LOOKING AT THE NEW CLASS IN WWE

By Michele Villery on 12/1/2009 10:47 AM

I haven’t been watching wrestling on a regular basis in about three years.

Like a lot of you, I got tired of the rehashed storylines with good characters that seemingly went nowhere instead of going towards something.

I got tired of seeing the same people in the main event over and over again with younger mid-carders patiently waiting in the background for an “opportunity”  to come up, only to in some cases either not capitalize or simply not given a way ‘to’ capitalize on what was presented to them.

But a few weeks ago that all changed for me personally when I watched Rey Mysterio and John Morrison in a Intercontinental Championship Match that should have been on a PPV on Smackdown.

It was one of the best matches that I had seen in a very long time and both performers performed brilliantly.

Granted as Johnny Nitro, John Morrison, had held the belt before, but I didn’t really start to follow Smackdown regularly until after this match.

Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntrye, C.M. Punk and  Morrison along with the veterans on that show every week,  consistently put on very good matches.

On Raw, Kofi Kingston (Johnson) is another one who is been getting over with a great storyline between he and Randy Orton. It’s fresh, fun rivalry and I for one am looking forward to seeing for the first time in a long time what’s going to happened between them next.

I admit I wasn’t a fan of the Miz when he first came onto WWE programming.  I was a fan of reality star Mike Mizarian.

That is, until I found The Dirt Sheet.  Granted it was months after the draft, but his mic skills and his now improving ring skills, are making him one of my favorites to watch each and every week.

Personally, I like what WWE is doing of late. I didn’t watch wrestling at all and for me, this is bringing me back in slowly.  Too early to say, but I really liked the tone of both Survivor Series and Raw last week.  New stars are being pushed and I liked the different pairings last week. I never thought I’d see DX v. The Hart Dynasty.  Alternatively, seeing Sheamus win the No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal was also a surprise.

Jesse Ventura, in my opinion was so far the best guest host yet.   He and Vince brought back many entertaining memories of the two of them doing play by play.  Now, if Vince only had brought back that powder blue suit…

I hope they continue to do what their doing and that is establish new stars.  I do not envy WWE’s Creative Job at all. They have a ton of talent, a wealth  of developmental talent waiting in the wings, and all of us who are giving them differing opinions on who and what we want to see.  Try putting that all together in either a weekly two-hour show or a monthly PPV in a way to entertain us all, well…like I said, I don’t envy them one bit.

I don’t know how long I’ll watch, but I’ll be watching. Thanks for bringing an old viewer back.
