HOW TO BOOK WRESTLEMANIA 26

By Zach Levine on 4/9/2009 11:17 AM

Hey everybody and welcome back to Zach’s How To Guide. We’re at Chapter 22, how to book Wrestlemania 26. Some of you may be thinking, Zach, wasn’t the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania just three days ago? And I would say no, it is next year, learn to count. But seriously though, I am very impatient and want to predict next years Wrestlemania line up right now, so lets get to it shall we?

But before we begin, I would like to apologize to any of you who bet on my picks from Wrestlemania 25. Out of the nine matches, I got one right. One! Miz+Morrison, JBL, Jeff Hardy, MVP, Trish, Steamboat, Edge, and Orton all lost or did not participate in their respective matches. So listen, if any of my Wrestlemania 26 matches do occur, bet against what I have to say. Might end up thanking me for it.

So…let’s kick things off shall we?

Match 1 – Kaval vs. Bryan Danielson [ECW Title Match]
Alright, so I may have already lost the few readers I have by putting the American Dragon in the opening match of Wrestlemania 26. But hear me out. Low Ki, sorry, Kaval, is already in FCW and was tearing it up before his injury. Danielson is not a WWE employee obviously, but Regal did bring him to the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony this past year. Do you think that he just showed up and left without Regal introducing him to some people who have connections? I am predicting that by the end of this year, we will see the master of the Cattle Mutilation in a WWE ring with Regal in a managerial type role. And why would they be fighting for the ECW belt? Well every new guy who comes up seems to debut in ECDub first, so why not let these two familiar foes duke it out.

Match 2 – Evan Bourne vs. Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Carlito vs. The Big Show [Money in the Bank]
So this hinges on several things here. First, Kidd and Bourne could steal the show. Two, Mysterio stays healthy enough to compete in this type of match. Three, the WWE follows through with their apparent plans of this year, which would have put the 441 pounder in the match. I just think it would be interesting to see the big man swat away all the smaller stars and see how he does in the match.

Match 3 – Divas Unification Title Match – Natalya vs. Beth Phoenix
Figure we had the tag team unification match this year, and any match which would rid the WWE of that hideous Diva’s title is alright in my book. Make Trish the special guest referee and make it a lumberjill match, and I think we could have a solid match on our hands.

Match 4 – Jack Swagger vs. Chris Jericho
My idea is that during the WWE draft, we have Swagger and Jericho on the same brand. Now remember some wrestler by the name of Lance Cade? Remember that push he was supposed to get? Hi Jack Swagger, this is for you. So we have Jericho tutor the young man over the course of the year, until Swagger turns on Jericho later in 09. Have them trade matches until a blowoff match at the big show.

Match 5 – TLC Tag Title Match Jeff Hardy and Christian vs. Matt Hardy and Edge
Cmon, don’t even need to say more about this. Would make for an amazing match and sure everyone would pop for the nostalgia factor alone.

Match 6 – Smackdown Title Match – CM Punk vs. Shawn Michaels
Mark my words, 2009 will be the year where CM Punk turns heel, and it will be good. Oh yes, we are in store for an amazing year from the Punker. I think around Wrestlemania time he gets cocky and challenges Mr. Wrestlemania himself to a match, just to prove that by being straight edge, he remains “better than you.”

Match 7 – Undertaker vs. Ted Dibiase Jr.
Rumor has it that the WWE is eyeing young master Dibiase to defeat Taker at Wrestlemania at some point. I don’t think he beats him and takes the streak, but I do think we get a hell of a match out of these two. My only worry is that it will look too much like the previous match-up between Orton and Taker, complete with famous “Cough – Hall of Fame – Cough” father fighting on his sons behalf.

Speaking of Hall of Famers, I think here is where we get the parade of Hall of Famers coming out. The Class of 2010 will include Dibiase, Hawk and Animal, the Big Boss Man, Jake Roberts, Carly Colon, Bruno Sammartino, and the most electrifying man in Sports Entertainment, who comes out to a cheer….in preparation for his retirement match.

Match 8 – John Cena vs. The Rock
The gauntlet has been thrown down by Cena already, and I think the Rock may finally accept. Sweeten the pot with the Hall of Fame announcement, and make him the face by turning Cena heel and have him bash all of the Rock’s movies, and I think we can have a solid little matchup on our hands.

Match 9 – RAW Title Match – HHH vs. Orton vs. Batista
Hear me out, hear me out. I bet HHH and Orton heard all the crap spewn about their match this past week. And I bet that they want to silence the critics and have themselves one hell of a matchup to make up for this years stinker. Throw in a former Evolutionmate, perhaps a promo here and there by Flair, and could lead to the solid match that we should have had at this year’s big show.

So yea, that’s how I have Wrestlemania going. Sure I left out some wrestlers here and there, i.e. Umaga, Kane, and Kennedy, but gotta figure we’ll have the preshow battle royal once again.
