PREVIEWING THE WEC 44: BROWN VS. ALDO PRELIMINARY CARD

WEC Bantamweight Division Fight

Seth “2 Quik” Dikun (7-3-0) vs. Frank Gomez (7-1-0)

Seth Dikun has had an interesting run in the WEC thus far, defeating Rolando Perez and suffering a lone defeat to Charlie Valencia. Seth Dikun has also fought in the highly touted Palace Fighting Championships promotion, defeating Angelo Antuna. This fight against Frank Gomez will mark the third fight of 2009 for Seth Dikun, with all the fights coming in the WEC promotion. Seth Dikun will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with four victories coming by way of submission. Frank Gomez is a fighter who has had a back and forth run in the WEC, defeating Noah Thomas and losing to Scott Jorgensen. Frank Gomez is a veteran of the Global Knockout promotion, defeating both Elbert Randle and Brandon Jinnies. Frank Gomez started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with an six fight undefeated streak that lasted two years. Frank Gomez will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with four victories coming by knockout.

WEC Lightweight Division Fight

Ricardo Lamas (6-1-0) vs. James Krause (10-1-0)

Ricardo Lamas has had an up and down run in the WEC, defeating Bart Palaszewski and suffering a defeat to Danny Castillo. Ricardo Lamas is also a veteran of the Warriors Collide promotion, where he defeated the duo of James Birdsley and Gabe Miranda. Ricardo Lamas started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a six fight undefeated streak that lasted over a year. Ricardo Lamas will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with two victories coming by way of submission. In his WEC debut at WEC 41 in June 2009, James Krause lost to WEC veteran Donald Cerrone by submission. James Krause is a veteran of the International Fighting Championships promotion, where he defeated Dan Copp, Ran Weathers and Tim Bazer. James Krause began his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a ten fight undefeated streak that lasted nearly two years. James Krause will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eight victories coming by way of submission.

WEC Bantamweight Division Fight

Antonio Banuelos (16-5-0) vs. Kenji Osawa (15-8-2)

Antonio Banuelos is a longtime veteran of WEC competition, defeating Mike Lindquist, Ed Tomaselli, James Cottrell, Cole Escovedo, Mike French, Justin Robins and Scott Jorgensen, while suffering defeats to Jeff Bedard, Eddie Wineland and Charlie Valencia. Early in his MMA career, Antonio Banuelos went on an eight fight winning streak that lasted over three years. Antonio Banuelos will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Kenji Osawa has had an interesting run in the WEC, where he fought the likes of Chris Manuel, Scott Jorgensen and Rafael Rebello. Kenji Osawa is a longtime veteran of the Shooto promotion in Japan, where fifteen of his twenty five professional fights occurred in. Kenji Osawa will be riding a two fight winning streak into the promotion, the first such streak of his career in over four years. Kenji Osawa is a fighter known for taking fights the distance, with nine victories coming by decision.

WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Cub Swanson (13-3-0) vs. John Franchi (5-1-0)

Cub Swanson has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Tommy Lee, Micah Miller and Hiroyuki Takaya, while suffering defeats to Jens Pulver and Jose Aldo. Cub Swanson is also a longtime veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion, where he holds a victory over UFC veteran Shannon Gugerty. Cub Swanson had an astounding eleven fight winning streak early in his career, which lasted over three years. Cub Swanson will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission. John Franchi has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Mike Budnik and suffering a defeat to Manny Gamburyan. John Franchi has also spent some time in the now defunct International Fight League promotion, where he defeated Frank Latina. John Franchi started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a five fight undefeated streak that lasted nearly two years. John Franchi is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with four victories coming by knockout and submission.

My Prediction: Cub Swanson

WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Diego “The Gun” Nunes (13-0-0) vs. LC Davis (14-2-0)

Diego Nunes is an undefeated fighter who already holds victories over the likes of Cole Province and Rafael Dias in WEC competition. Diego Nunes is also a veteran of the GP Tornado MMA promotion, where he defeated Michel Michel, Lindomar Silva and Jorge Dos Santos Velho. Diego Nunes is currently riding a thirteen fight undefeated streak that has currently lasted over five years. Diego Nunes is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with eleven victories coming by knockout and submission. LC Davis made his WEC debut at WEC 42 in August 2009, by defeating Javier Vasquez by split decision. LC Davis has also fought in the International Fight League promotion, defeating Jay Estrada, Conor Heun and Rafael Dias, while suffering a defeat to Waggney Fabiano. LC Davis also competed once in the Sengoku promotion, losing to Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision. LC Davis is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with eleven victories coming by knockout and submission.

WEC Lightweight Division Fight

Kamal Shalorus (4-0-1) vs. Will Kerr (7-1-0)

Kamal Shalorus will be making his WEC debut in this fight, but he will be entering the fight on a four fight undefeated streak that lasted over a year. Kamal Shalorus is a veteran of the King Of Kombat promotion, where he fought the likes of Jeff Davis and Mikel Bronzoulis. This fight against Will Kerr will mark the fourth fight of 2009 for Kamal Shalorus and his second fight in six months. Kamal Shalorus will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with three victories coming by knockout. Will Kerr will also be making his WEC debut in this fight, but he is entering the fight with a four fight winning streak. Will Kerr is a longtime veteran of the Full Force Productions promotion, where he defeated Nick Luongo, Jack Wilmarth, Matt Perry, Douglas Brown and Marc Stevens. This fight for Will Kerr will mark the first time he has fought in over a year, so conditioning could become a factor in the fight. Will Kerr is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with four victories coming by knockout and submission.
