THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING

By Zach Levine on 7/25/2009 10:34 AM

Hey everybody, another busy week in wrestling my friends, lets get to the good stuff shall we...

1. And in the lead off position this week is...Eric Young? I haven't enjoyed him for years on TNA, but with this new gimmick, I'm actually intrigued. I like that he is finally a set heel and not a tweener, and like that he leads the World Elite. I also find it interesting he's gonna use the piledriver as a finisher, and Tenay even commented how there is a code by the wrestlers not to use that move due to the injury risk. Won't spoil the next couple weeks of Impact here, but bravo EY for turning it around.

2. Jericho needs a partner this week. I know I have been talking about this for weeks now, but the mystery partner angle is always a fun one to figure out. I changed my mind once again this week, and I think best bet is to turn Christian and have him join Jericho. He showed signs of a heel turn on ECW, and the two have history. Plus, when Edge comes back, we have two ready made feuds for him.

3. So wow, the Kurt Angle-Jeff Jarrett situation is pretty nuts huh? Tons of rumors floating out there about the whole situation. Is this the last of Jarrett in TNA? Is this the final straw for Kurt? Personally, I think in a couple of weeks, the heads of TNA will get together and realize this could be a money making angle if played out right on TV. Look at the Hardy-Edge similar feud from a while back. I just can't imagine that creative lets this situation go under the water without using it.

4. ZZ Top, great decision WWE. When you won't even put the group on live tv, it's not exactly the best way to go with the guest GM spot. By the end of the night, I was uber sick with their puns, and I hope the WWE realized that they shouldn't use the guest GM angle as a way to get their idols and friends on tv. Will say I am excited for Shaq and Ari Gold now though. It's turning into SNL, seeing who will host every week.

5. How good did Hernandez look on TNA this week? Guy was hurt, got back in shape, and now he looks better than ever. We will see big things from him the rest of the year. My only issue - why tease dissention between him and Hernandez. Unless...Homicide joins the World Elite turning on the big SuperMex? Could be jumping far ahead, but might just be that way.

6. I'll be honest, came home tonight and completely expected to see Kendrick future endeavored on the WWE site. He lost to Jerry Friggin Lawler on RAW. Wasn't even in Memphis! Why have Jerry fight anymore, wasn't even in his proper ring gear. Ugh. All I want is just a little Kendrick push here, not asking for much. He's getting wasted in the spot he's in now.

7. Rumors arose this week about JBL joining up with TNA. He has since downplayed, but an over 40 former champ who has a vendetta against TNA? He'd fit in with half the roster, might as well try to sign him up.

8. ECW was a bit weak this week, so again I request, can we please push Shelton again. Bring up Drew McIntyre, tone down Washington, and I am interested in the Kozlov-Ezekial dynamic. In all honesty, if Zeke is turned face in this feud, he could potentially tear the house down in ECW. Would like to see him make that wicked clothesline his finisher as well.

9. Kinda funny to say this, but this week we had two candidates for Worst Match of the Year. So congrats Hornswoggle-Chavo tux match and Sharmell-Jenna. Gonna be a tough race at the end of the year to see who takes home the anti-Slammy.

10. Interesting news this week too about potential DVD releases. By the end of the year, I would like to see a compilation Jericho disc, I liked that idea of the Giants and Monsters disc, and I think a good call would be future stars of wrestling. Showcase the new ECW guys, Morrison, Ziggler, etc. Could be a fun little release.

Well that's all for me my peeps. Be well and thanks for reading - Zach
