PREVIEWING THE SHINE FIGHTS III: WORLDS COLLIDE PRELIMINARY CARD

By David Tees on 5/11/2010 11:10 AM
Shine Fights Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Paulo “Tuba” De Souza (7-3-0) vs. Roger Carroll (8-2-0)

Paulo De Souza will not only be making his Shine Fights debut in this fight, but his North American MMA debut as well. Paulo De Souza is a veteran of both the Storm Samurai and The Glory promotions, where he defeated Eduardo Cameleao (twice), while suffering defeats to Eduardo Rolha and Fernando Silva. Paulo De Souza will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which has lasted nearly ten months. Paulo De Souza will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with three victories coming by knockout. Roger Carroll will also be making his Shine Fights debut in this fight, but he is a veteran of the Circle Of Fury promotion. While in Circle Of Fury, Roger Carroll had defeated William Del Sapp and suffered a defeat to Kyle Baker. Roger Carroll also holds a victory over Strikeforce veteran Tim Stout, which occurred at a Clash Of The Kings event in October 2009. Roger Carroll will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with all of his victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Paulo De Souza

Shine Fights Lightweight Division Fight

Zac George (19-3-0) vs. Mario Stapel (13-11-0)

Zac George will be making his Shine Fights debut in this fight, but he is a veteran of the Masters Of The Cage promotion. While in Masters Of The Cage, Zac George defeated Roman Bugaj, Daniel Acosta and Adam Arredondo. Zac George will be riding the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which has currently lasted nearly two years. Zac George is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with sixteen victories coming by knockout and submission. Mario Stapel is currently undefeated in Shine Fights, with a victory over Harris Sarmiento at Shine Fights: Genesis in May 2009. Mario Stapel has also competed against UFC veteran Duane Ludwig at a Ring Of Fire event in September 2007. It has been over a year since Mario Stapel last had an MMA fight, so cage rust can become a factor in the fight. Mario Stapel will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with seven victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Zac George

Shine Fights Lightweight Division Fight

Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett (22-16-2) vs. Luiz “The Joker” Azeredo (12-8-0)

Charles Bennett will be making his Shine Fights debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the King Of The Cage promotion. While in King Of The Cage, Charles Bennett defeated Shad Smith, William Sriyapai, Victor Hernandez, Theo McDonald, Gabe Rivas, Adam Bourke, Robert Martz, Dan Loman, Donnie Martinez and Eric Moon, while suffering defeats to Duane Ludwig, Takumi Nakayama, Dave Hisquierdo, Forrest Petz, Jeff Curran, Buddy Clinton, Anthony McDavitt and Bobby Green. Charles Bennett also competed in the Elite XC promotion, defeating KJ Noons and suffering a defeat to Victor Valenzuela. Charles Bennett will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with fourteen victories coming by knockout. Luiz Azeredo will be making his Shine Fights debut in this fight, but he is a veteran of the PRIDE promotion. While in PRIDE, Luiz Azeredo had defeated both Luiz Firmino and Naoyuki Kotani, while suffering defeats to Takanori Gomi and Joachim Hansen. Despite competing in professional MMA for nearly thirteen years, this fight will mark the North American MMA debut of Luiz Azeredo. Luiz Azeredo will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with five victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Charles Bennett
