THIS WEEK IN WRESTLING

By Zach Levine on 10/10/2009 9:52 AM
Hey everyone in wrestling land. Will a little cold prevent me from writing bout wrestling this week? No sir, let's get to it.

1. I did a Hell in a Cell recap for the site on Monday, so I'll try not to repeat myself too much here. The one lingering thought I have from that night though was Punk's burial in the opener. It was basically a squash match. He either really did piss someone off or the WWE has no faith in him. Sad to see, but if Vince really wants Taker-Batista to carry the Smackdown for the rest of the year, let's see how the ratings respond.

2. Thought Big Ben did a great job as the Raw GM this week. And as a RU alum, real happy to see Darnell Stapleton in the ring with him as well. See when you get guest hosts who follow the product, you get good results. When you get someone along the lines of Al Sharpton or ZZ Top, well you catch my drift. I will say that when the WWE is in Cleveland, I think Travis Hafner should get his gear ready to be the guest GM.

3. I remember watching Wrestlemania 12 live, and I didn't think the Bret Hart-HBK match was all that special. Kinda boring actually, hence why all ironman matches in recent years haven't had the 0-0 score through 60 minutes I guess. But Cena-Orton adding the no dq or countout situation could make it interesting. Throw in a falls count anywhere stipulation and this match could be off the charts.

4. Bless Christian, that guy makes ECW watchable. His skit at the intro was great. I know it is getting a bit repetitive on the show, but least Capt. Charisma is getting some publicity there. I'm actually excited now to see the inevitable Christian vs. Yoshi Tatsu match for the ECW title. Not saying Yoshi should win, but least it'll be interesting.

5. By the way, guess the new girl is announcing ECW. Funny that even the ring announcers have to start there. But she did an okay job. Some points it sounded like she had no idea how to sound out the wrestler's names, but obviously a work in progress here.

6. I was glad to see TNA give Amazing Red the X division belt this week. Great talent he is. From what I've seen of him in his recent TNA stint, he gives off the vibe of a Morrison/Bourne combination. Curious now to see how TNA follows through with him. Perhaps a feud with one of the most over guys on the TNA roster, D'Angelo Dinero?

7. I'll give credit to where credit is due again. TNA is using Richards better than the WWE used him in 7 years. Hell they even gave him a valet with Daffney. I'm intruiged by the special guest referee situation, and maybe he can add a neat dynamic to the Monster's Ball Match.

8. Look, I understand that he may be "perfection" but Dolph Ziggler needs to win a match soon. And by the way, with him constantly losing, who is next to step up for the IC title? Do we throw in Knox, McIntyre, or even Kane for that matter? Personally I'd like to see a redo of the Carlito-Cena storyline, with Escobar debuting and winning the belt that very night.

9. Hey, and would you look at DX taking on Jerishow. Still rooting for that DX victory following a feud with the Hart Dynasty. Make it happen, c'mon WWE. Time to elevate another tag team.

10. And I have been thinking about this a lot lately. With the way the WWE is going, I decided that we, the PWInsider Universe, should be able to determine their next PPV. Here are the five options. Please send your favorites and I will announce the winner next week. Enjoy and send all answers to zachlevine86@gmail.com. Thanks all.
