PREVIEWING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 18 TELEVISED CARD

By David Tees on 3/30/2009 9:36 AM

UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Junie “The Lunatic” Browning (3-0-0) vs. Cole “Magrinho” Miller (14-3-0)

Junie Browning was the bad boy of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, which was eventually won by Ryan Bader and Efrain Escudero. Junie Browning made his UFC debut at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale, when he defeated David Kaplan by submission. The other two victories in Junie Browning’s career came over Dustin Walden in March 2008 and Logan Barger in January 2008. Junie Browning will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with two victories coming by way of submission. Cole Miller has had a dominant run in the UFC with victories over Andy Wang, Leonard Garcia and Jorge Gurgel, with a lone UFC loss coming to Jeremy Stephens. Cole Miller is also a veteran of the Full Throttle promotion, where he defeated Harris Norwood, Chris Mickle, Tim Honeycutt, Jarrett Becks and Joe Germain. Cole Miller also has experience competing overseas in the Shooto promotion, where he lost to Takeshi Inoue. Cole Miller will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with nine victories coming by way off submission.

My Prediction: Cole Miller

UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Tyson Griffin (12-2-0) vs. Rafael dos Anjos (11-3-0)

Tyson Griffin is one of the top fighters in the UFC Lightweight Division, having defeated David Lee, Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau and Marcus Aurellio, while suffering losses to Frankie Edgar and Sean Sherk. Tyson Griffin is also a longtime veteran of the Gladiator Challenge promotion, where he defeated former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber. Tyson Griffin also had a short stint in the Strikeforce promotion, where he defeated Duane Ludwig by knockout. Tyson Griffin will be looking to use ground and pound to gain the victory, with five victories coming by knockout. Rafael dos Anjos made his UFC debut at UFC 91 in a losing effort to Jeremy Stephens by knockout in the third round. Rafael dos Anjos is a well traveled veteran of international competition, having competing in the Fury FC, Shooto and Pancrase promotions. Prior to the loss to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 91, Rafael dos Anjos was on a nine fight winning streak that lasted over two years.

My Prediction: Tyson Griffin

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight
Ryan “Darth” Bader (8-0-0) vs. Carmelo “The Fury” Marrero (10-2-0)

Ryan Bader entered the UFC via the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, where he defeated Vinny Magalhaes in the reality show finals. Ryan Bader started off his first year in professional MMA, 2007, in impressive fashion, winning six total fights. Two of those fights for Ryan Bader came in the King Of The Cage and International Fighting Organization promotions, where he defeated Dicky Chavez and Brad Peterson. In his eight total MMA fights, only two of them have gone past the opening round for Ryan Bader, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Ryan Bader is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with seven victories coming by knockout and submission. Carmelo Marrero is a UFC veteran who has fought Cheick Kongo, Gabriel Gonzaga and Wilson Gouveia in his first UFC run. Carmelo Marrero returns to the UFC after a short stint in the WEC, where he defeated Steve Steinbeiss at WEC 36. Carmelo Marrero also had a short run in the now defunct International Fight League, where he fought Mike Ciesnolevicz to a no contest in April 2008. Carmelo Marrero will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with four victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Ryan Bader

UFC Welterweight Division Fight
“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit (22-4-0) vs. Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann (14-2-0)

Carlos Condit enters the UFC as the final WEC Welterweight Champion as the UFC abolished the division a few months back. During his time in the WEC, Carlos Condit defeated Kyle Jensen, John Alessio, Brock Larson, Carlo Prater and Hiromitsu Miura. Carlos Condit is currently riding an eight fight winning streak that has lasted nearly three years, with his last loss coming to Pat Healy in June 2006. Carlos Condit is also a veteran of the Pancrase, Rumble On The Rock, Ring Of Fire and King Of The Cage promotions. Carlos Condit is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with all twenty two victories coming by knockout or submission. Martin Kampmann is a longtime veteran of the UFC that has fought the likes of Crafton Wallace, Thales Leitas, Drew McFedries, Jorge Rivera, Nate Marquardt and Alexandre Barros in the promotion. Martin Kampmann is also a veteran of the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship promotion, where he defeated Matt Ewin and Damien Riccio. Prior to the loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 88, Martin Kampmann was on a nine fight winning streak that lasted over three years. Martin Kampmann will be looking to use his striking skills to gain the victory, with seven wins coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Carlos Condit
