THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING

Hey everyone and welcome back to This Week In Wrestling. Shall we do this? Let's go!
1. So as soon as I finished last week's column saying that Batista was behind the whole Undertaker storyline, it hit me how this will end. Alright, so I think its kinda clear after this week's Smackdown that Vince is behind the screwjob. Want to know why? Well spare from them "drug testing" HBK on live television a few years ago, the wellness policy has rarely been brought up on television as a full fledged angle. I say Vince will come out the week after Hell in a Cell and say that he is fully backing CM Punk because he is Straight Edge and will never fail the policy, thereby ensuring WWE fans that they won't lose the champion to a drug policy failure. If this is true, some may say that Vince doesn't see Punk as strong enough a champion to stand on his own, as he needs Vince's help, but from right now, this is how the angle looks like it will go down.
2. Interesting news that Bret Hart has been in talks with the WWE recently as well. My personal theory though is not to believe it til we see it. If he truly does come back though, how sweet would it be for him to return during a Hart Dynasty vs. DX match, perhaps for the tag belts at the Royal Rumble? A man can dream can't he?!
3. Can someone please name me one other wrestler who has bled more in the last several years than Abyss? The hells going on here, every time he steps in the ring now it seems like he'll get a crimson mask. Fights Team 3D - blood. Fights Dr. Stevie - blood. Fights Foley - blood. The beatdown at the end of Impact was nearly sickening. And no idea why Foley decided to turn heel again, but I bring this up again. Barbed Wire Massacre 3 - Foley vs. Abyss. Bank on that my friends.
4. Didn't mind Cedric the Entertainer hosting RAW this week. He wasn't as bad as ZZ Top, that I'll say. My question please though - who was the big dude who helped him? Normally web sites would have the guys name minutes after, its Saturday now and we're still wondering. Someone get called up from FCW for the evening or was it a random indy guy they needed to fill a slot? Just a little odd.
5. So this PPV looks to be the last one that Legacy will be facing DX for a while. So I say we institute a quick new policy. Fresh match-ups in PPVs for the rest of 2009 please. What I wouldn't give to see Orton-MVP or Cena-Swagger headline a show. Perhaps Kofi-Michaels, Miz-HHH. Get some fresh match-ups people haven't seen in a while. Jericho was right this week when he said RAW needs new stars, let's give these guys a chance.
6. Quite enjoyed the Ryder-Christian match this week if I may say so myself. My only concern is that it happened too soon. I would have liked to see Ryder get another win under his belt before he challenged Christian. By him facing him almost immediately, the outcome of the match became obvious. Still nice to see him elevated however, and I have an inkling of a feeling that we may see him compete in MITB at Wrestlemania 26.
7. Interesting to see McMahon give such props to Drew McIntyre on Smackdown this week. He's had some nice interactions over this past week, and I'm curious to see how he does on the brand. It is getting awfully crowded on Smackdown however, so interested to see how they manage to fix that problem.
8. Ha, and the person who sent the Impact spoilers pointed this out, but that was Vince Russo who handed the steel chair to Homicide this week. Probably should have been edited out before it was show on national television, but oh well. I'd still like to see Cide break out on his own though and not be a lackey towards EY.
9. Love the news coming out this week that Dennis Miller may host an upcoming Monday Night Raw. Here's my idea. We stick him on commentary with Striker and see how many phrases people can understand within the 2 hour telecast.
10. And on a personal note myself, just want to thank the fine folks at
pwinsider.com for publishing these columns. For about a year now I have been writing these, and I have been connecting with fans all over the world. So I thank Dave, Buck and Mike and hopefully I will be writing these columns for a few more years to come.
Thanks for reading everybody. Be well - Zach
