LOOKING AT TNA'S OPPORTUNITY THIS SUNDAY WITH BOUND FOR GLORY
By Tood Oblak on 10/16/2009 2:36 PM
TNA has the opportunity to really stand out from what WWE is doing and
show themselves as the future of wrestling. Now, will they do it with
Ferrara/Russo running the show? Doubtful. But here is how I would book
the show that has so much potential to make the company......I would
want all TNA homegrown talents to win on this PPV to set them apart from
the former WWE / WCW / ECW guys.
Ultimate X - Suicide, Daniels, Homicide, Pope & Amazing Red
I'd start the show with the Ultimate X match. 2 years ago I was in ATL
for BFG and starting the show off with the Ultimate X match got the show
off to a rocking start. I'd have some focus on the Suicide/Pope feud
but also let Homicide have some of the spotlight. Since turning on
Hernandez and joining WE, Homicide's character has taken a nice turn and
I'd like to see him get over more. In the end though, Red needs to win
this match. He just got the title and I like seeing him being the lucky
underdog (TNA's answer to Rey Mysterio).
Knockouts Tag Championship - Beautiful People v Taylor & Sarita
The Beautiful People need the win here. Velvet & Madison win with
Lacey's help.
TNA Legends Championship - Hernandez v Eric Young v Nash
First off, I don't know who thought it was a good idea to call something
the "Legends" title, makes it sound like the only people that should
hold it are old wrestlers past their prime. I'd use this to get over
Eric Young as a top heel. Nash could get a face push if the Mafia
breaks up soon. I've been liking his new "all about the money"
character lately and they could do an angle where Young screws him over
after offering double the money Angle was offering and get the win.
Monster's Ball - Foley vs Abyss
I figure 2 matches between the chaos of Ultimate X and Monster's Ball is
enough. This one gets violent and bloody. Abyss needs to get the win
here at the biggest PPV of the year. Foley needs to pass the hardcore
torch. I'd say let Abyss take out everyone, including Daffney to end
this one, and of course, rescue Lauren.
Knockout's Championship - Awesome Kong v Tara v ODB
It's time for Kong to take the title again. ODB has been lackluster as
champion and frankly her character is a little out there for me. Tara
is doing a good job in her role, but the way they have booked this
leading up to this match, it's time for Kong to get the win and the
title back.
TNA/IWGP Tag Championships - Beer Money v 3D v Mafia v British Invasion
I'd give the nod here to the British Invasion. They've done such a good
job with the WE solidifying themselves recently as contenders, I'd let
them get both belts. Magnus get the TNA belts and Williams get the IWGP
belts. I'd really like to see 3D and the Mafia battle to the back and
just let the Invasion and Beer Money duke it out until it comes down to
a fight on the ladder that the British Invasion win. This way, you
build up a Beer Money/British Invasion feud for the future.
To stray away from the WWE formula of having the main events be
sprinkled throughout the card, I'd go with a more UFC formula of putting
them in sequence to the end.
MMA v TNA - Samoa Joe v Lashley
A wrestling match that features mat wrestling, Joe's signature dive, a
top rope stray from the norm for Lashley and an all-out brawl that ends
with the debut of Mr. Anderson. Have them brawling on the outside, ref
go down when he tries to get between them and Lashley gets too close to
the audience, one member of the crowd hits him over the head and knocks
him out, then takes off the disguise to reveal Mr. Anderson. He looks
at Joe and smiles and Joe throws Lashley in the ring and puts on the
submission and the ref coming to and sees that Lashley is unconscious
and calls for the bell. This way, both men are still viewed well but
Joe gets the surprise win and also continues my trend of TNA homegrown
talents winning all matches. This could also start the feud between
Anderson & Lashley. See how this would work on TV: at No Way Out 2007,
Anderson fought Lashley for the ECW title but won by DQ after Lashley
attacked him with a chair....then Lashley went on to be the chosen one
for Trump to face McMahon ("he must've been impressed with you savagely
beating another man") and McMahon was going to pick Anderson to face
Lashley but McMahon chose Umaga instead ("a guy who didn't get beat
senseless and viciously on PPV). So Lashley and Umaga went on to
headline PPVs and Anderson tried to fight his way back into the main
event picture from there on, winning the MITB match at Mania but losing
that to Edge before he could even cash it in. He could rant on about
how he never forgot how he was beaten viciously out of the main event
spot by Lashley and he has waited for the time to be right to get his
vengeance. I think it's just enough out there that it could work.
Future v Best - Angle v Morgan
There can't be any other ending to this other than a clean Morgan win.
He has reached the level to beat Angle, it's believable and needs to
happen. Maybe have some of the Mafia come out, but have guys like Team
3D, etc. stop them to allow Morgan to win clean so Angle has no excuses
why he lost.
TNA Title - Styles v Sting
The last 3 years, Sting has won the title at BFG. The title has also
changed hands at all 4 BFG PPVs. They are saying this could be Sting's
last match but I've also heard that he's still with the company for a
few more months. If this were Sting's last match, I'd have it run a
very similar course that Flair/HBK ran for Flair's "last" match. I'd
have Styles be sorry that he was ending Sting's career but needing that
win to prove to himself that he could do it. If this is not Sting's
last match (which I don't think it is), here is how I would book it:
I say have Sting catch Styles with the splash but also accidentally
catch the referee too and when Sting is going for the deathlock to have
the match won, have Samoa Joe come down and jump in the ring and lay out
Sting with some kind of foreign object, chair or pipe or whatever.
Styles starts to get up and Joe catches him with the muscle buster. Joe
picks up Styles and puts him on Sting and the ref comes back to and
Styles gets the win. The ref doesn't know what happened and Joe leaves
smirking. Styles beats Sting but only because of Joe. Now Styles is
not happy with the win, Sting is mad that Joe took his shot and Joe
thinks Sting's career is over because of him (no one should forget that
Sting got kicked out of the Mafia because Joe joined and he said it's
because of punks like Joe why the Mafia started), but Sting can say
later that he's gonna stay to kick Joe's butt. This immediately starts
a feud for later matches between the 3. Styles could say Sting didn't
get his fair shot and they could have another match later and Styles
would feud with Joe for the title. Again, homegrown TNA talents, I
would like to see that used to be friends now feuding over the top title
in the company. Sting can have his last match in the future when he's
actually ready to hang it up.
