This Week in Wrestling
By Zach Levine
Hey everybody and welcome back
to This Week in Wrestling. Matt Striker's favorite politician is all over tv
right now, so let's get to the top ten stories in my opinion for this week in
wrestling.
1. Great Backlash PPV this past week. Loved the Christian win
and subsequent meet-up with Edge, Hardy match was sweet, and props to whoever
thought up that Big Show-John Cena spot through the spotlight. So a very nice
rebound from the biggest pay per view of the year.
2. So last week I
mentioned that with Jeff Hardy maybe taking some time off, only Punk and
Mysterio were the biggest faces on Smackdown. Well ladies and gents, welcome to
week one of the John Morrison face tour. I knew something was up when JR was
hardcore raving about him during his match with R-Truth, so I fully expect one
hell of a face push for the Shaman of Sexy in 2009.
3. On the flip side,
I personally despised the Miz's promo on RAW this week. Great shot in on Cena
with the movie joke, but what the hell was that? My personal hope was that he
would call out Michaels, and the two of them could discuss dumping their tag
team partners, with the Miz calling HBK washed up, but alas, he demands to fight
Cena. I do hope the Miz becomes a top tier heel, but let's build him up first as
a solo star before throwing him in with the big boys. Ok?
4. I'm liking
the push of TJ Wilson, er Tyson Kidd, on ECW. He is a can't miss prospect, and
if we can get DH Smith on ECW too to create a Hart Foundation reunion, might be
in for some money match-ups.
5. By DH Smith's drafting to ECW, it looks
like the enforcer of Legacy will not come to fruition. However, I think there is
someone in FCW who would make a, dare I say it, Perfect addition to
Legacy.
6. Moving down to Orlando for a little bit...could TNA have made
it any more obvious that they are in the market for Lance Cade? Jethro Holliday
[Trevor Murdoch] had a tag team partner, but he was stuck in traffic so they got
EY to take his place. How soon til Cade comes in, disrupts one of their matches,
and wrecks EY, leading to a Cade-Murdoch tandem in TNA?
7. Speaking of
tells, they really are setting up nicely for Samoa Joe and Tazz to join up. Love
the black towel references and when he finally does come out, you know the crowd
is going to pop huge. I'm predicting a Styles-Joe match at Slammiversary, with
Tazz coming out to finally make his managerial duties apparent.
8. Oh,
and I'm just saying, I hated the Wilde-Sojo ladder match this past week. My only
question is why was that a ladder match? Why wasn't it just a regular match.
Matches like that ruin the legacy of ladder matches. I'm not saying women
shouldn't be in ladder matches, I'm just saying they should be title matches and
between two women with a feud, not for a contract.
9. Interesting to note
in recent weeks that Shad and DJ Gabriel both have commented online about rumors
on their jobs. Obviously you never want to see anyone lose their jobs, and I
actually like to see the wrestlers stand up for themselves and not let internet
gossipmongers run wild. Good for them.
10. Few random thoughts that have
been floating through my mind through a slow work week...
A. I miss Monty
Brown. Would love to see him flying into one match and deliver a pounce. Just
make for a solid moment.
B. Condolences to Buddy Rose's fam and fans. Got my
first view of him actually last year on ESPN Classic AWA. Solid talent.
C.
Lance Hoyt is telling people he signed with WWE. Um...why didn't they invest in
the other Off The Wagon loser, the one with the best
finisher next to Evan
Bourne?
