Hey everybody and welcome back to Zach’s How To Guide. We’re at Chapter 15. For my loyal followers [all six of you] you can see that I’m calling a quick audible with the Tommy Dreamer column. I will get to him soon, but I figured with the storyline looking to cumulate in June, we have some time to speak about him. Instead, I want to address a real interesting situation coming out of FCW with DH Smith, TJ Wilson and Natalya.
Before we get to that though, let’s look at the results of Week 1 of the Name Game. Seemed kind of topical this week talking about London and Kendrick, especially with the recent shoot feud between London and Matt Hardy. Thanks to all those who sent in tag team names, but from now on, I, along with two readers and Matt Hardy himself, decree London and Kendrick are now known as The Hooligans.
For week two of the name game, and keeping in congruity with the column, let’s try to find a name for Tyson Kidd’s springboard elbow drop. Please send ideas to zachlevine86@gmail.com. Winner gets, well they get a heaping of satisfaction.
Alright, let’s review the situation we find ourselves in shall we? I believe Harry Smith joined the WWE in May of 2006. He was a highly talked about British prospect and son of the late British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. What I remember too was an interview where he said that he was excited to join because he would make it to the roster immediately, bypassing Deep South and OVW.
Well Harry made his debut alright…right in the midst of a run-in to the ring. And that’s it. I just remember it was the oddest debut ever, just a guy with British trunks running into the ring for some reason I can’t quite remember. He then went to OVW/DSW/FCW for reasons only creative knows, and was called up to the RAW roster on Oct. 22 2007 with a debut win over Carlito. Next week he teamed with Jeff Hardy to beat Carlito and Mr. Kennedy, and that was it. Suspended for wellness reasons and then he was booked on Heat until two more 2008 RAW’s where he was squashed by Umaga and JBL. And that was the last we saw of DH on RAW.
Now to the situation we find ourselves in. Smith teamed with longtime friend TJ Wilson got managed by Natalya Neidhart, forming the New Hart Foundation. This is a money idea that would have been a solid addition to any roster, but from what I gather, DH Smith got impatient. He apparently went to creative and requested he get put in Legacy with other second generation stars, leaving Wilson and Natalya hanging in the wind.
Wilson soon gets bumped up to ECW, repackaged as Tyson Kidd, and has Natalya as his manager. The two of them look to have an excellent future, but what happens to the son of Davey Boy. Well as I see it, we have several options. How to deal with DH Smith? Lets check it out.
1. Give him what he wants. Put him on RAW with Legacy and make him the fourth member of the crew. He has a similar look to Rhodes and Dibiase [well more similar than Manu and Snuka] and could add to their forces fighting guys like HHH, Punk, Cena, etc.
2. Go the Teddy Hart route on him. He turned on TJ and Natalya looking to get ahead and look what happened. Fire him, cut your losses and move on. Some say that Teddy was just as talented and the WWE had no problem letting him go.
3. Keep him in FCW as punishment. Obviously Smith has talent, but from what he did, the WWE could turn him into the next Nick Dinsmore and have him languish in developmental for another couple of years.
4. Throw him into a feud with Tyson and Natalya on ECW. Bring up the fact that they used to be friends and hint at the new rivalry. Striker has been money with this recently, as he is a walking wrestling encyclopedia.
5. Put him on Smackdown or Raw as a regular wrestler. Obviously ECW seems to be the breeding ground for young talent, but if his father succeeded as a single’s wrestler, why can’t his son do the same.
6. Spin-off Legacy on another brand. Maybe add a Smackdown or ECW faction to the group, featuring Smith, Snuka, Manu, and some of the dozens of other second generation superstars that the WWE currently employs.
Anyways, so there are plenty of ideas what to do with DH Smith. If all rumors are true, what he did was pretty sneaky and I doubt other superstars will be too happy with him. Karma definitely played a hand in the TJ Wilson call up if you ask me. So personally, after Wrestlemania I would bring him up to ECW, bring up their history, have the feud, and then unite around the summer creating a solid tag team.
