PREVIEWING THE UFC 103: FRANKLIN VS. BELFORT SPIKE TV CARD

By David Tees on 9/18/2009 10:06 PM
UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Drew “The Massacre” McFedries (8-5-0) vs. Tomasz “Gorilla” Drwal (16-2-1)

Drew McFedries has had a stellar run in the UFC, achieving victories over Alessio Sakara, Jordan Radev, Marvin Eastman and Xavier Foupa-Pokam, while suffering losses to Martin Kampmann, Patrick Cote, Mike Massenzio and Thales Leitas. Drew McFedries is also a veteran of the Extreme Challenge promotion, where he fought UFC veteran Nate Quarry in September 2001. In an interesting career note, Drew McFedries has not had a fight go past the first round in nearly three years. Drew McFedries will be looking to use his striking skills to gain the victory, with five wins coming by knockout. Tomasz Drwal has had a successful run in the UFC thus far, with victories over Ivan Serati and Mike Ciesnolevicz, while suffering a single loss to Thiago Silva. Early in his career, Tomasz Drwal won the Coliseum 3 Tournament by defeating Slawomir Zakrzewski, Krzysztof Golaszewski and Jacek Buczko. The loss to Thiago Silva at UFC 75 snapped a thirteen fight winning streak for Tomasz Drwal, which lasted over three years. Tomasz Drwal will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with ten victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Drew McFedries

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Efrain “Hecho En Mexico” Escudero (11-0-0) vs. Cole “Magrino” Miller (15-3-0)

Efrain Escudero enters the UFC after winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, which he did so by defeating Phillipe Nover at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale. Efrain Escudero is a longtime veteran of the Rage In The Cage promotion, where he defeated Chris Collado, Joe Cronin, Mike Smith, Nic Stone, Jose Rodriquez, Peter Newsheller and Eric Regan. Of his eleven career fights, Efrain Escudero has only had two of them go to a decision, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Efrain Escudero will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with nine victories coming by way of submission. Cole Miller has had a successful run in the UFC thus far, with victories over Andy Wang, Leonard Garcia, Jorge Gurgel and Junie Browning, while suffering a lone loss to Jeremy Stephens. Cole Miller has been dubbed a the “TUF Killer” by MMA insiders, due to his victories over UFC Ultimate Fighter contestants Andy Wang and Junie Browning. Cole Miller is also a longtime veteran of the Full Throttle promotion, where he has won five of his six fights in the promotion. Cole Miller will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with ten victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Cole Miller
