THE LUCHA REPORT

NEWS

Perro Aguayo Jr. spoke to a group of entrepreneurs on Thursday and talked about the trials and tribulations of being a wrestling promoter and told them that he thought he was a rudo but he has nothing on the ruthlessness of businessmen in Mexico. Perrito told the businessmen that Mexico has been dominated by EMLL & AAA for the last 17 years and they have run their business using mostly a traditional style of lucha libre with defined tecnicos and rudos but he noticed the last couple of years working for EMLL that the fans were getting more and more into the grey area wrestlers like Los Perros del Mal. Perrito then thought that it was time for a promotion to do business a different way that doesn’t cater to tradition but creates it’s own. Perrito said that he has watched Hijo del Santo & Blue Demon Jr. make names for themselves working for themselves and not a singular promoter which is something that he was jealous of because he felt the promotions were holding back the talent from taking bookings that they didn’t feel like they needed to take. Perrito said that the promotions aren’t loyal to their talent but to the money they bring in and see them as interchangeable which is something that he grew to despise and if anyone tried to run opposition then they were crushed by the machine because they didn’t want any promotion that might come into their area running shows that are more fan friendly. Perrito brought up how lucha libre is only second to soccer in popularity and that anyone can be successful with the right people behind them as a promotion.

Perrito then gave some interesting stats to say the least about his promotion saying that Perros del Mal currently employs 40 wrestlers and their wages go from 1,500 pesos to 100,000 pesos per show. The tickets normally cost about 30 pesos for kids, 50 for general admission, and 100 for ringside and they sell about 90% of the tickets per show. Perrito claimed that about half of the lucha libre fans in Mexico are fans of Perros del Mal and that they plan on having their merchandise in stores by the end of this year with it only being available on their website as of now (that is a lie because their website doesn’t sell merchandise.) The shows cost between 50,000 to 300,000 pesos to run with the promotion itself getting 10% of the revenue while the show promoters themselves getting 50%. Perrito then brought up possible TV saying that they hope to be on Cadena Tres or Unicable by October. All I can say is wow to some of this stuff that Perrito claimed.
