Hey all and welcome back to Zach’s How To Guide. Every week I take a different thing in pro wrestling and look on how to improve it or build upon it. Topics have ranged from Christian coming to the WWE [still waiting] Gail Kim coming to the WWE [still waiting] and pushing Val Venis as a new character [future endeavored]. So my track record may not be top notch, but I enjoy writing about the sport I love so I’ll keep on keeping on.
Alright, on to this week’s subject - giving names to teams and finishers. As a lifelong wrestling fan, I always look for cool names for superstars and finishers. Nothing makes me angrier though when a superstar debuts, and it looks like he was plucked off an assembly line. Bland name, no finisher, and no name for a finisher. Hey creative, put some thought into a wrestler before you put him in front of millions […and millions!] of worldwide fans.
One thing TNA does well is give their characters names, along with names for all their finishers. Look at AJ, he has like four different original names for his moves. And look at their tag teams. The tag teams in TNA might have the best names around. Motor City Machine Guns, LAX, Beer Money Inc., I’ll even throw the Main Event Mafia in there. What is WWE’s take on tag teams? Look, its ____________ and __________. Tag Team Wrestling Rules!!!
Switching over to ROH for a second, as a wrestling fan who really only checks out what is on television, all I know about the company are what I read from websites. And I read that Nigel McGuiness has a finisher called the Tower of London and Danielson has a move called Cattle Mutilation. Awesome names ROH.
How do we know when the WWE debuts a talent without any idea what to do with them. Their finisher is a DDT. Remember when Carlito debuted a while back. He assaulted Cena and hit him with a DDT. It wasn’t until much later when he debuted the backstabber as his finisher. Cody Rhodes too, debuts with the DDT, moved to the Roll of the Dice [another tired finisher], and now he and Dibiase are using an elevated DDT.
My point is, if you want to use a character, use him right. There are certain stars in the WWE who need names for their finishers. But who will help them out? Well that’s where I hope all of you come in to help. I will list below ten superstars who I want to see get there image fixed. Please send all ideas to zachlevine86@gmail.com and I will be happy to write up a future column on the results. Here we go.
1. Name of DiBiase-Rhodes new finisher [elevated DDT].
2. Name of Jack Swagger’s finisher [gutwrench powerbomb].
3. Name of DJ Gabriel’s finisher [second rope uppercut].
4. Name and finisher for Santino Marella [Doesn’t have a finisher].
5. Name of R-Truth’s finisher [axe kick].
6. Name of Ezekial Jackson’s finisher [uranage].
7. Tag team name for The Miz and John Morrison
8. Tag team name for Matt Morgan and Abyss [broke up, but this is for fun]
9. Name of Vladimir Kozlov’s finisher [chokeslam thingy]
10. Name of John Cena’s former FU [Attitude Adjustment? Really? Really?]
Well can’t wait to hear from you all. Next week I will write up the results and have a brand new Zach’s How To Guide dealing with how a Rourke-Jericho match should have went down. Be well everybody.
