UFC ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT 19 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 9/13/2009 10:04 PM
UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Nate “Rock” Quarry (11-3-0) vs. Tim “Crazy” Credeur (12-2-0)

Since returning from a long layoff following back surgery, Nate Quarry has been on a roll in the UFC with victories over Pete Sell, Kalib Starnes and Jason MacDonald, only suffering one loss to Damien Maia. Before the back injury, Nate Quarry had defeated the likes of Lodune Sincaid, Shonie Carter and Pete Sell in UFC competition. Nate Quarry once challenged for the UFC Middleweight Champion, losing to the UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin by TKO at UFC 56. Nate Quarry will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Tim Credeur is a fighter who is currently undefeated in UFC competition, with victories over Cale Yarbrough, Nate Loughran and Nick Catone. Before coming to the UFC in 2008, Tim Credeur fought such MMA luminaries as Joey Villasenor and Chael Sonnen, suffering defeats to both. Of his fourteen professional fights, only two have gone past the first round for Tim Credeur, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Tim Creduer will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eight victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Tim Credeur

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit (22-5-0) vs. Jake Ellenberger (21-4-0)

Carlos Condit entered the UFC in early 2009 following a hugely successful run in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he was the final WEC Welterweight Champion. In his UFC debut at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 18 in April 2009, Carlos Condit lost to Martin Kampmann by split decision. While in the WEC, Carlos Condit gained victories over Kyle Jensen, John Alessio, Brock Larson, Carlo Prater and Hiromitsu Miura. Carlos Condit is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with twenty two victories coming by knockout and submission. Jake Ellenberger will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the International Fight League. While in the IFL, Jake Ellenberger defeated Ben Uker and Pat Healy, while suffering losses to Jay Hieron and Delson Heleno. Jake Ellenberger also recently competed in the ESPN sponsored Bellator Fighting Championships promotion, where he defeated Marcelo Alfaya by knockout. Jake Ellenberger will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with thirteen victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Carlos Condit

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Gray “The Bully” Maynard (7-0-0-1NC) vs. Roger “El Matador” Huerta (20-2-1)

Gray Maynard had an interesting start to his run in the UFC, as he fought Robert Emerson to a no contest at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale after both fighters knocked each other out with a takedown. Following the no contest, the undefeated Gray Maynard has gone onto defeat Joe Veres, Dennis Siver, Frankie Edgar, Rich Clementi and Jim Miller. Gray Maynard has only fought twice outside of the UFC, where he grabbed victories over Josh Powell and Brent Weedman. Gray Maynard is a fighter known for taking fights the distance, with five victories coming by way of decision. This fight at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 19 for Roger Huerta could mark his last in the UFC, as his contract will be expiring after this fight. Thus far in his UFC run, Roger Huerta has defeated Jason Dent, John Halverson, Leonard Garcia, Doug Evans, Alberto Crane and Clay Guida, while suffering a lone loss to Kenny Florian. This will be the first time in over a year that Roger Huerta has fought in a professional MMA fight, so conditioning could play a factor in the fight. Roger Huerta will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eleven prior wins coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Gray Maynard

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Nate Diaz (10-4-0) vs. Melvin “The Young Assassin” Gillard (22-7-2)

Nate Diaz got into the UFC after winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5, when he defeated Manny Gamburyan at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale. Following the victory, Nate Diaz has gone onto defeat Junior Assuncao, Alvin Robinson, Kurt Pellegrino and Josh Neer, while suffering losses to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson in UFC competition. Nate Diaz also spent some time in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he fought UFC veteran Hermes Franca. Nate Diaz will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with seven victories coming by way of submission. Melvin Guillard is a longtime veteran of UFC competition, having defeated Marcus Davis, Rick Davis, Gabe Ruediger, Dennis Siver and Gleison Tibau, while suffering losses to Josh Neer, Joe Stevenson and Rich Clementi. Before coming to the UFC in 2005, Melvin Guillard fought other MMA athletes like Joe Jordan, Carlo Prater, Kyle Bradley, Ryan Stout and Robert Emerson. Melvin Guillard will be looking to use his striking skills to gain the victory, with thirteen wins coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Nate Diaz
