Daniel Cormier (0-0-0) vs. Gary Frazier (0-0-0)
Although he is making his professional MMA debut in this fight, Daniel Cormier is a former Olympic wrestler and will have a wrestling edge in the fight. Gary Frazier will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but has won his lone amateur MMA fight in 2009.
My Prediction: Daniel Cormier
Strikeforce Featherweight Division Fight
Thomas Longacre (4-0-0) vs. Travis “The Dark Knight†Calanoc (4-0-0)
Thomas Longacre will be making his Strikeforce debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the Extreme Fighting League promotion. While in the Extreme Fighting League, Thomas Longacre has defeated Chris Looper and Shane Wiggard. Thomas Longacre once took a three year break from MMA competition, but return to compile a three fight winning streak. Thomas Longacre will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with a lone victory coming by knockout. Travis Calanoc hasn’t fought in a professional MMA fight in over a year, but brings a four fight undefeated streak into the fight. Travis Calanoc is a veteran of the Freestyle Cage Fighting promotion, where he holds victories over John Swanburg and Adrian Olivas. Travis Calanoc will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with a single victory coming by knockout.
My Prediction: Thomas Longacre
Strikeforce Welterweight Division Fight
Tyron “T-Wood†Woodley (3-0-0) vs. Zach “The Lisbon Outlaw†Light (6-8-0)
Tyron Woodley has fought once before in the Strikeforce promotion, where he defeated Sal Woods at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields. Of his three professional fights, Tyron Woodley has seen none go past the opening round, which speaks to his finishing abilities. This fight against Zach Light will mark the fourth time Tyron Woodley has fought in 2009, which is his rookie year in MMA. Tyron Woodley will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with all of his victories coming by way of submission. Zach Light will be entering the fight with a losing record, but he has spent time in big time promotions like World Extreme Cagefighting and Bodog Fight. Zach Light has also fought some top notch MMA veterans like Pete Spratt, Tony Fryklund, Jeremy Jackson and Jake Ellenberger. Zach Light is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with four victories coming by knockout and submission.
My Prediction: Tyron Woodley
Strikeforce Heavyweight Division Fight
Ray “Sugar†Sefo (1-0-0) vs. Kevin “The Shaman†Jordan (11-7-0)
Despite being a well traveled veteran of combat sports, Ray Sefo has only competed in a professional MMA fight once before. In that lone MMA appearance, Ray Sefo defeated Min Soo Kim by knockout at K-1 Hero’s II in July 2005. It has been more than four years since Ray Sefo last competed in a professional MMA fight, so conditioning could become a factor. Ray Sefo will be looking to use his striking skills to gain the victory, with all of his wins coming by knockout. Kevin Jordan will be making his Strikeforce debut in the fight, but he is a veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championships. While in the UFC, Kevin Jordan lost fights to the likes of Gabriel Gonzaga and Paul Buentello before exiting the promotion. Kevin Jordan has fought other top notch MMA veterans like Travis Wiuff, Patrick Smith, Wesley Correira and Kerry Schall. Kevin Jordan is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with seven victories coming by knockout and submission.
My Prediction: Ray Sefo
Strikeforce Middleweight Division Fight
Tim Kennedy (10-2-0) vs. Zak Cummings (10-0-0)
Tim Kennedy made his Strikeforce debut at Strikeforce Challengers Series II, where he defeated Nick Thompson by submission. Tim Kennedy is a veteran of the International Fight League, where he defeated Dante Rivera, Ryan McGivern and Elias Rivera. Tim Kennedy started off his career in impressive fashion with a eight fight winning streak that lasted nearly six years. Tim Kennedy is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with nine victories coming by knockout and submission. Zak Cummings is an undefeated fighter who scored the biggest victory of his career when he defeated UFC veteran Terry Martin at XCF: Rumble In Racetown earlier this year. Zak Cummings is a veteran of the FM Productions promotion, where he defeated Rudy Bears, James Bunch and Leo Pla. Zak Cummings is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with seven victories coming by knockout and submission.
My Prediction: Tim Kennedy
