Its that time of years again, because UFC Undisputed 2010 is nearing its release date and the demo has hit the download market on both the X-Box 360 and Playstation 3. On Thursday Night April 28th, the UFC Undisputed Community (the official website of UFC Undisputed 2010) released the demo early to all of its members, which I am officially one of them.
Unlike last years demo, which featured only two UFC fighters in former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell and current top contender to the same title in Mauricio Rua. This years demo features current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson and top contender to the UFC Light Heavyweight Title in Mauricio Rua.
This years demo also has two different game modes to play under, the first is the returning exhibition mode from last years demo and game. The other game mode in this years demo in the four man tournament mode, which can only be played offline via local X-Box play. When the full game is purchased, the tournament mode can feature up to sixteen fighters from the UFC.
The opening video of the demo is narrated by UFC color commentator Mike Goldberg, who goes over some of the changes to this years game. This years game will feature a lot of changes from last years game and I’ll discuss a few, but will save the majority of them for my full on game review in May. The three things I’ll talk about in this column will be the fight commentary, game play and submission system.
The UFC commentary team of Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg return for this years game and the commentary is much improved. For example, when I fought in the tournament mode, Joe Rogan discusses how I should finish the fight quickly to save energy for the finals. Also, during submission attempts, both commentators discuss the technical aspects of escaping the particular submission.
The game play has changed substantially to from the first entry of the series, as the pace of the game has picked up to a much more frantically centered fight world. While last years game set the standard for MMA fighting in games, this years game picked up the pace and seems more like EA Sports Fight Night Round 4 than last years game.
Another big change for this years game will be tapping out your foes with submissions, which was done via button mashing last year. This year, when a submission is attempted, instead of using button mashing, you have to quickly rotate the right joystick until the submission is applied or if you’re the one trapped in the submission, using it to escape the maneuver.
This years edition of everybody’s favorite UFC video game, UFC Undisputed 2010 will be available on May 25th, 2010 on the X-Box 360, Sony PSP and Playstation 3.
You can get the game for the X-Box 360 and Playstation 3 systems at the PWInsider Store for only $59.99 or on the Sony PSP for only $39.99!
