PREVIEWING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER 9 FINALE PRELIMINARY CARD

By David Tees on 6/18/2009 11:17 PM
UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Jason “Dynamite” Dent (18-9-0) vs. Cameron “Money Man” Dollar (2-1-0)

Jason Dent fought twice in the UFC before becoming a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9, losing to Roger Huerta at UFC 63 and Gleison Tibau at UFC 68. Jason Dent enters this fight on a three fight winning streak, with recent victories coming over Harris Sarmiento, Nick Sorg and Matt Shaw. Due to his time on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9, it has been nearly nine months since Jason Dent last fought in a professional MMA fight. Jason Dent will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with fourteen career victories coming by submission. Cameron Dollar is another cast member from the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9 and will be making his official UFC debut in this fight. Cameron Dollar is a veteran of the Elite Fighting Extreme promotion, where he defeated Luke Holdorf and lost to Jose Luis Murillo. The only other fight thus far in the career of Cameron Dollar was a victory over Daniel Hinsen at SE Vale Tuso in late 2007. Cameron Dollar is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with both of his career victories coming by knockout and submission.

My Prediction: Jason Dent

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

“Slick” Nick Osipczak (3-0-0) vs. Frank “Tank” Lester (3-2-0)

Nick Osipczak is an undefeated fighter who will be making his official UFC debut in this fight, despite being a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9. Nick Osipczak is a veteran of the Fighting Xtreme promotion, where he defeated Brenden Flanagan and Nigel Whitear. Nick Osipczak also fought in the ZT Fight Night promotion, where he defeated Geoff Hayes by submission. Thus far in his three professional fights, none of them have gone past the first round, which speaks to Nick Osipczak’s finishing skills. Frank Lester will be making his UFC debut in this fight after a successful run on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 9. Frank Lester is a veteran of the Total Combat promotion, where he defeated Cosmo Chiles, while suffering losses to Chuck Graves and Nick Braker. Frank Lester will be entering this fight on a three fight winning streak, last defeating Lance Evans by TKO in September 2008. Frank Lester will be looking to use his striking skills to gain victory, with all three of his victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Nick Osipczak

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Mike “Mike C” Ciesnolevicz (17-3-0) vs. Tomasz “Gorilla” Drwal (15-2-0)

Mike Ciesnolevicz made his UFC debut at UFC 95 in February 2009, when he defeated Neil Grove by submission. Before coming to the UFC, Mike Ciesnolevicz primarily competed in the now defunct International Fight League, where he defeated Brent Beauparlant, Aaron Stark, Alex Schoenauer and Adam Maciejewski, while suffering losses to Reese Andy and Andre Gusmao. Mike Ciesnolevicz will be entering the fight on a four fight winning streak, with his last loss coming in September 2007. Mike Ciesnolevicz is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with twelve victories coming by knockout and submission. Tomasz Drwal made his UFC debut at UFC 75 in a losing effort to Thiago Silva, but rebounded to defeat Ivan Serati at UFC 93. Prior to suffering the loss to Thiago Silva, Tomasz Drwal was on a thirteen fight winning streak that lasted over three years. In between his fights with Thiago Silva and Ivan Serati, Tomasz Drwal took a two year break from active MMA competition. Tomasz Drwal will be looking to use his striking skills to gain the victory, with nine prior wins coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Mike Ciesnolevicz

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

“Bad” Brad Blackburn (13-9-1) vs. Edgar Garcia (7-0-0)

Brad Blackburn is undefeated thus far in UFC competition, defeating James Giboo at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 14 and Ryo Chonnan at UFC 92. Before coming to the UFC, Brad Blackburn competed in the International Fight League, defeating Gustavo Machado, Chris Wilson, Jay Hieron and Delson Heleno, while suffering losses to Rory Markham and Mark Miller. It has been over two years since Brad Blackburn last lost in MMA competition and is currently on a four fight winning streak. Brad Blackburn will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Edgar Garcia comes to the UFC after a successful debut in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he defeated Hiromitsu Miura. Edgar Garcia is also a veteran of the Total Combat and Desert Rage promotions, where he defeated Tony Kalani, Matt Lagler, Effrain Rodriquez, Sean Loeffler and Waylon Kennell. Edgar Garcia is an undefeated fighter, whose current seven fight undefeated streak has lasted over two years. Edgar Garcia will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with five prior victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Edgar Garcia

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

“The Young Assassin” Melvin Gillard (21-7-2) vs. Gleison Tibau (17-6-0)

Melvin Guillard is a longtime veteran of UFC competition, already defeating Marcus Davis, Rick Davis, Gabe Ruediger and Dennis Siver, while suffering defeats to Josh Neer, Joe Stevenson and Rich Clementi. In the first four years of professional MMA competition for Melvin Guillard, he averaged at least five fights per year in a three year span. This fight will be the first MMA fight in nearly a year for Melvin Guillard, so conditioning could become a factor. Melvin Guillard will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with thirteen prior victories coming by knockout. Gleison Tibau has also spent a lot of time in the UFC, holding victories over Jason Dent, Jeff Cox, Terry Etim, Rich Clementi and Jeremy Stephens, with losses coming to Nick Diaz, Tyson Griffin and Joe Stevenson. Gleison Tibau has also spent time competing in MMA overseas, losing to Eji Mitsouka in the DEEP promotion. Gleison Tibau will be entering this fight on a two fight winning streak and this fight will be his third fight of 2009. Gleison Tibau will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eight victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Gleison Tibau
