PREVIEWING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER 10 FINALE PRELIMINARY CARD

By David Tees on 12/3/2009 10:46 AM
UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Mark Bocek (7-2-0) vs. Joe “The Southside Strangler” Brammer (7-0-1)

Mark Bocek has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Doug Evans, Alvin Robinson and David Bielkheden, while suffering defeats to Frankie Edgar and Mac Danzig. Mark Bocek also went undefeated in the King Of The Cage promotion, defeating Garett Davis and John Mahlow. Of his nine professional fights, only one has gone to a decision, which speaks to the finishing abilities of Mark Bocek. Mark Bocek will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with five previous victories coming by submission. Joe Brammer is an undefeated fighter who will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the Glory Fighting Championships promotion. While in the Glory Fighting Championships, Joe Brammer defeated Kendrick Johnson, Marshall Blevins and Allen Hernandez, while fighting Alonzo Martinez to a draw. Joe Brammer will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with five victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Mark Bocek

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

John “Doomsday” Howard (12-4-0) vs. Dennis “Superman” Hallman (41-12-2)

John Howard has gone undefeated thus far in UFC competition, defeating the duo of Tamdan McCrory and Chris Wilson. John Howard has also competed in the now defunct International Fight League, where he defeated Nick Calandrino. Before coming to the UFC in early 2009, John Howard fought other UFC veterans like Dan Miller and Nick Catone. John Howard will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission. Dennis Hallman is a longtime veteran of MMA competition, having fought the likes of Matt Hughes, Caol Uno, Dave Menne, Jens Pulver, Denis Kang, Frank Trigg, Drew Fickett, Ron Jhun, Rory Singer and Jorge Rivera. Dennis Hallman has also made a few appearances in the Strikeforce promotion, where he defeated Justin Davis and Jeremiah Metcalf. This fight against John Howard will mark the first time in over four years that Dennis Hallman has competed in the UFC, with his last UFC appearance coming at UFC 55. Dennis Hallman will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with thirty two victories coming by submission.

My Prediction Dennis Hallman

UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

“All American” Brian Stann (7-2-0) vs. Rodney “Sho Nuff The Master” Wallace (9-0-0)

Brian Stann has had an interesting run in the UFC, suffering a defeat to Kryzstoff Sozsynski and attaining a victory over Steve Cantwell. Brian Stann had a ton of success in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he defeated Steve Cantwell, Miguel Cosio, Craig Zellner, Jeremiah Billington and Doug Marshall. While in the WEC promotion, Brian Stann did become the WEC Light Heavyweight Champion after defeating Doug Marshall at WEC 33. Brian Stann will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with six victories coming by knockout. Rodney Wallace is an undefeated fighter who will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but is a veteran of the Vendetta Fighting Championships and Revolution Fight Club promotions. While in those promotions, Rodney Wallace defeated Wesley Cantillo, Ovince St. Preux, Carlos Zevallos, Mike Brown, Gregory Milliard, Aaron Stark and Antwain Britt. This fight against Brian Stann will mark the six fight on 2009 for Rodney Wallace and his fourth in three months. Rodney Wallace will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with two victories coming by submission.

My Prediction: Brian Stann

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Jon Madsen (1-0-0) vs. Justin Wren (6-1-0)

In his lone professional MMA fight, Jon Madsen defeated Ryan Kotzea by unanimous decision at a TCI Shockwave event in 2008. Since that fight, Jon Madsen has been a part of the cast for the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10, which saw Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub make it to the finals. Jon Madsen will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with his past experiences as an amateur wrestler. Justin Wren will also be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he was also a member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10 cast. Justin Wren was a veteran of the Art Of War promotion, where he defeated Justin Howard and suffered a defeat to Matt Thompson. Justin Wren will be entering the fight riding a three fight winning streak and hasn’t suffered a defeat in over two years. Justin Wren will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with five victories coming by way of knockout.

My Prediction: Justin Wren

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Darrill Schoonover (10-0-0) vs. James “The Machine” McSweeney (3-4-0)

Darrill Schoonover will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he already holds a victory over Strikeforce veteran Rex Richards. Darrill Schoonover was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10, which saw Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub make it to the finals. Of his ten professional fights, none have gone to a decision for Darrill Schoonover, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Darrill Schoonover is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with ten victories coming by knockout and submission. James McSweeney will be the first fighter in a long time to enter a UFC fight with a losing record, he was also a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10. Before entering the UFC in 2009, James McSweeney had already fought such UFC veterans as Neil Grove and Mustapha Al-Turk. It has been over a year since James McSweeney last won an MMA fight and he will be entering the fight on a two fight losing streak. James McSweeney will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with all of his victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Darrill Schoonover
