THE LUCHA REPORT

Rayo de Jalisco Jr. gave a candid interview a couple of days ago talking about
his upcoming 34th anniversary as a wrestler in November where he said that there
has been a lot of changes over the years with a lot of it going against the
traditional style that he loves so much. Rayo said that he had some big shoes to
fill following his great father but he felt that he was up to the task because
of the great training he had by him. Rayo said that he has seen promotions come
and go using different ways of promoting but he still believes that a theme of
youth vs. experience is the best way to go because the fans want to see the
younger stars compete against the accomplished veterans to prove themselves.
Rayo said that EMLL right now is going with a youth vs. youth concept but that
isn’t what the fans want, they want to see the age wars but of the current
promotions they are doing the best. Rayo was asked about AAA and said that the 3
weeks he spent there was the worst experience he had throughout his career
because their style was totally against what he believed. Rayo thinks that there
aren’t any real feuds these days and brings up his great rivalries with Cien
Caras & Sangre Chicana that was selling out bullrings in the 80’s and most
promoters care about gimmicks these days like Extreme Air Wrestling using their
double stacked rings which he thought was ridiculous. Rayo said that he doesn’t
like extreme style wrestling because he thinks it’s a cheap way of getting blood
and basically has no drama like the matches in the 80’s where everything meant
something and the blood & injuries was out of real aggression. Rayo said that in
his opinion the last great rivalry in Mexico was his against Cien Caras because
every fan knew that when they were at their peak they knew they were getting
both men giving everything they had in the ring. Rayo said that the fans were
deeply involved in this rivalry and their emotion drove both him & Cien to leave
it all in the ring. Rayo was asked if he felt strange not being involved in any
of the latest Anniversary shows at Arena Mexico and he said that he thinks that
they should bring back some of the legends to show the respect they deserve like
the WWE does in the United States. Rayo said that WWE having a Hall of Fame is a
great way for the younger fans to learn about the legends of yesteryear that
built the wrestling business and he really respects that. Rayo was asked about
Paco Alonso and said that he has a good relationship with him but Paco doesn’t
want to use him as a wrestler because of him wanting to go with younger guys
which he understands.
