IWA MID-SOUTH IN JOLIET, IL LIVE REPORT AND THOUGHTS: AXL ROTTEN, IAN ROTTEN, TRIK DAVIS, EGO FANTASTICO AND MORE
By Matt Cail on 2/10/2009 5:07 AM
I attended the Feb. 7 Joliet, IL IWA Mid South show and thought I would send
along some thoughts.
To catch everyone up really quickly....A couple weeks ago Jimmy Fannin claimed
to have "hijacked" the IWA Mid South message board. He also said that he was
going to reveal something about Ian at the show. It got some people
(including myself) thinking that it was not a work. When I checked the
message board about a week later, IWA claimed to have
"retaken" the message board. You can see all the fun here

This was THE nicest day in Chicagoland since last fall. We reached 50
degrees....so maybe people had other things on their minds? I think the
attendance was around 100 or 150. Ian said "68 People" a couple times during
the show, but I think he was making light of the small crowd. I overheard a
few of the guys talking about HDNet and the new ROH show...just thought that
was interesting.
The night featured 10 matches....(9 of them were worth seeing) and one hissy
fit.
The first match was Keith Walker beating Juice Robinson. Juice has been
working with Jason Dukes the last few shows and has been looking really good.
I am not a fan of him getting squashed in this match, personally. I would
have rather seen Keith squash Masked Mask Man (Ian and Mickie's punching bag
at the last show).
I liked the second match with Greg Excellent and Jason Dukes. We got to see
some serious "man boob" spots from Sexy Slim Goody....I mean Jason Dukes.
(who I thought was retired)
Match 3 was Micheal Elgin beating Devon Moore. I was looking forward to this
match and was surprised it was so early in the night. It was a really good
match. Elgin did some kind of jumping Tombstone and I thought Devon was
dead. Man that thing looked really wicked.
Match 4 was just AWFUL! Yellow Dog beat Ash. I could go my whole life and be
happy not to see this again.
For match 5, First out was my favorite new tag team, The Hooligans. Then we
got the surprise of Rain coming out...so it was 6 person inter gender tag
action. When The Beautiful People came over the speakers I thought of Ian and
Mickie Knuckles...but out comes AXL! Awesome! Ian broke one of the
Hooligan's nose (I think his name is Mason). Ian also
seemed to hurt his shoulder. It seemed like Axl and Mickie weren't in
the ring that much. Mickie was sporting a huge brace, this show, over her bad
wheel.
After this match, Jim Fannin came out and ran Ian down pretty hard. The whole
"big secret" was that Ian called Danny Daniels. I really liked how Ian
laughed at Fannin when he said this. Jim ended up clocking Ian with the mic
and looks like its setting up something with Fannin and Jimmy Jacobs. If that
is the case, Fannin needs to do some serious crunches or something! I am not
much into seeing grown men screaming so at this point I decided to check out
the temperature of the nacho cheese this week.
During intermission Axl, Sami Callihan, and Rain were selling merch/photos
along with Mickie and Ian.
Match 6 was a 7 tag team guantlet match. Holy crap....7 tag teams in one
match! Two tag teams were from the Atlanta area (Contract Killers and
Starting Lineup). Starting Lineup's Kareem Abdul Jamar is a GREAT entertainer
with a very funny gimmick. Jamar (and his box of Cocoa Puffs) was the
highlight of this one for me. This was a lot of fun with the Soul Touchaz
picking up the win. The now earn a Pick Your Poison match. Maybe a chance at
the gold?
Match 7 was Bill the Butcher beating Dysfunction. Not quite a squash
match...but almost. I really want to like BTB, but its not quite happening
for me yet. I enjoying heckling Kimberly Kash, so this wasn't a total
loss for me.
Match 8 was THE match of the night. Incredible. B-Boy beat Sami Callihan.
These two beat the crap out of each other. At one point, B-Boy was sitting in
my chair giving shots to Sami who was striking back so hard he broke the
chair. Killer match that was worth my admission and probably gonna get the
DVD too...it was awesome. After the match Ian announced that B-Boy is now
gonna be a regular on the Joliet shows (Yeah!) and Sami is going to tour
Europe.
Match 9 was falls count anywhere with Trik Davis beating Ego Fantastico. The
feud between Smooth Operations and Ego continues. A good match that went all
over the place. How could I complain about a match where I got to hit Trik
Davis and Chuck E Smooth with a chair?
Match 10 was a 5 man spot fest for the Light Heavyweight title. Quick Carter
Grey retained. Match saw some great spots that should look good on the DVD.
The TV Taping Demo wasn't mentioned...so no news on that end.
Overall another fun show
