Sept 19 NWA Anarchy TV Taping
Live Report
by Larry Goodman
NWA Anarchy returned to action Saturday night for their first television taping
since Hostile Environment.
Attendance at the NWA Arena in Cornelia was 120. It was a tough crowd, as tough
a crowd as this building has seen in a quite a while. They popped (sorta) for
intros and finishes and that was about it. My theory was water log of the brains
from all the rain and gloomy weather. One of the veterans presented an
explanation that had equal merit. The essence being fans were given spectacular
spots and cool moves galore at Hostile Environment, so they were numb to cheap
thrills. It was paramount to keep them emotionally invested with primal stuff –
evil, brutal heels and fiery babyfaces with heart.
It was a busy night. They had to throw a lot out there. As Palmer pointed out in
his opening, there are only three taping before Fright Night, the shortest run
between big shows Anarchy has ever done.
NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer opened talking about how he exercised the demon,
“Reverend†Dan Wilson at Hostile Environment and in so doing, cut the head off
the snake that is Devil’s Rejects (Reverend bled heavily and did a stretcher
job). Palmer was interrupted by music of New Jack.
New Jack entered the ring looking pimped out to the max in a purple suit and top
hat. He was accompanied by bodyguard/protégé Bigg Q. He got a huge pop on a
night when they were few and far between. Jack said he took a break and stopped
the diving to let the new boys come in. Said we would be seeing him on the big
screen. Jack introduced Q, and compared mentoring him to teaching a bastard kid
tricks in the playground. Jack said he promised Bill Behrens he wasn’t to curse
– “like inviting a fat woman to a smorgasbord and not letting her eat†- but he
was going to follow through and collect 20 bucks from Bill. Jack said Cornelia
was like his Motel 6 – they always leave the light on for him.
I’m like a disease. You stuck with me. I ain’t going nowhere. Bele dat.
Jack closed by suggesting Rick Michaels in a sissy fight for the main event.
With that, he collected his $20 from Behrens and headed to the back. Jack’s
commanding presence blew just about everyone else on the show away. Jack has cut
many great promos in the building, and this was as good as any of them. His
imagery was powerful, the message was focused and there was nothing of the
unfortunate excesses that have marred much of his past work.
(1) Veterano IV beat Todd Sexton in 5:43. Sexton’s did prematch mic work
saying he was going to sexecute the jumping bean. I felt sorry for him. Talk
about a tough act to follow. Plenty of so-so action but they lost the crowd.
Sexton did get a pop for a stiff kick the face. IV got the pin with a
springboard into a small package.
Postmatch: Sexton went after the mask a bit and IV then tackled him on the ramp.
(2) Entourage (Andrew Alexander & Mike Mosely with Jay Clinton & Mercedes
Moseley) beat J-Rod & BJ Hancock in 6:49. The debuted J-Rod is arguably the
hottest babyface wrestler in the state of Georgia and a very hard worker, but
you would have never known it from the reaction he got here. Alexander used one
of his trademark hotshot moves to start heat on J-Rod. On the comeback J-Rod
speared the post. Alexander nailed him with rude slice ‘n dice face stomp off
the middle rope. Mosely hit his finisher and Alexander followed with a
piledriver for the pin on Hancock.
Postmatch: Alexander had both good and bad news for Clinton. I’m not sure where
the good news in this was, but Mercedes would be accompanying only Clinton to
the ring AND he was being moved out of the Young Lion’s Division for a series of
tests starting with…
(3) Mikal Judas pinned Jay Clinton (with Mercedes Moseley) in 2:36. Judas
just glared at Clinton, who finally got up enough guts to do his Memphis strut.
Judas launched Clinton with El Crucifijo, halfway across the ring easy. Crowd
popped huge and begged for another one. Judas gave it to them. One of the
highlights of the evening.
(4) Wild Bunch (Billy Buck & Chris King) beat Youth Gone Wild (Anthony Henry &
Dustin Knight) in 5:12. It was babyface vs. babyface, which rarely works in
Cornelia, and it sure wasn’t going to on this night. Match was moves that nobody
cared about. Wild Bunch accidentally dropped Knight on a flying bodypress and
had to pick him up so Henry could knock them down with a missile dropkick to his
partner’s back. Sometimes it’s best to deviate when plans go awry. There was a
funny spot where Henry came off the ropes and Buck caught him with a bionic
armpit. Buck pinned Henry after the (King) Russian legsweep/(Buck) superkick
combo. A postmatch display of sportsmanship got a lukewarm response.
(5) Skirra Corvus beat Malachi to win the NWA Anarchy Young Lion’s
Championship in 7:07. Malachi got off to a fast start but a missed
springboard move was his downfall. It became a showcase for Corvus’ unique
offense. With his height, Corvus flew across ¾ of the ring on a springboard
splash and made it look easy. I’m waiting for him to bust out the coast-to-coast
version. But frustration was setting in when Corvus was unable to secure the
pin. Malachi made the comeback with a pair of german suplexes. He released on
the second one and went up for the diving headbutt. It missed. Corvus
curbstomped Malachi and pinned him clean. Another impressive performance by
Corvus and the right time to put the belt on him.
Postmatch: Corvus put the Young Lion’s medallion around his neck and was about
to celebrate with a second curbstomp when Hayden Young hit the ring for the
save, so it looks like Young will be the first challenger. Young was another guy
that got surprisingly little reaction.
(6) Jeremy Vain beat Bo Newsome to retain the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight
Championship in 10:11. Newsome was hitting all kinds of moves early. At
3:00, Vain dropped Newsome to his knees and hit a ropes assisted Shining Wizard.
That move is a keeper. Vain slowed things down and did basic heel stuff using
facial expressions. It stood out, because he was the first one to go that route.
Still didn’t get much heat, because there wasn’t much in way of babyface fire
from Newsome, who the fans never saw as having a legit shot at winning. Vain
tried to dump Newsome, but he hung on the apron and came off the top. Vain moved
but Newsome landed on his feet and hit his signature dropkick. Newsome went up
to again. Vain crotched him and hit a draping DDT for the pin.
Vain called himself The People’s Champion and ran down the list of people he had
beaten including Shadow Jackson in less than 5 minutes at Hostile Environment.
Said he did it alone, which of course, he did not. That brought Jackson out. He
pointed at Vain ala Hogan and had the crowd totally with him. Vain dropped the
belt and backed off. Jackson gave the belt no mind. He was focused on Vain.
Jackson got a couple of blows in before he was speared by “The Wrestling Hybridâ€
Orion Bishop. Bishop handed Vain his belt. Vain formally introduced Bishop as
the upgrade bodyguard replacement for Rob Adonis.
End of hour number one.
(7) Seth Delay & Brodie Chase & Mike Posey beat Kareem Abdul Jamar & Corey
Hollis & Alejandro in 6:22. Some hilarious mic work by the heels ripping on
Slim J. Chase sarcastically apologized for ending J’s career. Chase said J might
have Tourette’s body for life. Delay introduced Posey doing a Slim J
impersonation. Well done and very funny. Delay said with J gone, there would be
no more free bandanas, but it was the way he said it. Jamar tried to manipulate
the fans into cheering for his team. The heels beat the hell out of Hollis.
Chase pinned Alejandro with a Thunder Fire Powerbomb.
Postmatch: Old “Hands of Steel†Delay was going to clock Hollis with the brass
knucks, but Newsome made the save with a steel chair. Despite the wicked beating
Hollis took and the devastating finisher on Alejandro, neither one sold a lick
as they were leaving.
(8) Melissa Coates beat Krissy Vaine in 6:32. Coates got one of the best
pops of the night. It was all downhill from there. To say they didn’t mesh well
would be putting it mildly. They traded kicks in the ass. Coates did an
impressive torture rack, but she sat down on Vaine’s DDT, and what a mess that
was. Coates won it with a standing version of the Facelift (inverted suplex
slam).
(9) Rowdy Friends (Don Matthews & Jessco Blue) decimated Aaron Lee & Antoine
Jordan in 3:25. Lee’s jobber jacket was awesome. Equally awesome was Lee
bobbing his head as Blue wound up for a haymaker. Matthews lit Lee up and took
Jordan’s head off with The Lariat. A good squash. The crowd liked it as much as
they were going to like anything.
Postmatch: Hate Junkies (Dany Only & Stryknyne) attacked Friends and left them
laying.
(10) JT Talent (with Drew Pendleton III) beat Derrick Driver in 11:16.
Talent said New Wave was the only team in the locker room deserving of facing
the champions, but Steven Walters was a no show, so Driver could dip or take a
beating. Driver said he would take on either one of them. From the get go,
Driver was fighting the numbers game. Driver completely overshot a corkscrew
dive. Nothing to break his fall but he was OK. Referee Ken Wallace threw
Pendleton out for interfering. Driver countered Talent’s finisher with a
crucifix bomb. Talent hit his elevated full nelson face plant. Talent missed
with a Tumbleweed. Driver caught Talent midair with a double knee. Lots of big
moves and almost zero crowd response. Entourage tried to interfere. Driver cut
them off with a double dropkick. Pendelton came back to distract the ref, while
Carnage (son of Stone Mountain) hit the choke bomb on Driver. Talent got the pin
with the Standing Ovation. It was the right finish in the sense massive
interference was required to beat Driver. Entourage and Talent & Money engaged
in a little postmatch staring contest.
Attorney/Agent Jeff G. Bailey entered the ring with Shaun Tempers and Phil
Shatter. Bailey complained about what Palmer did to “young Dan Wilson†at
Hostile Environment –attacked him for no reason like a savage, feral dog, like
pro wrestling’s answer to 9/11, made him bleed (that got a pop) and sent him to
the hospital. Bailey claimed Wilson was in a wheelchair with a dislocated hip.
Bailey then claimed that Tempers never quit in the War Games. What the ref
actually heard with Ace Rockwell shouting, “Why won’t you quit?†Tempers said
Rockwell didn’t deserve a shot at his TV title. He said Rockwell was a punch
drunk moron, while he was a world class scientific wrestler. Tempers said
Rockwell could have title match at Fright Night and name his own stipulation, IF
he could beat Tempers in a match where either man would be DQed for throwing a
punch. Rockwell came out to almost no pop. It was a bizarro world moment. Coates
got a louder pop than one of Anarchy’s biggest stars. Rockwell said all Tempers
had to do was ask.
(11) Iceberg beat National Heavyweight Champion Phil Shatter (with Jeff G.
Bailey) via DQ in 11:53. This match had some heat. Fans are into Iceberg as
a baby, and they told a simple story. In the opening minute, the 400 pound
Iceberg ran the ropes (was that ever a sight to behold) and blasted Shatter with
a shoulder block. It was all Iceberg until he missed with a charging knee, and
Shatter gave him a leg DDT over the ropes. The body of the match saw Shatter
work over Iceberg’s knee like a man possessed. Iceberg made Shatter miss with a
big move and started landing heavy blows. Shatter’s shoulder block bounced off
Iceberg. Iceberg paused before hitting the Thigh Drop of Doom for a near fall.
Shatter came back with a corner spear and tried for the 10 punches. Iceberg
powerbombed him, and Tempers hit the ring for the DQ. Truitt Fields made the
save.
NOTES: Jack addressed the Anarchy locker room prior to the show. It was said to
have been quite a speech, even better than the promo he cut in the ring…Next TV
taping is October 3. Fright Night will be October 31, Halloween night.
The Hensley Report: 9/19 NWA Anarchy TV tapings
By Scott Hensley
I made the journey to Cornelia, GA to support the best wrestling product in the south after stopping off for some Chinese food at Abdullah's House of Ribs right below Atlanta. Some of these are probably out of order.
Kareem Abdul Jamar announces he will be the show's MC from now on but will also still wrestle.
Show opens with the usual address from Jerry Palmer who is calm tonight and happy about ridding Anarchy of Dan "The Reverend" Wilson.
Looks like the show is about to begin when NEW JACK makes his way to the ring with a friend. New Jack gives an awesome promo about how he's always welcome at Anarchy and will stop by from time to time. Some NEW JACK chants. New Jack did a promo without swearing and was rewarded with $20 from Bill Behrens haha
Todd Sexton comes out for the first match and grabs the mic... which was dumb after New Jack just gave his awesome promo. He complains about being in the first match.
1) El Veterano d. Todd Sexton - This match just didn't do it for anyone. The ring is dead at Anarchy and there was really no ring psychology to this match. The striking was very soft looking. It was just Veterano hitting a bunch of spots and the crowd absolutely not caring at all in the tiniest bit, which would be a theme throughout the evening. Veterano won with a roll up to add to the "fluke" victories being scored over Sexton on every show now.
2) The Entourage(Mike Mosley & Andrew Alexander) w/ Jay Clinton and Mercedes Mosely d. J-Rod & BJ Hancock - No surprise here that the Entourage picks up the win. Crowd didn't care about this match either. After the match, Andrew Alexander tells Jay Clinton that Mercedes was now his valet and only his, not theirs... BUT he was going to have to prove himself... RIGHT NOW... Mikal Judas comes out. Crowd loves this.
3) Mikal Judas d. Jay Clinton with two crucifix powerbombs. Clinton did his stupid strut and Judas got right down to business, delivering a huge crucifix powerbomb. Crowd chanted ONE MORE TIME! so Judas did and got the pin.
4)The Wild Bunch(Chris King & Billy Buck) d. Youth Gone Wild(Brandon Knight & Anthony Henry) - no heat in this one with both teams being babyfaces. Not a bad match but the crowd did not care. Wild Bunch won with the Superkick/Russian Legsweep and then shook hands with YGW. Well isn't that special.... As over as Wild Bunch is, the crowd still wasn't into this match.
5) Skirra Corvus d. Malachi to win the Young Lions Cup(which is a chain link necklace... I was wondering what happened to the Undertaker's urn after Kama melted it down into that chain!)in an awesome display of how unique Corvus is. Probably the 2nd most over person of the night... first will disturb you but we'll get to that in a minute. No one cared about Malachi. Corvus "matrixed" a flying body press, jumped all the way across the ring from a springboard, locked on a couple of really flexible holds, and ended it with a curbstomb. He was going to curbstomp him again, which the crowd didn't mind at all when a returning HAYDEN YOUNG made the save... to a very weak crowd reaction.
6) Jeremy Vain d. Bo Newsome to retain the Heavyweight Championship. No one thought Bo had a chance and no one wanted Bo to win the title. Why was he being given a title shot? This was an example of someone who gets over with the crowd being put in a situation where the crowd just couldn't even really cheer for him. Not a bad match... just unbelievable with the title being up for grabs. Killed the crowd.
Jeremy Vain said he was a defending champion and he'd take on any challenger BUT Shadow Jackson. Shadow Jackson comes out and Vain does a mic check with his hand like Are you kidding me? i said anyone BUT Jackson! Jackson backs him into the corner and pounds on him until Orion Bishop runs in and spears Jackson. Vain announces Orion is taking the place of Rob Adonis as his new bodyguard.
Intermission w/ Krissy Vaine & New Jack signing autographs and selling merchandise.
7) Rowdy Friends(Don Matthews & Jessco Blue) d. Aaron Lee & Antoine Jordan. This was a squash match and was kinda fun to watch. Lee and Jordan just don't look like wrestlers. Matthews ended it with a huge clothesline. The Hate Junkies(Dany Only & Stryknyn) come out and brawl with the Rowdy Friends.
Seth Delay and Brodie Ray Chase come out and taunt Slim J. Slim's music hits and Mike Posey comes out in some sagging baggy jeans and black bandanna to the side. Pretty convincing and hilarious once everyone realized it was Posey and not Slim J. Posey grabbed his crotch a lot and after Delay and Chase finished their promo, Posey chimed in with a couple of "BUSSSSTERRRR"s that had everyone laughing.
8) Seth Delay, Brodie Ray Chase, & Mike "Slim P" Posey d. Corey Hollis, Kareem Abdul Jamar, and ??(guy that looks exactly like Antoine Jordan) in what was pretty much a squash match. Hollis hit a pele kick on Seth Delay but it wasn't enough for the underdogs to overcome the odds. After the match, Brodie and Posey hold Hollis while Delay grabs the brass knuckles to hit him. Bo Newsome runs in with a chair to make the save.
9) Melissa Coates d. Krissy Vaine in the worst match I've ever seen at Anarchy and quite possibly the worst match I've ever seen. Somehow Melissa Coates was THE most over person of the night... why? I dunno... made NO sense. Vaine came out and blew dust out of her hands and then wiped them on fans. Got great heat... Kanye West could have come out and been cheered at this point. Match lacked stiffness, direction, selling, and yet still got a crowd reaction... ridiculous. Coates sold a DDT by falling backwards then Vaine just randomly fell down after giving the "DDT"... made NO sense at all. My head hurt from scratching it at this match. Just terrible to the point of hilarity.
Talent & Money say if anyone deserves a title shot it's New Wave but Steven Walters wasn't there tonight. Driver says he will take on either of them, unless they're too chicken.
10) JT Talent d. Derrick Driver when CARNAGE ran in and laid out Driver as the Entourage and Andrew Pendleton III stood at ringside. You would think a fan favorite like Driver would have the crowd ULTRA behind him after it became 5 on 1 but really the crowd just didn't care. This was originally supposed to be a tag team title match but became a singles match when it was announced Steven Walters could not make it to the show. Andrew Pendleton III was sent to the back but came back out when the Entourage(Mosley & Alexander) came out to watch the match. After the match Entourage and Talent & Money kinda have a stare off. This wasn't a bad match but it just died and I'm not sure when, how, or exactly why.
The Unholy Alliance comes out to the ring consisting of Jeff G Bailey, Shatter, and Shaun Tempers. Bailey says Tempers never gave up in the War Games match at Hostile Environment when Ace Rockwell handcuffed him to the ropes and punched him until the bell was called for. Bailey said Ace Rockwell was the one saying "just say you QUIT" and THAT was what the ref heard. Tempers says he will face Rockwell in a match where punches are not allowed and if Rockwell can beat him then Rockwell gets a title shot for the TV title and can name whatever stipulation he wants. Ace comes out and accepts.
11) Iceberg d. Shatter by DQ when Shaun Tempers and Jeff G Bailey got involved. Truitt Fields made the save. Not a bad match here either but the crowd was absolutely dead at this point.
I'm interested to see what all Larry Goodman has to say about the pitiful crowd energy haha. Not the best Anarchy show but not completely Anarchy's fault by any means.

NWA Anarchy TV Report by
Ca$hFlowX
Episode 178
July 6, 2009
Major apologies for the delay in posting this TV report. Teaching high school on
an Indian reservation is a rewarding challenge. I am finally settling in after
absorbing exorbitant amounts of information.
WRESTLING: (n.) ’res-ling A sport of contest in which two individuals face off
in unarmed combat.
ANARCHY: (n.) an-ar-key (1) A state of lawlessness due to absence of
authority. (2) A complete lack of order.
What happens when you mix the two together? NWA-Anarchy!
- Welcome to NWA Anarchy, this is PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING~! Greg Hunter is
unimpressed with John Johnson's inconspicuous absence. Last week on NWA Anarchy
TV, the New Wave successfully defended the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles against
the Technicians. This week, Talent & Money battle the team they accuse of
"dropping the ball" in Brody Ray Chase & Seth Delay.
1. "The Son of Satan" Azreal w/"the Reverend" Dan Wilson & the Staff of
Righteousness pinned "I Owe John Johnson $35.32" Don Matthews.
John Johnson charges the Merciless One $35.32 in fumigation fees for the
obnoxious and merciless odor Matthews emitted at the broadcast table last week.
Highly doubtful Matthews will take the Body seriously. Both wrestlers chop the
living flesh off each other. What else do you expect from two sadistic
individuals? Matthews signals for the Lariat of Doom, but the almighty Reverend
hooks his ankle. Azreal lambastes Matthews with a spin kick and a running knee
in the corner. Azreal employs Plan B by working over Matthews' arm with a
flapjack. The mugging continues after commercial. Matthews fires away several
futile shots with his bad arm before Azreal kicks his legs. Matthews no sells a
pair of chops and uses his weight advantage to escape the Ted Bundy. After the
Beer Run, Matthews turns his attention to the "Feature Presentation" Jeff Lewis.
Azreal lights up Matthews like a Christmas tree for turning his back on the
competition. One Elbow Drop of Doom later and Azreal completes the physical
dissection of the Merciless One.
2. Orion Bishop squashed "the Event" Chris Mayne.
Mayne receives an opportunity at redemption here, but Bishop destroys the Event
with the spear. Unimpressed with Bishop's spear imitation, NWA National
Heavyweight Phil Shatter, Kimo and Jeff G. Bailey launch a heinous assault. Kimo
lands several pain inducing shots to the stomach before unleashing a long series
of martial arts blows. Bailey trashes Bishop for having the audacity to
associate himself with Mikael Judas. Bishop decrees that if Judas fails to show
then Bishop will die. The lights black out and Judas' entrance music blares
throughout the NWA Arena. Bailey goes ballistic. Once the lights turn back on,
Bishop is gone stage left.
3. "Hollywood Hacksaw" Andrew Alexander & "the Marquee" Michael Mosley w/"Ain't
I Great?" Jay Clinton & Taco "John" Delgado defeated the Wild Bunch ("Brokeback"
Bill Buck & Chris King.)
Leave it to Taco to provide and the velvet rope and red carpet treatment for the
Entourage. It would be nice to see the Wild Bunch not get squashed. Johnson
continues to complain about unwashed body odors of the Rowdy Bunch.
The Wild Bunch deliver quality ass kicking double team punishment to the
Entourage with a double flapjack, double hiptoss, and an assisted gourdbuster
splash. The Entourage takes over when Mosley backs King into their corner.
Clinton ensures his team maintains the advantage with a classic heel distraction
and a Hot Shot by Alexander. After commercial, King escapes Alexander and Mosley
to make the hot tag. King plasters the Entourage with elbows. After sending
Alexander to the floor, King connects with his patented Samoan Drop. The Jeff
Jarrett wannabe hops on the ring apron and plays sacrificial lamb by eating a
turnbuckle smash. The distraction is long enough for Alexander to connect with a
enziguri from the apron. Mosley connects with the Midnight Summer's Scream Ace
Crusher for the victory. Afterwards, "the Feature Presentation" Jeff Lewis heads
out to join the Entourage and bloviates to Hunter how much classier and stylish
they are. Matthews and the "Hellbilly" Jessco Blue have objections. Lewis
reminds Matthews of the odds, "There is four of us and 2 1/2 of you." Matthews
has a point to make and antes up. He proposes an offer Lewis can't refuse by
offering up Jessco Blue's hair. Blue reckons it could be outstandinger than
hell. Lewis accepts Matthews' offer and places Clinton's hair on the line. Lewis
orders the sanitation department to depart, but the Wild Bunch help clear the
ring of the real garbage.
4. Talent & Money (JT Talent & Andrew Pendleton III) defeated "the Great
American Scream Machine" Brody Ray Chase & "the Hands of Steel" Seth Delay.
The referee promptly restores order after a near riot. Talent and Delay wrestle
to stalemate. Likewise for Chase and Pendleton. The sleaziest tag team in the
Dirty South takes over after Chase breaks up a pinfall attempt by Talent. Chase
displays his physical prowess until he turns his attention to Pendleton. T & M
take advantage of the situation. Pendleton lands the Alabama Jam, but Delay
breaks up the pinfall attempt. After commercial, Talent breaks a pinfall attempt
by Delay, drags Pendleton to their corner, and wisely makes the tag. Talent
receives a Standing Ovation and Delay tags out to Chase. Chase connects with a
neckbreaker combination before showboating to the crowd. After a gut wrench
powerbomb, Slim heads out to ringside and chases Delay away. After an error in
judgment, T & M finishes off Chase with a double STO. Weird match with good back
and forth action. Crowd would have been more behind T & M had they been booked
as faces.

NWA Main Event TV Review by
Larry Goodman
Airing at
www.nwame.com
Taped September 3, 2009 at the NWA Studios in Nashville
Opening with a replay of the conclusion of last week’s contract signing for the
NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Title match. Steve-O shut the mouth of Shawn Shultz
with a superkick.
Cut to Jason James and Scott Barry at ringside with a review of two of the
hugest (as Barry would say) arrivals ever in NWA ME – the return of “Boogie
Woogie Boy†Gary Valiant and the debut of “He’s Coming†mystery man, Vic the
Bruiser. It’s do or die time for Shultz this week. He gets his title shot, but
if he loses he’s banished from NWA ME.
(1) White Tiger beat Chad Hyatt in 4:15. The debuting Hyatt is a big guy
with a big gut and skinny arms. Fat boy snapped Tiger’s throat off top rope to
take over for a bit. The announce team questioned whether O was fully recovered
from the neck injury Shultz gave him three weeks ago. James called it a muscular
abrasion. No cigar but closer than calling it a meniscus tear. Tiger went for an
O’Connor. Roll. Hyatt botched it and Tiger made an alert recovery with a sleeper
hold. Tiger was busy urging the crowd to cheer as he made his comeback. It
should work the other way around. Tiger hit a pretty good Pounce. He tried to
fly ¾ of the way across the ring for the Tiger (frog) Splash and didn’t quite
make it. Bad match. Tiger did what he could, but Hyatt was green, out of shape
and overall horrible.
(2) Travis Sawyer (with Tony Lucassio) beat Shane Rich in 7:41. Shane has
a good look for a Nashville babyface and the crowd got behind him instantly.
James threw it backstage where “Wild Thing†Will Owens was attacking White Tiger
and Corey Hollis. It was Valiant to the rescue, as he started wailing on Will.
Back inside the ring, Sawyer bailed after a taking a spinning headscissors.
Moments later, Sawyer took over with a big spinebuster and made a cocky back
cover. Long sleeper hold/chinlock by Sawyer. Wouldn’t be Nashville wrestling
without one. Rich powered out and started a comeback, but Sawyer muscled him up
for a power slam. Impressive. Sawyer used a one foot cover. Sawyer ate a boot
and sold it forever with Rich poised to deliver a middle rope crossbody. Sawyer
made the catch and converted with the Buzzsaw –a devastating variation on Cradle
Shock. Like a shortened version of Sawyer’s match with Rapada Jr. last week, but
better, partly because it wasn’t positioned as the main event.
Barry interviewed Sawyer at ringside. For starters, Lucassio brushed the
dandruff off of Barry’s sports coat. Barry asked how Shultz was handling Project
Prominence being barred from ringside for his do or die match. Sawyer was
supremely confident. “Shawn’s got this in the bag.â€
EARLIER TODAY…In the parking lot, James asked Vic the Bruiser for a moment of
his time. Vic was in a surly mood. “If people thought what I done last week was
something, stick around. Watch what I do tonight. And as for you, back up!â€
(3) Teddy Tender beat Lani Kialoha in 4 minutes. Kialoha attacked Teddy
wearing shorts and tennis shoes. An impromptu match, apparently. It wasn't
clear. Kialoha totally overwhelmed Tender, who was without the wig but wasn’t
acting like Bully. Teddy tried to get away. Kialoha destroyed him with diving
headbutts, hit the uppercut to the throat and the Samoan Drop, but Tender kicked
out after all that. Teddy didn’t get one offense maneuver until the finish. He
dropped Lani’s head on the top turnbuckle and pinned him with his feet on the
ropes. The story was fine except the one visual - Tender kicking out after
taking all of Lani’s big moves. It would have worked much better if Lani just
kept beating on him.
Backstage, Barry informed Mike Posey was getting his match against TV Champion
Matt Boyce. Posey accused Boyce of running from him and said he had beaten all
the goofballs NWA ME put in front of him (ignoring that his last two matches
were losses to Kialoha and Victor Kosmo).
(4) Matt Boyce beat Mike Posey to retain the NWA Mid-America TV Title in
8:22. This was Boyce’s shot at revenge for Posey turning on him in a tag
match a few weeks back. For the first minute, Boyce was making Posey pay for his
big mouth. Posey used a hotshot and spent a log stretch dissecting Boyce’s neck
with a couple of cool slingshot moves thrown in. They cut to Valiant and Owens
fighting in the concession area. Mike Porter was there. Owens tried to fry grill
Valiant’s face on the hot dog cooker. Valiant shoved a hot dog in Owens’ mouth.
On the comeback, Boyce hit a spinning neckbreaker of his own. Posey caught Boyce
with an enzuigiri but no three count. Boyce countered Posey’s finisher. Moments
later, Boyce hit his froggy crossbody for the pin. So the #2 and #3 babyfaces
both use variations of the frog splash as their finisher.
Boyce did a postmatch interview at ringside. Generic stuff. He badly needs new
material. Boyce thanked the fans, because without them, guys like him would have
nothing to do to make a living.
We came back from commercial to see Owens and Valiant brawling their way out the
back door of the building.
(5) Shawn Shultz pinned Steve-O at 19:50 to allegedly win the NWA Mid-America
Heavyweight Title. The announce team gained credibility points by noting
that Shultz would have to change his strategy, as he could no longer afford a DQ
loss. They also raised doub about the condition of Steve-O’s neck. Cautious back
and forth action with a fair amount of time spent on the mat. There was a flurry
of action came at the 7 minute mark. Shultz blocked a superkick. Steve-O blocked
the DDT and went for another superkick, but Shultz scooted under the ropes.
Shultz did a slow grind on O’s neck. Shultz got a close near fall with a reverse
DDT. O broke a sleeper hold and fired up the big comeback. He hit the flying
forearm and made the crawling cover, but Shultz kicked out. Shultz schoolboyed O
using the tights. When that didn’t get it, Shultz pulled out a chain. O ducked
and the ref got clocked with the chain. O hit the superkick for well more than a
three count, but no ref. They cut to Sawyer standing over the body of the second
ref holding a steel chair. Shultz ducked a chain shot and DDTed O. Still no ref.
Lucassio hit the ring wearing a ref shirt. He fast counted but O kicked out.
Lucassio slow counted O’s jackknife pin attempt. O hit the Double Shot and
Lucassio refused to count. O went after Lucassio. Shultz got him from behind
with the low blow, and Lucassio made the fastest three count in wrestling
history. Low blow DDT fast count by Lucassio. The announced team was outraged.
Lucassio gave Shultz the belt. Barry said no way this was going to stand and
refused to call Shultz the champ. Quality wise, it wasn’t bad for such a long
singles match involving Steve-O. The twists and turns in story were fine until
Lucassio came out.
THOUGHTS: I don’t know what to think about the way this show ended. They spent
so much time and energy building up this huge stipulation and then pissed away
all the meaning of it by having the barred Lucassio involved in the finish. On
the other hand, they did hook me into watching the next episode, just to see how
they get out of the predicament. Logic dictates the BOD enforcing the clause
barring Project Prominence. Therefore, Shultz is fired, but we know that ain’t
gonna happen. Besides, since when does logic apply in NWA ME?. Ahh, but Lucassio
wasn’t at ringside. He was pressed into service as a referee. Perhaps there was
some loophole in the contract that allows the heel manager to serve as referee
in case of emergency. Perhaps it leads to even more dire consequences from the
BOD. All will be revealed next week. Maybe…NWA ME doesn’t seem to have clue one
about what to do with Posey’s character, and I’m not sure Posey does either. Not
a word about his association with Project Prominence this week. I thought that
was the story. Instead, Posey loses two matches in a row, one of them to the
bottom guy on the roster and he gets a title shot. The only way that happens is
if Boyce DEMANDS a match with Posey to get revenge for the double cross…The best
thing about the show was the backstage brawling between Valiant and Owens. And
the even better thing is I can see the possibility of them having good
matches…Vic came across all badass in the parking lot. That was fine, but he
didn’t make good on his threat. The viewers never saw him do anything to anybody…Kialoha
doesn’t seem to be getting over very well as a babyface, and the way he was
presented on this didn’t make that task any easier…The wrestling on this episode
was a little better than last week. The stories, unfortunately, left a lot to be
desired.
