PREVIEWING THE UFC 106: ORTIZ VS. GRIFFIN II SPIKE TV CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/19/2009 11:51 PM
UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove (10-6-0) vs. Jake Rosholt (6-1-0)

Kendall Grove got into the UFC after winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 3, where he defeated Ed Herman in the finals. In his following UFC fights, Kendall Grove defeated Chris Price, Alan Belcher, Evan Tanner and Jason Day, while suffering defeats to Patrick Cote, Jorge Rivera and Ricardo Almeida. Before entering the UFC in 2006, Kendall Grove fought other UFC veterans like Hector Ramirez, Savant Young and Joe Riggs. Kendall Grove will be looking to put this fight on the ground, with six previous victories coming by way of submission. Jake Rosholt has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Chris Leben and suffering a defeat to Dan Miller. Jake Rosholt is also a veteran of the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he defeated Nissen Osterneck at WEC 36. Jake Rosholt started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a five fight undefeated streak that lasted over a year. Of his seven professional fights, none have gone to a decision for Jake Rosholt, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Jake Rosholt will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with four victories coming by way of knockout.

My Prediction: Kendall Grove

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Ben “Killa B” Saunders (7-1-2) vs. “The Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis (16-5-0)

Ben Saunders has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Daniel Barrera, Ryan Thomas and Brandon Wolff, while suffering a lone defeat to Mike Swick. Ben Saunders is also a veteran of the Absolute Fighting Championships promotion, where he fought UFC veteran Crafton Wallace. Ben Saunders started off his professional MMA career in an auspicious way, with his first two fights both ending in a draw. Following those two draws, Ben Saunders went on a seven fight winning streak that lasted over three years. Ben Saunders is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with six victories coming by knockout and submission. Marcus Davis is a longtime veteran of UFC competition, having defeated Forrest Petz, Shonie Carter, Pete Spratt, Jason Tan, Paul Taylor, Jess Liaudin, Paul Kelly and Chris Lytle, while suffering defeats to Mike Swick, Melvin Guillard and Dan Hardy. This fight against Ben Saunders will mark the first time in over two years that Marcus Davis has competed in a UFC fight on American soil. Prior to coming to the UFC in late 2005, Marcus Davis once fought UFC veteran Thiago Alves at a Hardcore Fighting Championships event. Marcus Davis will be looking to use his ground and pound skills to win the fight, with eight victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Marcus Davis
