PREVIEWING THE STRIKEFORCE: MIAMI EA SPORTS.COM FIGHT

By David Tees on 1/28/2010 8:35 PM
Strikeforce Welterweight Division Fight

Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (18-4-0) vs. Joe “Diesel” Riggs (32-10-0)

Jay Hieron is currently undefeated in Strikeforce competition, having defeated UFC veteran Jesse Taylor in August 2009. Jay Hieron was a longtime veteran of the International Fight League, where he defeated Jake Ellenberger, Amos Sotelo, Victor Moreno, Donnie Liles, Delson Heleno and Mark Miller, while suffering defeats to Chris Wilson and Brad Blackburn. Jay Hieron entered Strikeforce after the Affliction promotion went under, while in Affliction, Jay Hieron did score a victory over Jason High. Jay Hieron did have an unsuccessful run in the UFC, suffering defeats to Jonathan Goulet and Georges St. Pierre. Jay Hieron is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with eleven victories coming by knockout and submission. Joe Riggs has had a successful run in the Strikeforce promotion, defeating Eugene Jackson, Luke Stewart and Phil Baroni, while suffering defeats to Cory Devela and Kazou Misaki. Joe Riggs also had a long run in the UFC, having gained victories over Joe Doerkson, Chris Lytle, Nick Diaz and Jason Von Flue, while suffering defeats to Ivan Salaverry, Matt Hughes, Mike Swick and Diego Sanchez. Joe Riggs has also competed in the Rage In The Cage promotion, where nineteen of his forty two career fights occurred in. Joe Riggs finished off the year 2009 in impressive fashion, defeating both David Barnes and Nick Almen in a single week. Joe Riggs is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with twenty nine victories coming by knockout and submission.

My Prediction: Jay Hieron
