So, any MMA fan knows of Lee Murray - the legendary street fights, the elite record, the UFC appearance, the bank heist, etc. My question revolves around that bank heist. Lee Murray's former trainer, and one of his best friends, was former fighter Dexter Casey. Dexter, while still friends and workout partners with Lee, got a full-time gig working in a bank. Was that the same bank that Murray allegedly heisted? If not, was Dexter also involved in the heist (allegedly)?
As far as any research I did goes into the bank robbery, there was no sign that it was the same bank that Dexter Casey had worked at. Also, as far as the police reports said, Dexter Casey was not involved in the robbery in any way possible. Time Inc. did announce that a feature film based on the bank robbery and portions of Lee Murray’s life was in production as of August 2008.
Nice to see you get the MMA side of things going even bigger on the site. My question pertains to Tuesday, March 17, 2009’s Nevada State Athletic Commission meeting. How do you see the pending outcome of the “Grease Gate” controversy impacting the sport of MMA?
It has already impacted MMA in some way, as the UFC has already changed there rules about Vaseline usage, which now can only be applied by cut men or fight doctors. I also believe it will effect MMA in that there could be more focus on the corner men for individual fighters, which could prevent other methods of cheating by the fighters corner men. Also, for BJ Penn, if the rulings eventually go his way, he could get a third fight with Georges St. Pierre for the UFC Welterweight Title (assuming Georges St. Pierre retains the title over Thiago Alves at UFC 100). As for Georges St. Pierre, I believe his next few fights will be scrutinized a little more by fans and UFC officials to be on the safe side and make sure no more controversy comes from Georges St. Pierre and his corner men. I think the best way to put the controversy to rest for good, just have Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn III so the differences can be settled for good.
