hands with Orton. It would've been perfect. Stephanie had told Shane weeks ago that it was her show and he quietly retreated. Then Dad comes back and says he's gonna run the show with Steph. This would have been all the fuel Shane needed to turn on the family and play the "Bischoff" role in the legacy.....
I mean, Shane IS a 3rd generation wrestling personality, he does have a reason to be upset at Steph & Vince and it would have added a whole new layer to the story. Add a 4th wrestling member to the Legacy and they would have a great story and faction. But weeks after Shane was talked down to by his little sister and run off the show, he comes back defending her and dear old Dad? He then is shown looking like a crazy person, even punching Kofi Kingston in the face!?!
I'm lost....so where do they take it from here?
A wrestling match with the #1 contender and Shane at No Way Out? Are Vince, Shane & Steph all going to be in John Cena's corner at Wrestlemania for the big match? What part of this story is going to sell? Cena is a tweener......the same amount of people adore him as despise him.
If WWE puts Cena into a program with Orton as it stands right now and no real big heel feelings towards Orton prior to Wrestlemania, the crowd will be split 50-50, guaranteed.
Sadly, another missed opportunity.
