ROYAL RUMBLE 2010-TIME TO PLAY A NEW GAME?

January 24 th 1988 – The WWE first ever Royal Rumble was held at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton Ontario now some 22 years later we move onto the Phillips Arena in Atlanta GA in what could well be the start of a new generation in the WWE. We have seen an avalanche of exciting new talent emerge in the WWE over the last 12 months, with a lot more excellent prospects in FCW 2010 could well be the birth of a new start in the WWE.
The PPV itself offers many possibilities as to what could headline the main event at Wrestlemania and what new stars can emerge and grow ready for the big push in 2010. I am going to give my prediction and what the future could be for certain superstars over the coming year
Christian Vs Ezekiel Jackson
This match has been getting rave reviews in house shows and could well be a highlight this year. Christian is without a doubt one of the most solid workers and under used talents in the WWE. He has had the longest reign as ECW champion (since the new brand started) and now I think he is ready to fulfill that excellent potential and move to SD in2010? Reuniting with Edge? Who knows but if the WWE are going to do anything with Christian this has to be the year.
Ezek on the other hand is a monster very raw but again with the right push and direction could really make a big statement this year. He has been under the guidance of William Regal who is one of the best teachers going and unlike Vladimir has some personality about him. The only concern I have is can he last a 15+ minute match, I don’t know and don’t think we will know at the rumble never the less he certainly looks like he could be a major force this year.
We regards to the match I can see this being a bit of a mixture of Christian using a speed and knowledge of the ring and Ezek trying to slow the pace down a bit using big power moves. Regal interference is likely although I hope not and I think we will see a new champ crowned
Winner: Ezek
The Undertaker Vs Rey Mysterio
Smackdown’s Biggest Little Man takes on the Deadman for the world title. This match would have been a must watch a few years ago, now due to both guys being seriously injured and time not being on their side it will be a shadow of what potentially could be. The Undertaker, battling a severe hip injury has really struggled in matches as of late and has been limited to doing mainly promo’s with as little ring action as possible. Speculation as always is pointing to retirement but I believe we will be seeing the Deadman for a good few years yet or be it with slightly more limited schedule. Rey on the other hand has knee issues which he hopes to resolve after Wrestlemania has apparently stated he only has another two – three years left in him before he retires. Both men are major players in the WWE and will be sorely missed when they leave for their respected surgeries. In terms of what the future holds of both of these I expect lengthy time off until maybe Summerslam , a move for the under taker in the draft? A possibility but unlikely. I could get this match totally wrong in terms of quality and expect the usual exciting Rey spots but I think it’ll all be in vain as the deadman will roll into Elimination Chamber the champion
Winner The Undertaker
Michelle McCool Vs Mickie James
The woman’s title match offers nothing for me other then the culmination of this feud. The mic work last week was fantastic well from Maria anyway, but the feud has been well put together although slightly childish. What does 2010 hold for the divas? I don’t know but WWE will have to pull the finger out with TNA and the knockouts going live the divas have it all to do to reignite their division. In terms of the match, it will be solid both divas are probably the best that WWE has to offer expect interference from Layla and Maria with Mickie ultimately picking up the win
Winner Mickie James
Randy Orton V Sheamus
This match potentially has many endings, all of which can change the winner of royal rumble match. Sheamus (the breakout of 2009) shocked the world when he defeated John Cena for the title at TLC has offered little since then prompting many people to speculate that he is not ready to main event and WWE have pushed him to quickly. I believe that Sheamus has the look and potentially could be a major star but he needs to dominate the main event players instead of the mid carders Its possible he could be moved in the draft however I see him staying on Raw for the time being. Randy on the other was my wrestler of the year. He was amazing last year adapting to his “viper” character and had some classic matches and solid title runs. Recently Randy has been elevating talent such has Kofi Kingston and with Legacy on its lasts legs and a feud possibly with DiBiase on the cards .The match itself should be interesting in terms of fan reaction and Mania Possibilities. Randy will be way over as the face in this match it will be interesting to see how he reacts to this I can see a very slow pace to this match cant won’t be a spectacle and I think Randy will end up on top
Winner: Randy Orton
Royal Rumble 2010
Without a doubt the most interesting rumble in years so many potential winners. It has focused on HBK wanting to ring to go and face the undertaker at mania and HHH wanting back in the game. If you look at the young talent on show that has come up last year, Miz, McIntyre, Morrison, Kofi, and Bourne the list goes on. An Edge return is possible to eliminated Y2J from the equation.RVD? I really hope so . Although I can see the WWE playing it safe and having either HHH or HBK win it, I would love to see WWE to throw a real curve ball and have Ted DiBiase to win the rumble for many reasons. The shock factor for one and mainly because the possibilities that can arise from him winning. He can either go on to face his mentor for the title or a career elevating and potentially streak ending match with the undertaker. This then frees up for a HBK vs. HHH match and Cena to go against the animal Batsita
This would then leave him with two paths of destiny – either feud with his mentor, or try to end the streak in his first mania match
All this will be reveled on Sunday at the Royal Rumble!
