PREVIEWING THE UFC 108: EVANS VS. SILVA SPIKE TV CARD

By David Tees on 12/31/2009 1:16 PM
UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Cole “Magrino” Miller (15-4-0) vs. Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon (12-2-0)

Cole Miller has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Andy Wang, Leonard Garcia, Jorge Gurgel and Junie Browning, while suffering defeats to Jeremy Stephens and Efrain Escudero. Cole Miller is also a veteran of the Full Throttle promotion, where he defeated Harris Norwood, Chris Mickle, Tim Honeycutt, Jarrett Becks and Joe Germain, while suffering a lone defeat to Josh Odom. Cole Miller got into the UFC after being a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5, which was won by Nate Diaz. Cole Miller will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with ten previous MMA victories coming by way of submission. Dan Lauzon returns to the UFC after a three years absence, where he lost to Spencer King by TKO at UFC 64. To this day, Dan Lauzon holds the UFC record as the youngest fighter ever to compete in the promotion. Dan Lauzon will be entering the fight riding an eight fight winning streak, which has lasted over two years. Dan Lauzon is a veteran of the World Championship fighting promotion, where he defeated Wayne Harnois, Frank Latina, Brendan Hoxie and Justin Hammertrum. Dan Lauzon also competed at the final Affliction MMA event, where he defeated Bobby Green by submission. Dan Lauzon is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with all of his victories coming by knockout and submission.

My Prediction: Dan Lauzon

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann (15-3-0) vs. Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann (9-1-0)

Martin Kampmann has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Crafton Wallace, Thales Leitas, Drew McFedries, Jorge Rivera, Alexandre Barros and Carlos Condit, while suffering defeats to Nate Marquardt and Paul Daley. Prior to entering the UFC in mid-2006, Martin Kampmann had already defeated UFC veteran Xavier Foupa-Pokam at a European Vale Tudo event. Martin Kampmann started off his career in impressive fashion, with a four fight undefeated streak that lasted over a year. Martin Kampmann is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with twelve victories coming by knockout and submission. Jacob Volkmann made his UFC debut at UFC 106, suffering a defeat to Paulo Thiago by unanimous decision. Prior to the loss to Paulo Thiago, Jacob Volkmann was on a nine fight undefeated streak that lasted over two years. Jacob Volkmann was a veteran of the Max Fights promotion, where he defeated both Wayne Hajicek and Travis McCullough. Jacob Volkmann also appeared in the first season of the Bellator Fighting Championships, where he defeated Kevin Knabjian. Jacob Volkmann will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six of his previous victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Martin Kampmann
