PREVIEWING THE WEC 48: ALDO VS. FABER PAY-PER-VIEW CARD

WEC Bantamweight Division Fight

Antonio Banuelos (17-5-0) vs. Scott Jorgensen (9-3-0)

Antonio Banuelos has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Mike Lindquist, Ed Tomaselli, James Cottrell, Cole Escovedo, Mike French, Justin Robbins, Scott Jorgensen and Kenji Osawa, while suffering defeats to Jeff Bedard, Eddie Wineland, Charlie Valencia and Manny Tapia. Outside of one fight in the Palace Fighting Championships promotion, Antonio Banuelos has competed in the WEC for the last four years of his MMA career. Antonio Banuelos also competed in the Rumble On The Rock promotion, defeating both Jim Kikuchi and Yobie Song. Early in his MMA career, Antonio Banuelos competed in the International Fighting Championships promotion, defeating Daniel Garlets and Brian Peterson. Antonio Banuelos already holds a victory over WEC 48 opponent Scott Jorgensen, which was achieved at WEC 41 in mid-2009. Antonio Banuelos will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Scott Jorgensen has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Kenji Osawa, Frank Gomez, Noah Thomas, Takeya Mizugaki and Chad George, while suffering defeats to Damacio Page and Antonio Banuelos. Scott Jorgensen also fought in the Elite XC promotion, defeating Chris David by unanimous decision in July 2007. It has been a little over a month since Scott Jorgensen last had an MMA fight, so conditioning could become a factor in the fight. Despite being a native Alaskan, Scott Jorgensen has only fought in his home state one time, defeating Mike Morris at the Alaska Fighting Championship 24. WEC Lightweight Division Fight

Anthony Njokuani (12-2-0) vs. Shane Roller (7-2-0)

Anthony Njokuani has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Bart Palaszewski, Mushin Corbbrey and Chris Horodecki, while suffering a lone defeat to Benson Henderson. Anthony Njokuani also went undefeated in the Ultimate Texas Showdown promotion, defeating Devin Miller, Ira Boyd and Steven Bratland. Anthony Njokuani started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a seven fight undefeated streak that had lasted nearly four years. Prior to entering the WEC in January 2009, Anthony Njokuani had fought WEC veteran Donald Cerrone at a Ring Of Fire event. Anthony Njokuani also competed in the Art Of War promotion, defeating Kenneth Rosfort and Keyon Mike Jackson. Anthony Njokuani will be entering this fight riding a three fight winning streak, which has currently lasted over a year. Anthony Njokuani will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Shane Roller has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Todd Moore, Mike Budnik, Marcus Hicks and Danny Castillo, while suffering a lone defeat to Benson Henderson. Shane Roller has only been competing in professional MMA for thirty one months, with twenty of those months being in the WEC. Shane Roller also competed in the Extreme Fighting League, defeating Yoshihiro Kitaoka by TKO in March 2008. Of his nine professional MMA fights, Shane Roller has only seen one go to a decision, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. In two of his last three fights in the WEC, Shane Roller has fought the current WEC Lightweight Champion in Benson Henderson and a former top contender to the WEC Lightweight Title in Marcus Hicks. WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Mike Brown (23-5-0) vs. Manny “Pitbull” Gamburyan (10-4-0)

Mike Brown is the former WEC Featherweight Champion, who defeated Urijah Faber at WEC 36 to win the championship. Mike Brown has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Jeff Curran, Urijah Faber and Anthony Morrison, while suffering a lone defeat to Jose Aldo. Prior to entering the WEC in mid-2008, Mike Brown had fought top MMA fighters like Hermes Franca, Mark Hominick, Genki Sudo, Joe Lauzon and Yves Edwards. Mike Brown also fought once in the UFC, suffering a defeat to the aforementioned Genki Sudo at UFC 47 in April 2004. Mike Brown is also a veteran of the Absolute Fighting Championships promotion, defeating Leigh Remedios, Renato Tavares, Dustin Neace and Jason Bryant. The loss to Jose Aldo at WEC 44 snapped a ten fight winning streak for Mike Brown, which lasted well over two years. Mike Brown will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with thirteen victories coming by way of submission. Manny Gamburyan is currently undefeated in WEC competition, defeating both John Franchi and Leonard Garcia. Manny Gamburyan was also a contestant on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5, which was eventually won by Nate Diaz. Manny Gamburyan also had a run in the UFC, defeating Nate Mohr and Jeff Cox, while suffering defeats to Nate Diaz, Robert Emerson and Thiago Tavares. Manny Gamburyan is also the cousin of UFC veteran Karo Parisyan, who was once the top contender to the UFC Welterweight Title. Prior to entering the WEC in 2009, Manny Gamburyan had already fought top MMA fighters Sean Sherk, Jorge Santiago and Sean Sherk. Manny Gamburyan also competed in the Kage Kombat promotion, Manny Gamburyan defeated Danny Henderson, Timothy Morris and Darren Bryant. Manny Gamburyan will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which has lasted just under a year. Manny Gamburyan will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission.

WEC Lightweight Title Fight

Ben “Smooth” Henderson (11-1-0) (Champion) vs. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (11-2-0)

Ben Henderson is the current WEC Lightweight Champion, as he defeated Jamie Varner at WEC 46 in January 2010 to win the title. Ben Henderson is currently undefeated in WEC competition, defeating Anthony Njokuani, Shane Roller, Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner. Ben Henderson is also a veteran of the Maximum Fighting Championships promotion, where he defeated Mike Maestas and Ricardo Tirloni. The lone loss in the MMA career of Ben Henderson came to Elite XC veteran Chad Klingensmith, which happened at a Ring Of Fire event. Ben Henderson is currently riding a ten fight winning streak, which has currently lasted well over three years. Ben Henderson also competed in the Victory Fighting Championships promotion, defeating Allen Williams and Bryan Corley. Of his twelve professional MMA fights, only two have gone to a decision for Ben Henderson, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Ben Henderson will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with seven victories coming by way of submission. Donald Cerrone has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Danny Castillo, Rob McCullough, James Krause and Ed Ratcliff, while suffering defeats to Jamie Varner and Ben Henderson. Donald Cerrone is also a veteran of the Ring Of Fire promotion, where he defeated Nate Mohr, Craig Tennant, Jesse Brock, Ryan Roberts and Anthony Njokuani. Donald Cerrone once fought overseas in the Greatest Common Multiple promotion, defeating Yasunori Kanehara by submission. Donald Cerrone started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a nine fight undefeated streak that had lasted nearly three years. Donald Cerrone has already challenged twice for the WEC Lightweight Title, suffering a defeat to Ben Henderson at WEC 43 and suffering a defeat to Jamie Varner at WEC 38. Donald Cerrone also made his WEC debut in auspicious fashion, fighting Kenneth Alexander to a no contest at WEC 30. Donald Cerrone will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with ten victories coming by way of submission.

WEC Featherweight Title Fight

Jose “Junior” Also (16-1-0) (Champion) vs. “The California Kid” Urijah Faber (23-3-0)

Jose Aldo is the current WEC Featherweight Champion, as he defeated Mike Brown at WEC 44 in November 2009 to win the title. Jose Aldo is currently undefeated in WEC competition, defeating Alexandre Franca Nogueira, Jonathan Brookins, Rolando Perez, Chris Mickles, Cub Swanson and Mike Brown. Prior to competing against Alexandre Franca Nogueira at WEC 34 in June 2008, Jose Aldo had never competed in an MMA fight in North America. Jose Aldo also went undefeated in the Shooto promotion, defeating both Hudson Rocha and Luiz De Paula. Jose Aldo started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a seven fight undefeated streak that had lasted well over a year. The lone loss in the MMA career of Jose Aldo came to Luciano Azevedo at the Jungle Fight 5 event in 2005. Jose Aldo will be riding a nine fight winning streak into this fight, which has currently lasted over three years. Jose Aldo will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eleven victories coming by knockout. Urijah Faber is a former WEC Featherweight Champion and has had a successful run in the promotion, defeating Cole Escovedo, Joe Pearson, Dominick Cruz, Chance Farrar, Jeff Curran, Jens Pulver and Raphael Assuncao, while suffering two defeats to Mike Brown. Besides the two losses suffered to Mike Brown, the only other defeat suffered by Urijah Faber in his MMA career came to UFC veteran Tyson Griffin at a Gladiator Challenge event. Urijah Faber is also a veteran of the Gladiator Challenge promotion, where he defeated Jay Valencia, George Adkins, David Velasquez, Del Hawkins, David Granados, Charles Bennett and Naoya Uematsu, while suffering a lone defeat to the aforementioned Tyson Griffin. Urijah Faber also went undefeated in the King Of The Cage promotion, defeating Rami Boukai, Eben Kaneshiro, Hiroyuki Abe, Shawn Bias and Charlie Valencia. Urijah Faber will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with twelve victories coming by way of submission.
