GREENFIELD REVIEW: TNA FINAL RESOLUTION PREVIEW

By Charlie Greenfield on 12/20/2009 10:35 AM

Hello, welcome to this week’s edition of the Greenfield Review. This week’s edition will be previewing TNA’s final PPV of the year Final Resolution. I will also be reviewing a much better edition of TNA Impact, Wrestler Pick and also my thoughts on who could be the right person to lead the Creative direction in TNA wrestling.

TNA wrestling presents its final PPV of the year this Sunday and could well be a defining moment for the company, with all the expected changes coming into the company in the New Year. TNA presents Final Resolution and the PPV card itself looks to be a very solid line up. I think that Final Resolution does have the capabilities to have even better matches than TNA Turning Point last month. TNA has announced 8 matches for the event and will feature the Feast and Fired match. This has now become a tradition in the company, where they have 4 suitcases on poles and 3 have titles shots (TNA World Title, X Title and TNA Tag Titles). There is also a suitcase that has the word Fired inside, where one wrestler will be fired from TNA.
Here is a breakdown of the line up for the show, with my match predictions:
·         Feast or Fired Match – This match is going to feature the likes of Beer Money, Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash and Eric Young, plus more. I think this match is a bit pointless for the likes of Samoa Joe, but at least they have given them a reason for entering the match, sacrificing their job for a shot at a title. I see this match having lots of high spots, but not much of a spectacle. I see Samoa Joe getting the World Title Shot, Kevin Nash a Tag Title shot and Homicide X Title match. The person I can see getting fired from TNA is Cody Deaner.

·         Raven and Dr Stevie Vs Mick Foley and Abyss – This is going to be a match with lots of blood, hardcore action and some dangerous spots in the match. TNA usually does this type of match, to please the hardcore fan base. I think Mick Foley and Abyss will win the match and ending the feud with Raven and Dr Stevie.

·         Tara Vs ODB for the TNA Knock Outs Title- This should be a very good knockouts match, but the build up has been a bit bizarre. But I think they will both deliver a solid match. Roxxi looks to be next in line for a shot at the title. I do see Tara winning the match and becoming the new TNA Knockouts Champion.

·         Team 3D, Rhino and Jesse Neal Vs Matt Morgan, Hernandez, The Pope and Suicide – I think this match will be a very good Elimination match. I think the feud has been very good and very well planned out. I think this has been an evenly balanced feud but think the storyline does need to end at this PPV. I see Matt Morgan’s team winning the match.

·         Last Man Standing Match Scott Steiner Vs Bobby Lashley - I think the feud between these two has been very good. Scott Steiner has had the upper edge in the feud since beating Lashley at Turning Point. I think this match will be a brawl around the Impact Zone, with lots of hard hitting wrestling. I see Bobby Lashley winning this match because it is time to build him up as a main contender to the TNA World Title in the New Year.

·         Motor City Machine Guns Vs British Invasion for TNA Tag Titles – This is one of the matches, I am most looking forward too because on paper it should be a very good tag team match. I hope this is the match where they give the MCMG a chance to have the Tag Titles because they are one of the top tag teams in TNA and do deserve to have them after waiting for so long in the dark. So I predict the MCMG get the Tag Titles.

·         Three Degrees of Pain, Kurt Angle Vs Desmond Wolfe – This is the match I expect to deliver. The last match between these two was one of the best matches TNA has done all year and the chemistry between Kurt Angle and Wolfe is very strong. The way they have been building Desmond Wolfe since coming to TNA, is by they have made him look like a legit star trying to make an Impact in the business. I have been impressed since seeing him come to TNA and think he has potential to be a top main event guy for TNA. Kurt Angle is the best wrestler in the world and has shown why he is still a class of his own. I think this match will be won by Kurt Angle.

·         AJ Styles Vs Daniels for TNA World Title – This is something that I wished TNA had done earlier in the year. Having these two face off in the main event on a PPV. But it is good to finally see them face off, this Sunday in a Main Event at Final Resolution. I think AJ Styles has been a good world champion, but sometimes he has been booked very poorly by Vince Russo. I see this match being one of the better matches on the show and both have wrestled so many times. So it is expected they deliver another good match. AJ Styles for me has to stay the World Champion. Kurt Angle looks like he will be next in line for a title shot.
This week’s TNA impact leading into the PPV was a much better show than last week. I thought the show had a very good match between Desmond Wolfe and Daniels. This match showed both the technical side of Desmond Wolfe but also Daniels fast pace wrestling. I thought the match was well laid out and really enjoyed it. The storylines on the show were very intriguing, Jeff Jarrett making his return to the show in almost 5 months, where he was asking for his job back in TNA.
I liked how they planned this out, with a meeting with Dixie Carter, outlining he wants his job back and apologised for what he did. Dixie Carter as an on air character is still hard to get used too but do think it will need adjusting a bit more about her role as a character, when Hulk Hogan comes in. I thought the tension between Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett was kept short and sweet. I thought the knockouts match between ODB and Roxxi was a very good match. Roxxi is one of my favourite knockouts because she is tough and is generally a very good women wrestler.
Wrestler Pick
This week’s wrestler pick is Matt Morgan. Matt Morgan has been in TNA since 2007, when Jim Cornette suggested bringing him into TNA. He was brought in as a body guard to Jim Cornette when he first started in TNA. But since being in TNA, he has shown a lot of potential to be a legit top star for TNA. The size factor is one of the main reasons because he is a legit athlete. Matt Morgan is one the top wrestlers in TNA and is one of the wrestlers that Dixie Carter would like to see get a push in TNA. I see him having the potential, but with the way things are booked in TNA, I don’t see him getting much of a big push. Matt Morgan’s match against Kurt Angle at Bound for Glory was the best match he has ever had in his career and really thought that was the match that made him.
The final part of this week’s Greenfield Review is about potential candidate to replace Vince Russo from creative in TNA, if he were to be sacked. The person I think would be the best person for the job would be Paul Heyman. I think he has one of the best wrestling minds in the business and has had experience booking in ECW and WWE. When he used to book Smackdown, they were the best wrestling show each week. Paul Heyman has lots of knowledge in the business and knows how to get the best out of what talent he has got. I think with the current TNA roster in place, he could book some of the best wrestling shows around and could help give TNA identity, which Vince Russo struggles to do.
