Hey hey, welcome to This Week In Wrestling. Lots on the docket, so let's get right to it...
1. So I was busy Thursday and Friday, came home today and was ready to write a whole different intro, but then this Kurt Angle news breaks. Not going to make comments since all the facts don't appear to be out yet, but very interesting situation here. Quite curious to see what happens with the Hard Justice main event as well. Personally I would not be surprised to see a LAX member come out of the match as the new heavyweight champ.
2. Alright for all you Jeremy Piven haters out there, you have to admit he did a better job than the Sarge. That was hard to watch this past week. I get what they tried to do, but hoo boy. And I'll be honest, kinda excited to see Freddie as GM. I mean the guy was on creative for a while, I think he'll know the stars and actually sound like he knows what he's talking about during the show.
3. So many Eugene jokes, so little time. Guess that contract on a pole match was a legitimate shoot match huh? Think he parked in Vince's spot for the show and he wanted to make an example of Mr. Dinsmore? And what's up with the weekly cannings now? Kendrick, Ortiz, Eugene. I bet stars prefer the days of old when 5 or 6 guys get fired at once, rather than one at a time, like a water faucet drip.
4. Funny note as well, reading that New Japan is not recognizing the British Invasion as champs. Imagine the folks from the land of the rising sun watching TNA Impact and going, hey what?! This is like if the WWE went to a Japanese promotion and had Yoshi Tatsu beat Randy Orton for the heavyweight title. This can't be good for relations between the two companies.
5. I did like seeing Shelton turn face on ECW however...or was that just the Canadian crowd? Gotta love our neighbors to the north. They cheer and boo who they want, and that is how it should be. AND...did I see the Hart Dynasty bring out a springboard Hart Attack as their new finisher? Loved it, quite happy to see someone's reading my columns. [Alright no chance that's happening, but c'mon, let me think what I want to haha]
6. DX has returned. Well I mean it's always nice for HBK to return and I guess the skit is funny. But the WWE is treating this like the best thing since sliced bread, Sliced Bread #3 if you may. My only issue with the skits...did Michaels really have to superkick a 10 year old girl? Know they didn't show it live, but it was insinuated. Kinda shady if you ask me.
7. Alright, a quick look at my favorite wrestling brand...ECW. Kozlov-Zeke needs to do something new. It went Kozlov 1, Zeke 1, Kozlov 2, Zeke 2. Can something different happen this week? This is reaching EY-Robert Roode/Orton-Legacy length proportions.
8. And on Tuesday night, I usually DVR ECW and watch the awesome show Rescue Me on FX. During the 10:40 portion of the show, I laughed hard. Perhaps you all heard it, because that was how quiet the crowd was during the Tyler Reks match!!! A cricket in section 340 was prolly the loudest part of the night. Can we get Tyler in a feud, or give him some more personality here? I'm intruiged by the guy, but I don't want him to turn into Ricky Ortiz version 2.
9. Love seeing Cryme Tyme get a nice push towards Summerslam...but fat chance they win the tag belts. You don't mix two theme songs of wrestlers to only have them together for a couple of weeks. Prediction they lose the title at the Royal Rumble...thanks to a returning Rated R Superstar.
10. And Khali and Ranjin are apparently brothers? Yeesh. Please please please do not have a tag team brother match, with Singh and Khali against Kane and you know who.
Well thanks for reading. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and be well everyone.
