THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING

By Zach Levine on 6/6/2009 10:26 AM
Hey everybody and welcome back to this week in wrestling. No time to delay, let's get to the wrestling goodness.

1. M.V.P.'s Addition by Subtraction
First on the agenda this week is MVP's surprising loss of the U.S. Title. I didn't think it would happen, but it took me three seconds after the match to realize what has happened here. Someone who I won't name but when he would name himself would do it twice got released last Friday, and he was primed for a nice sized push. I think that the loss of the US Title for Mr. Porter may be the best thing that ever happened to him, as he is poised to take over a top babyface role on RAW and begin to challenge for the Heavyweight championship over the summer months. I guess from now on we can call him MVP...VP.

2. The Return of a Masterpiece
Well I use that term loosely, but as reported on PWInsider, Chris Masters has been resigned. I was never too big a fan of him from the get go. If I remember correctly, his calling up came when he beat Hardcore Holly a few times on house shows, a punishment for Holly because of something he did to Rene Dupree. Later I remember the WWE patenting Chris Masters, The Masterpiece, and the Masterlock. I was intrigued, then horrified when in his first match he broke Stevie Richards nose. Hopefully he improved during his time away, because if used right he could be a solid heel for the company.

3. Joe-Nash Not So Lethal Lockdown
I was appealed by the main event of Impact this week, and then I wasn't exactly thrilled with the ending of the match. The two of them fought, and the match was won when Joe cracked a hockey stick over Nash's back. That's it? At least lock in the Tazzmiss...I mean Kokina Clutch to cement the victory Joe.

4. The End of Jeff Hardy
So it doesn't look like he has resigned with the company and Matt Hardy just likes internet publicity. It seems like this ladder match will be the blowoff feud in the Hardy-Edge rivalry, so really Sunday would be the perfect time for him to go. If they want one more month out of him however, why not do a Matt Hardy run-in during the ladder match, leading to a loser leaves WWE match at The Bash?

5. The Petty Part of Petty Officer Neal is Right
Hey, what the hell was that on Impact? They build up for Neal's debut, show him training with Rhino, and then they book him in a squash against Matt Morgan. No wrestling gear, no real music, god awful haircut. See this is why TNA needs jobbers just like the WWE does. Build up your stars, cmon. At least have him beat Cody Deaner or something like that.

6. The Retirement of Sting
By this time next year, TNA will be shaped much differently. I doubt we will see Sting, Nash, Steiner, Kip, Shane Douglas, Foley, Jarrett, and Raven wrestling. I would love to see this lead to the induction of Sting into the WWE Hall of Fame, just for the sheer irony. But to me this only means one thing. AJ Styles world champion, and please toss the legends title. Enough is enough with that thing.

7. Matt Striker's Unfortunate Picture
Let me just say...HAHA. Ah poor guy. One of the biggest up and coming announcers and then this breaks loose. [poor choice of words, whoops]. My favorite part of the whole story though is that apparently the WWE knew of this beforehand so Striker won't be punished. They knew beforehand? Geez how awkward must that conversation have been???

8. A Rainfall of Releases
FCW is sending a few guys out for the count, and I think the WWE is soon to follow. DJ Gabriel, Jesse, Sim Snuka and Curt Hawkins probably should start updating their resumes...

9. Ziggler-Undertaker?
Interesting news breaking this week as well about a possible feud coming up this summer between Dolph Ziggler and the Undertaker. Very interesting and I would like to see the match-up. And how ironic is it that the top two stars of the Spirit Squad, Kenny and Johnny Jeter are gone, and Nic Nemeth is the big star coming from the group.

10. Extreme Predictions
Lets do this my friends. I say.....
1. Edge over Jeff Hardy
2. Orton over Batista, with Tista beating up Flair post match, turning heel
3. Big Show over Cena
4. Santina over Vickie
5. Jericho over Mysterio
6. Kofi over Hardy, Regal, MVP
7. Dreamer over Swagger, Christian
8. Punk over Umaga
9. Punk over Edge [Wink wink]
