THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING

By Zach Levine on 9/5/2009 11:19 AM
GET IT ON!!! And welcome back to This Week In Wrestling. I'm Zach Levine, certified wrestling mega-fan and here is this week in wrestling. Let's get to it shall we?

Welcome Nigel
1. I delayed the Danielson post last week, but this week I'll make up for it beginning with the big news today. So two down, two to go with the ROH signings. I'm quite curious to see what the WWE does here with Nigel. What makes these signings interesting for me is that neither of these men have wrestled substantially for TNA, so this will be their first exposure to the big time. I gotta believe they'll be called up around the same time, perhaps the beginning of 2010. I would love to see them both debut at the Rumble, but don't know how much that will happen. But if CM Punk was any indication, fans will light up the arenas when these two men enter the WWE.

Shocking TNA Departure
2. Wow, did not see that release coming. Sad too because the Beautiful People were one of the freshest acts in TNA. Those two girls had a perfect schtick and knew exactly how to work the crowd. My hope is that Angelina Love gets all this figured out before the end of the new year and can come back to TNA. If the WWE's use of Gail Kim is any example, I don't know how well they would use her if they swooped in and signed her on the dotted line. And by the way, this reeks of that movie, The Proposal. We can't get Alex Shelly to marry her or something and keep her in the US?

Match Of The Year
3. Mark it down people, Rey Mysterio vs. John Morrison is the match of 2009. Taker vs. Michaels may have some votes, but the faceplant dive ruined the bout for me. What I saw tonight on Smackdown was just incredible. Morrison's mule kick made me mark nearly as hard as HBK's cross ring superkick of Shelton Benjamin years ago. Phenomenal [more on this in a moment] match and I highly recommend catching it if you haven't seen it.

 About That Phenomenal Comment...
4. So AJ Styles says that it's fine Michelle McCool stole the Styles Clash, and he remarked that Morrison is a thief of moves, even accusing him of ripping off the Spiral Tap. C'mon Styles, you're better than this. Morrison is a hell of an athlete, plain and simple. I don't remember anyone using the split legged corkscrew moonsault before. The fact is, AJ has innovated about a dozen moves, so just be honored that people are using your moveset there. Still rooting for you there in TNA.

The Smackdown Color Commentator Curse
5. I spoke of this a while ago. When the WWE decided to shuffle up everything and move Tazz to ECW, JBL took over on Smackdown. He returned for a year and quickly bounced at Wrestlemania. Coach took over, only to pursue a career as a sportscaster. Then Foley stepped in...only to get put through a table by Edge and show up in Orlando months later. Then Tazz took over again, only to step away before Wrestlemania and head down to Orlando. Now the rumor is that Good Ole' JR will be joining his fellow Smackdown Commentators in the Sunshine State. Attention Matt Striker: I enjoy your work on ECW, resist all moves to Smackdown. Please, we don't need you leaving too.

Poor Chavo
6. Dear Lord, I just watched the Soup and they made fun of the brutal Swoggle-Chavo segment. When Joel McHale makes fun of the action, it's time to put a stop to it. Please. Before we see a Plinko Match on Raw this week, and...gulp...a bra and panties match two weeks from now in honor of Trish.

A Heel Rhino
7. Got some issues with this angle. He's mad cause Jesse Neal is a brutal wrestler. Not exactly Rhino's fault. I know Jesse is an American hero, but I think TNA did a poor job of building him up. They make him look like I just stepped into a wrestling ring, and I ain't no wrestler. I just wish TNA would leave Rhino as the angry, face veteran and work more on pushing guys like Joe, Doug Williams, and the MCMG.

That's Enough Tony
8. Wow. Just when I thought the Abraham Washington Show couldn't of gotten any worse, they bring back Tony Atlas as a sidekick who mistimes his laughs and steps over Burchill cutting a promo. Please please please put an end to the show. Actually...let's do this. Striker and Grisham on RAW, Cole and Hurricane on Smackdown, and Washington and Matthews on ECW. Figure with JR maybe leaving soon and King looking to be a Mayor, why not try to switch up the announcing a little bit.

Squash City
9. Speaking of ECW, I enjoyed the Kozlov-Zeke match. Don't know why, but that was one of the most fun squash matches I have ever seen. You knew the other two guys wouldn't get in a lick of offense, so it was just utter domination with the fight. Check out the match if you get a chance, good stuff.

Matches I Want To See
10. Just thinking about this earlier this week. Here are a few matches that haven't been done yet and are quite possible that I'd be intrigued to see.
RAW - Michaels vs. Swagger
ECW - Sheamus vs. Burchill
TNA - Dinero vs. Styles
Smackdown - Punk vs. Truth

Well that's all for me everyone. Thanks again for reading and be well - Zach
